Jamie Massey

We share one woman's pregnancy journey over 40, birth and postpartum every Monday. We laugh, cry, share a little TMI and openly talk about the ones we lost. Our mission is to help women trying to conceive believe pregnancy is possible after 40. We also celebrate and support women who are pregnant through all four trimesters and beyond. Not only is pregnancy is possible over 40, it can also be amazing! It's not too late, and we are not too old!

It's just your podcast host Jamie Massey talking to one woman about her experience and her opinions with her pregnancy over 40. While we do share what doctors have told us and medical stuff, this isn't a show for medical advise.

  1. When Jeani scheduled a doctor's visit to address hot flashes, night sweats, and an elevated FSH level, she assumed she was simply following in the footsteps of her mother and sisters who had all entered early menopause. Instead, a routine ultrasound revealed a dislodged IUD, and a month later, on September 11th, a positive pregnancy test that quite literally left her weak in the knees. At 43 years old, with her oldest daughter on the cusp of high school graduation, Jeani found herself forced to completely rewrite the blueprint for her upcoming retirement years. In this episode, she dives deep into the complex, heavy emotions that followed, bravely uncovering the profound sense of shame and unworthiness she carried throughout her pregnancy as she struggled to accept a gift she felt she hadn't planned for or deserved.

Jeani pulls no punches when discussing the distinct physical and emotional differences of carrying a baby in her 40s versus her 20s. From an early fetal viability scare and a whole new level of bone-deep exhaustion to a sudden preeclampsia diagnosis at 38 weeks, her path to the delivery room required total mental endurance. She walks listeners through her intense, multi-hour induction in Sioux Falls, detailing the physical agony of a grueling hour-and-a-half push to deliver a sunny-side-up baby—and the incredible labor positioning trick from a seasoned nurse that finally brought her son safely to her chest. Looking back with a heart full of grace, Jeani shares an emotional message for other women navigating later-in-life motherhood, wishing she could tell her pregnant self to banish the embarrassment, accept the support of a baby shower, and fully celebrate the beautiful disruption of a mid-life miracle.

  1. When Melissa turned 40, she felt a deep calling to motherhood but hadn't yet met the right partner to start a family. Despite well-meaning friends suggesting she should simply "get a dog" rather than face the uphill battle of late-age fertility, Melissa chose to trust her intuition and embark on the journey as a Single Mother by Choice. What followed was a grueling three-year marathon involving eight egg retrievals and five embryo transfers—a testament to her incredible resilience and unwavering commitment to her dream.

In this episode, Melissa shares the raw, behind-the-scenes reality of navigating the "fertility industrial complex" as a solo parent and the mental fortitude required to keep going after repeated setbacks. Her story is a powerful masterclass in persistence, proving that while the path to motherhood may not look like the one you originally imagined, it is possible to defy the statistics and hold your miracle baby in your 40s. Whether you are navigating IVF solo or are deep in the trenches of multiple cycles, Melissa’s journey offers a vital dose of hope and a reminder to never settle for someone else's timeline.

BE04: We are discussing 10 ways to prepare for a transfer. I created this list based off of research, my experience of two transfers and ways that guests have shared from their stories. If you are like me, you are searching the internet on how to make this transfer successful. You might feel like the more you do, the higher the chances are of it being successful. I suggest doing what feels good to you from this list. Because you can do all of them and it work, and you can do none of them and it work.

  1. At 40 years old, Rosanne Austin was a high-stakes prosecutor facing a grim clinical diagnosis: she was told her age made a successful pregnancy nearly impossible. After a grueling and unsuccessful IVF journey that left her physically and emotionally depleted, Rosanne realized that the "mind virus" of fear and statistical doom was her biggest hurdle. In this episode, she details her radical shift from a logic-driven legal mindset to a deep trust in the mind-body connection, explaining how she navigated the transition from "checking boxes" to reclaiming her power and autonomy over her own fertility.

The conversation culminates in Rosanne’s incredible account of her spontaneous, fearless pregnancy at age 44. She shares the pillars of her Fearlessly Fertile Method, offering listeners practical advice on how to silence the noise of age-related anxiety and stop treating their bodies like "science projects." Whether you are currently in the thick of fertility treatments or are being told your "biological clock" has run out, Rosanne’s story serves as a powerful testament to the fact that your mindset is a vital tool in writing your own success story, regardless of the number on the calendar.

  1. After years of being told that her body wasn't ovulating and that natural conception was a statistical long shot, Kayla found herself navigating the overwhelming world of fertility specialists and clinical timelines. The conversation culminates in the incredible story of Kayla’s spontaneous pregnancy at age 41—a miracle that defied her previous medical history. 1. We have Selah on to share her spontaneous pregnancy at 41. You might know her for her older mom and boy mom skits on IG or as the voice of Chloe Bourgeois. She started trying to conceive in her early thirties. After three years of trying, she started to be more intentional by tracking her ovulation and temperature, but nothing happened. She went to a fertility clinic for help. They cleaned out her fallopian tubes, scraped her uterus and removed a garden of polyps on her uterus. She was never officially diagnosed, but she had an endometrioma on her uterus. Her periods were extremely painful. Then she had two IUI's, but that didn't work. With her three egg retrievals, she only got nine eggs total, so she wasn't confident. Finally, the embryo stuck with the transfer, and she had her first son at 37. At 38, she wanted to try for a sibling, but after a year of trying, she wasn't pregnant. At 39, right before Christmas, she email her clinic to let them know she was ready to have another transfer. Christmas morning she woke up only to realize her cycle was late. She found out Christmas Day she was pregnant at 39 with her second baby. Selah didn’t think it was possible to get pregnant at 41.

  1. Neesha shares her incredible transformation from receiving a "cold" post-menopausal diagnosis to becoming a mother at 44. After being told she had a 10% chance of conceiving naturally due to stage 4 endometriosis—and later experiencing a full year without a cycle—Neesha refused to let a clinical diagnosis be the end of her story. She walks us through the emotional and physical hurdles of navigating complex medical news and the pivotal decision to pursue motherhood through donor eggs, proving that the path to a family is rarely a straight line but always worth the journey.

Neesha’s story is a powerful testament to resilience and the importance of finding the right support when the medical system feels dismissive. We dive deep into the realities of life with stage 4 endometriosis, the transition into the donor egg process, and the joy of finally welcoming her daughter in Edmonton, Alberta. Whether you are currently facing a daunting fertility diagnosis or are curious about the donor egg path, Neesha’s transparency and triumph offer a roadmap of hope and a reminder that motherhood is possible even when the odds seem stacked against you.

  1. This is a special episode because it’s not just a pregnancy story. This is an overview of Barb’s “a 1,000 tiny steps” to her pregnancy. Barb was a scholarship runner at BU in the eighties and ran for Nike for several years. Barb never planned to have children. She had a pretty rough childhood, so, she wanted to end the cycle of abuse in her family. She didn’t need to be a mother, she was happy being the cool auntie. Instead, she became pregnant but lost her son, Gordy at 25-weeks. It wasn’t until afterwards that she knew she wanted to become a mother. She has been a competitive runner, teacher, coach, mom, and now she’s a CrossFit athlete. She is also a survivor of some pretty tragic things: losing two children in very different circumstances and brain cancer during her journey to her fourth child. Barb has four children, two live in heaven, and two are here with her. Join us on this special episode as she shares her IVF journey to the birth of her son at 57.
