It’s the 40th anniversary of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. Mary Lewis has been volunteering since the beginning. She was involved in forming one of the first committees to raise money to open Glasgow’s Hospice.
Mary shared some of her memories including the official opening by the Prince and Princess of Wales with Dear Green Place. You can find Mary in the Hospice’s shop on Thursday mornings.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is one of the partner charities in a brand new shopping experience for Scotland. The Charity Supermkt is a pop up shop at Glasgow’s Fort out of town shopping centre where you can get a new wardrobe and support a number of organisations. Dear Green Place popped along to meet Glasgow’s Hospice new retail ambassador Victoria Lee to get some guidance on how to shop on sustainably on a budget. Fifty thousand people took part in Glasgow’s Pride Mardi Gla on July 15th and The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice was there in the parade. CEO Rhona Baillie said it was important to take part to make the point that Glasgow’s Hospice was open to everyone. Dear Green Place kept an eye on the preparations up to Saturday’s parade. Hospice chef Stuart McKeown and his alter ego Caron Tyne in a magnificent dress led the team..

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice has an impressive display of art around the building, much of this created by people who have an association with Glasgow’s Hospice. Susan Brolly attends the Living Well Hub and with the encouragement and support from the art team has been learning the skills to illustrate one of her poems and is now fulfilling a long ambition to publish her own book. Dear Green Place also has a bit of a chat with Chef Stuart McKeown who is helping some of the team to dress creatively for Glasgow’s Pride Parade.

If you are a regular listener to Dear Green Place you’ll know that dogs are welcome visitors at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, they can stay with their owners in the inpatient unit. Therapy pets also call in to the Living Well Hub and then there are the working dogs. In this week’s episode we meet Sandra Bell who brings her companion dog Bumble to Glasgow’s Hospice. We find out how this relationship with her canine partner works.

The gardens at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice are glorious right now. Perfect for a stroll or for sitting a while. In this week’s Dear Green Place we hear about the plans for a market garden - and a bit more besides! At the moment it’s a bit of wasteland kindly gifted to Glasgow’s Hospice by Glasgow City Council. Clare Masteron the Hospice’s Business Development Manager outlines the vision of what this could become - once the site is cleared.

There are 800 volunteers involved in all aspects of life at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. They are vital for the smooth running of Glasgow’s Hospice. Throughout this series Dear Green Place has been talking to many of the people who give some of their time, be it in the building, the community shops or at events. To mark the end of Volunteering Week in this episode we hear from Emily Carr - the Volunteer Services Manager as well as some of the volunteers in the busy Bargacree cafe and in the gardens. We also discover more about corporate volunteering - ‘out of the office today’ and helping out.
