My mother passed unexpectedly in 2016. In A Woman Called Mother, I share the stories and scenes I collected from our time together, and also the stories and scenes I’ve been collecting from my present perspective since becoming a mother myself.
My mother was brilliant and hysterically funny. She also suffered a lot. My whole life I've chronicled my mother's mental health crises. At first, writing was my way of coping, then it was my way of sharing our unique story, but now that she's passed, I hope these stories can also illustrate how screwed up our mental health care system is.
