The Beer Nomad Podcast: Recent Episodes

Noah Patrick Mulgrew

My name is Noah; I travel around the nation seeking pints to enjoy and stories to listen to. I talk with brewers, tap room managers and beer enthusiast about beer, life and everything in between. With over 7,000 microbreweries in the United States alone, there's no shortage of fascinating tales to tell, people to meet, places to visit and pints to enjoy. Let's hit the road!

Two years ago today The Beer Nomad conducted its first interview.

To celebrate, we bring back the conversation that started it all, in the oldest barn in Iowa.

The front of my van says now as it did then that “every beer has a story to tell”

This was true and still is now.

Cheers!

(The Beer Nomad will be back to regularly scheduled episodes Thursday, May 9th)

What is it REALLY like living full-time in a beer van? How do you deal with loneliness on the road? Is it possible to balance a love for beer and basic productivity?

In the new series "Van Life Diaries", I get personal. No edits. Just me, my dog and a microphone.

Each month I’ll discuss my experiences on the road, behind the scenes stories and hopes for future episodes and adventures. I’ll also answer listener questions over a beer.

Sit back relax, and let’s talk.

Now, I can confidently say, Every Beer Does have a Story.

Today we talk with Zach of Knox Brew Hub; effectively the Beer Central Station of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Not only a place to sample local craft beer, KBH is also an avid promoter of the city of Knoxville, the brews it produces and the people that make it such a special place to be.

You enter a stranger and leave a friend holding a hand drawn map of the breweries of Knoxville and a belly full of carefully selected craft beer.

Knox Brew Hub is nothing less than a love letter to the town it resides in.
*Where: Knoxville, Tennessee

What: Guided brewery tours, beer tastings, local brews to-go and a comfortable space for conversation.

Thoughts: KBH quickly became one of my favorite spots in the nation. It aligns perfectly with what I'm attempting to convey with this podcast.*

Luckily, we have help:

Today we talk with Evan Rosenberg of Beer City Brewery Tours about the mind-bending beer scene in Asheville, North Carolina.

Although the winding streets and sloped boulevards are fun to explore on your own, having a knowledgable local point you in the right direction can help you better soak in the wonders of beer city.

We learn about Asheville, its people and activities over a pint with Evan.

Today we pair beer with Wakeboarding.

This intense water sport cost me hurt ribs, pulled muscles and a bruised ego before I could stand up properly and enjoy the view.

Consequently, pairing a beer style with such a demanding activity took thought and time.

Looking back, perhaps the reason wakeboarding was so difficult for me is that I was trying too hard; I resisted the waves beneath me.

I refused to let go.

Sit back, crack open a beer and let the waves carry you forward.

*** Choose which beer you would choose and drink along to the podcast:

American Pale Ale

Shandy

We start with five contenders:

Imperial Stout
Double IPA
Barrel Aged Beer
American Pale Ale
