Paul has just told us in Romans 1:16-17 that he is really excited and not ashamed about the gospel (which means literally “good news”) of God. So, you would think that as he begins his teaching on the gospel now in the meat of the letter, it would begin with some encouraging truths. Not so much! We are now diving into the “bad news” of the book of Romans so that the “good news” of the gospel will seem that much greater!
