Carpediemology Class: Recent Episodes

Sisse Runge

Carpediemology is a new subject of study where we explore how mothers can truly seize every day. We come at this from all angles which means that we talk about anything from the science of happiness to philosophy and psychology. We don’t shy away from anecdotal evidence and practical strategies either. We talk about everything from stress and survival mode to parenting advice and how to get closer to creating your dream life. All in the service of your future happiness.

We all have finite cognitive resources - which is just a fancy term for saying that we only have the energy to make a certain number of decisions and once they are made, we get exhausted and overwhelmed if we have to make more decisions.

This is one of the reasons it is so important that we get really good at making the right decisions. We look at how the ideal of the perfect mother (which is an illusion!) informs our ideas about the decisions we must make and we talk about how we can break free of these expectations. This episode also covers envy and jealousy  (and yes there is a difference between them) and how they can each help us make better decisions in the future.

In today's episode it's all about Carpe Diem as a lifestyle philosophy and about how to become the hero of your own story. Because you have to be the main character in your own life. Even when you have children.

You'll also learn what Hamlet's "to be or not to be" and Descartes' "I think, therefore I am" can teach us about living a carpe diem life!
