Welcome to The Empty Chair a podcast from PEN South Africa. These new seasons are called “A Transatlantic Conversation” and feature novelists, poets, theatre makers, artists, musicians, activists, journalists, legal scholars, academics and historians based in South Africa and the United States of America. The podcast explores issues of social justice, freedom of expression, moments of solidarity, difference, difficult pasts, uncertain presents, and possible futures. Each of our episodes is dedicated to an imprisoned writer who has been harassed, detained, and sometimes tortured by the state.
