After a long and discouraging month of ministry at my workplace —where every effort to find common ground despite our differences seemed to fall short I experienced a profound spiritual awakening. As I reflected on Matthew 4:23, which tells of Jesus teaching in synagogues, proclaiming the good news, and healing every disease and sickness, I realized that while Jesus focused on physical healing, we are called to carry forward His work of spiritual healing. This revelation renewed my commitment to the mission, reminding me that sometimes, offering a listening ear can be more powerful than delivering a message. It is in that listening that the value exchange begins.

In 2020, after George Floyd's murder, I observed activists mobilizing crowds to donate money through cash apps based on sheer charisma. I wondered why a charismatic BLM activist isn’t valued like a young tech entrepreneur.
Supply-side economics supports working with trickle-down effects. However, it lacks incentives to channel momentum into sustainable efforts, as capitalists focus solely on self-sustenance. Activists, meanwhile, recognize the need to convert this momentum but often lack a coalition to efficiently sustain the community. This podcast explains how we are leveraging the best of both worlds to achieve sustainability through The Value Exchange.

We are remixing the innovative donut model introduced by economist Kate Raworth where the surplus supports the shortfall from a legislative model to an organic self-perpetual model of sustainability. Originating from our latest acronym CEM (The Capitalist Enhancement Model) the goal is to build a sustainable economic justice model that taps into the incentives of capitalism which are innovation and sustainability so that it self-replicates this model and achieves economic justice. In other words... we encourage the capitalist to imitate business models that work, if that business model that works is centered on economic justice.

Two teenagers (13 and 17 years old) recently lost their mother to a drug overdose, and their father has checked himself into rehab. They are now under the care of their aunt and her husband. Due to the tragic circumstances, the children had to leave their home with only the clothes on their backs, as it is currently a crime scene. The aunt has space in her home for the children, and a neighbor has provided beds. However, the girls need clothing and other essentials. A VISA gift card for $300 would allow the aunt and her husband to buy clothes and personal items the girls need.

Spiritual maturity involves deeply understanding and integrating spiritual principles into our lives to promote sustainability and community well-being. This requires recognizing our shortcomings, such as actions that harm the environment or social justice, and being willing to change. Misinterpreting scripture can be a sign of spiritual immaturity; for instance, a child's misinterpretation of a parent's discipline as anger parallels how we might misunderstand Jesus expelling the merchants from the temple. Was this an act of anger, or was it righteous discipline aimed at restoring sacredness and justice? Achieving spiritual maturity involves continuous learning, applying spiritual insights to promote sustainability, collaborating to address societal issues, and maintaining humility. This maturity helps us align our actions with ethical and spiritual values, fostering a sustainable future grounded in care, compassion, and stewardship. Additionally, we will be discussing the launch of our church and the form our ministry will take to embody these principles.

In many spiritual traditions, pride is often viewed as a significant barrier to true communal harmony and spiritual growth. This idea is encapsulated in the adage "pride cometh before the fall," which serves as a cautionary reminder that those who hold themselves in excessively high regard are often at risk of a greater downfall. This excessive pride can lead to isolation and weaken the fabric of trust and respect that is essential for community cohesion. When pride influences racial identities, it can exacerbate divisions, causing individuals to retreat into their respective corners, reinforcing prejudices and obstructing meaningful dialogue. Humility, fostered through acknowledging one's own limitations and flaws, is crucial not only for spiritual development but also for bridging racial divides. It strengthens community bonds by promoting understanding and respect across different backgrounds. Without it, communities risk deepening divisions and suffering spiritual and moral decline, emphasizing the need for humility to maintain a healthy, interconnected communal environment.

“Pope-gate was the end of O’Connor as a commercial force in America. She never again troubled the charts or performed on primetime TV. But in Ireland, she inspired a generation of female artists who finally had someone to look up to – singers such as Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries and Róisín Murphy who, like O’Connor, refused to let the industry tell them what they could or could not do.
O’Connor herself never wavered in her feelings about the incident. She was proud of her actions. “A lot of people say or think that tearing up the pope’s photo derailed my career,” she wrote in her memoir. “That’s not how I feel about it. I feel that having a No 1 record derailed my career and my tearing the photo put me back on the right track… Far from the pope episode destroying my career, it set me on a path that fit me better.”

This past Monday I decided to take a break from posting on Social media. Monday turned to Tuesday, Tuesday turned to Wednesday, Wednesday turned to Thursday, and here I am it's Saturday and not only have I not had much in the way of withdrawal effects, instead quite the opposite happened, I reconnected with the world and everything slooooowed down. “A little more background on the Keep a Light in My Window track. It was from the New York Community Choir, who put out a bunch of amazing cuts around that time. Here's a quick blurb on them:
Formed in the early '70s as an offshoot of the popular, Grammy-nominated Isaac Douglas Singers, The New York Community Choir originally consisted of some one hundred members under the direction of Benny Diggs and included prominent writer Arthur Freeman. The Choir first came to national prominence in the U.S. in 1971 on a much-acclaimed recording by renowned poet Nikki Giovanni, The Truth Is On Its Way. Another offshoot of the choir, Revelation Movement (which included Diggs and Freeman) was formed to primarily do secular rather than gospel shows and morphed in 1974 into Revelation consisting of Diggs and Freeman along with Philip Ballou and Arnold McCuller. The quartet signed to RSO Records where they recorded one album. In 1977, The New York Community Choir signed with RCA Records: their self-titled debut LP included the dance hit, "Express Yourself".
Released in 1978, their follow-up set, Make Every Day Count (with a group name change to NYCC), was produced like its predecessor by RCA executive Warren Schatz, and included seven original songs along with a cover of I’ll Keep My Light in My Window, a tune originally recorded by the duo Caston & Majors for Motown (later also cut by Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye). The album boasted arrangements by Leon Pendarvis (the co-leader of the Saturday Night Live band) and featured such stellar New York session musicians as Paul Shaffer and Richard Tee on keyboards, Jeff Mironov and John Tropea on guitars, Errol Crusher Bennett on percussion, Will Lee on bass and Steve Gadd on drums.
The album s infectious title track became popular particularly in East Coast discos, and has remained a popular inspirational anthem among gospel and R&B music lovers. The original LP is making its worldwide CD debut with this release by Real Gone Music in association with Soul Music Records, and this Expanded Edition includes six-minute plus 12 single versions of Make Every Day Count and I ll Keep My Light in My Window, with liner notes by SoulMusic Records founder David Nathan and remastering at Sony s Battery Studios. Funky, soulful, spiritual!
