The impact of walking 500 miles, especially, El Camino de Santiago de Compostela, is life-changing. How do I bring what I experienced while walking El Camino into my everyday life experience? After listening to fellow pilgrims' stories and lessons about their experience while walking the Camino, in this episode I share my own: what I gained, what I learned, and what ongoing transformation I experience because of it and get to tend to in my life as a contribution to others. I am left with beauty and awe after reviewing my 46 days of travel. What a gift to be able to share it with you in this episode.

Finn Vergalen is just 26 years old and has spent time walking El Camino, not to think about the past, or figure out the future, but from what he discovered -- to be present in the moment. In this episode he talks about having the things that he thought he wanted, then taking the risk to leave what he had become accustomed to but knew was not what his life was about. He also shares how he tries to implement the ways of the Camino into his everyday life. From his journey, Finn has gone beyond “finding his purpose”, and instead has found clarity about the importance of self-perception, discipline, and gratitude. Listen to him share how having walking the Camino is helping him walk into a new stage of his life.

He explains transformations, what they are, and how they work for us in life. Listen as Antonio talks about his experience looking for areas that live him and how belief and expression drive the processes of change. The most important message, however, is to get out of the box, and in this episode, he tells you exactly how to do that.

From an injury to epiphany. Dustin is an Alaskan Native, German military officer. He studied in Germany and has lived there so long that I've dubbed him my favorite “Germanized-American”. From "security pins" (safety pins) to "mosquito screen" (regular screen in a window), he has his own vocabulary that I love highlighting. Riddled with the effects of COVID-19 for 6 months straight, Dustin was unable to live the life he had once known or wanted. Listen to how he overcomes his physical and mental obstacles to make it to the Camino and experience transformation while on The Way.

One of the best things about travel is the connections made with other people. And the best way to be at the center of it all is to work in hospitality. Elise and Leo are the proprietors of Villa Harriet, a hotel with a bed-and-breakfast feel, in Uhart-Cize, France. In this episode, we sit down and talk about their joint venture and its role in the community. With a combination of expertise in guest services and cuisine, the couple has been able to service many travelers who embark on El Camino. A lot of people told them they shouldn’t do it, here they talk about the lessons they’ve learned and how they complement each other as the visionary and the executioner.

Not everyone is blessed to grow up with knowledge of the beauty of travel. Sometimes it takes a little time and a lot of growth, but that’s only the beginning of the story for Janice Crowley. Janice served 27 years in the Air Force and during those years traveling abroad was not exactly at the forefront of her mind. Today she shares with us how it’s never too late to go do something. Janice shares her stories from Oktoberfest in Germany, the “Peepee Boy” in Brussels, horse burgers in Lithuania, and many more memories. We also hear about her picture books and how documenting the moment through pictures and journaling ensures that she remembers her point of view of the places she’s been. As Janice’s career develops, so does her desire to travel and awareness of the place that she occupies when traveling (even if she couldn’t point it out on the map). In this episode, Janice emphasizes the importance of sharing the value and beauty of travel.

Good news: Boredom does not exist. At least not to this episode's guest: filmmaker and artist Jayme Aronson. She explains that boredom is a guise for something more cyclical, but she also talks about how she broke that cycle for herself. Living her life as a vacation relies heavily on consciousness. Conscious thought and intention, living without a guilty conscience by forgiving yourself, and the consciousness of accepting the shifts in our life. Jayme's freedom in traveling for her job comes with rejecting the “hustle and grind” and finding time to travel on her bike. Enjoy this episode as Jayme gives us insight into how consciousness and intentionality are keys to finding enjoyment in life and living life as a vacation.

When it comes to living his life like a vacation, Luke is like a kid in a candy store, only the store is as vast as he wants it to be and he can try whatever he pleases. In this episode, we sit down in Mexico City for a talk with Luke, a solo traveler from Brisbane, Australia, who found that travel allows him to be his truest self. Listen as Luke recalls one of his trips - how that planned trip to the States became a small tour of Europe. In this episode 23, "Working by the Seas", Anthony Sulchia, a photographer in Venice, shares with us just a little bit about the joys and some challenges in working by the sea in Venice. I met Anthony while in Venice and got a chance to enjoy a fantastic gondola ride through the city because of him, a tour of Venice (some parts) and to the Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) in the early morning 6:30am sunrise while listening to the morning tolling bells. The square was empty, waiting to be filled with residence and tourists - mostly tourists. Anthony and I record our conversation while sitting outside of a cafe that is his go-to.
What a way to appreciate this city on water!

Season 2 "Stories of the Seas" starts now: first episode is about couples cruising. On this 17 day journey on Viking Cruiselines, your host, Antonio Goodwin, travels from Venice to Athens to Istanbul and stopping at ports in between. During this trip, he meets a variety of couples. This episode talks with Neal and Lisa and Tom and Karen. These two couples were traveling together, with several more trips to Europe planned for this year. Turns out that Lisa and Tom are brother and sister. They happen to sit down at a neighboring table at the restaurant where Antonio was recording another conversation for the podcast. It's been an amazing journey all over the world with the guests we chatted with for Season 1. We've hiked all over North Carolina's state parks to RVed across the USA 4 times, even hitchhiked in Ireland for 6 months. We had family trips -- it seems quite a few trips to Italy -- and adventures in serendipity. We've chatted about serendipity superpowers -- who do you tend to meet or what types of events tend to happen when you're travelling? People loved hearing about couple's travel and especially from our guests John and Ocea Meddling with their adventures. We lived in Honduras, got arrested in Greece, and got a chance to relax, re-set, and recharge through travel. Much thanks to our season 1 guests: Catrina Murphy (ep. 2), John and Ocea Meddling (ep. 3), Christopher and Jonathan Murphy (ep. 4), Martin Miguel (ep. 5), Tamara Henderson (ep. 7), Adrienne Streater (eps. 8 and 9), Janet and Jada Young (eps. 10 and 11), Jen Olson (eps. 12 and 13), Andria Alefhi (eps. 14 and 15), Darren Reed (eps. 16 and 17), Riccardo Frisiani, Pearce Quinn, Jonathan Murphy, Gavin Butler, Ryan Kim, Thao Nguyen, Pascal Paul (ep. 18), and Andre Littlejohn (ep. 19). Do you know anyone who struggles with "relaxing?" I often wonder what people have in mind when they say, "Relax." It can be euphemism for "Calm down," or "take the load off." Often, my family and friends think I should relax because they think I'm always working. They may be right. My life, however, is designed with breaks and trips and fun work. So, my life is a vacation....and this talk with Andre LIttlejohn opened up another dimension to what relaxing can mean for me: restoration.
Andre Littlejohn is a musician, music producer, writer, and traveler. He loves traveling as a means to get away, escape from the regularities of everyday life and a way to be inspired. But where he inspired me to see something different about relaxing is in his definition. For him relaxing is a way to rest, re-set, and recharge.

"Traveling just opens up the universe." Ocea Meddling states this as we wrap up the episode where she and husband John Meddling talk about serendipitous meetings with people who's lives are inevitably altered for the better because of this chance meeting. I share how strangers tend to open up their homes and invite me to stay with them. I guess that's some hidden superpower that I didn't know I had. But it keeps showing up as it has for all my adult life.
What's your superpower related to serendipity? Who do you find yourself meeting? What impact and conversations are you having that leave people more in tact, (re)ignited and inspired, or simply just better off because they've met you?

Martin Miguel has been running since 2008. It wasn't his passion for running that got him started: it was a hater. A co-worker dubbed him "lazy" for not wanting to walk up the office stairs to the 3rd floor, and Martin wanted to show her how wrong she was. The opportunity showed up in a flyer being passed out about marathon training and raising funds for AIDS Project LA through running the Los Angeles Marathon. He took them up on it and has been running ever since! See Martin at some of his races on his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/mardin323.
Listen to how Martin expresses and experiences freedom and passion through travel as an avid marathoner.

I take a walk down memory lane with my nephews Christopher and Jonathan about the 4-country European trip I took them on the summer of 2017, just before they started back to school. It's an easy going conversation that shows the passion and freedom expressed and experienced on the trip as a family and during this recording while we reminisced. We visited Madrid, Berlin, Rome, and Paris.
Christopher is a junior textile engineering major at North Carolina State University. Jonathan is a freshmen, soon to be junior next fall, in the Kenan-Flagler Business School of University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.
