Jesus is both our Representative and our Example, and in the wilderness, he was victorious over temptation and he shows us how we can face it as well.
After the story of the Old Testament, God's people spent a lot of time waiting. When would God make good on His promises? When would the Messiah come? Hundreds of years after the return to the Promised Land, a man came baptizing in the wilderness, and God spoke once again.
Most Christians know that Jesus calls us to reach the world with His Message and His Way. Yet, many struggle to live out that mission in their day-to-day lives. Does the Bible help? Is there a secret?
Why is the church involved in controversy on marriage? Does it come from the Bible? Does our society share God's view on what marriage is?
Is Jesus' return imminent? Do we see the signs of the times all around us? What do we do with that? Tune in as Pastor Josh covers what Jesus has to say about the last days.
Walking up after a service to confess Jesus as Lord, raising your hand at a youth event, agreeing with your parents... many people claim the name of Christian while not knowing Jesus. What does the Bible say about being saved?
If God knows beginning from end and He's working in all things, can we really change His mind through prayer?

Israel had gone past the point of no return, and God finally exiled them from their home. However, the story of the Bible shows that there were still glimmers of hope, even in Israel's darkest day. What does the exile of Israel show us about our true Home?

The Writings of the Prophets can be some of the most confusing books of the Bible. What's with all the signs and symbols? What exactly are they pointing to? This week, Pastor Josh preached on the "Day of the Lord" and what that means for us.
As modern readers, we like our "main ideas" to be clear and concise, but Hebrew authors didn't always write that way. The Book of Jonah never states its point explicitly... instead, it uses irony to show us what it means to be the people of God. Tune in as Pastor Josh opens the book of Jonah (with some help!)
Why is God so concerned about idolatry? This week, Pastor Josh opens up the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. In it, we see that God is showing His people that He is the only God.
The history of Israel is an example of yet another downward spiral for the people of God. What happens to the people of Israel when they are repeatedly unfaithful? Will God keep His covenant? Join us for "history class" as Pastor Josh teaching through the Books of Kings
After Israel's society spiraled down through the Book of Judges, they demand a king. The first king, Saul, disobeys God and is rejected... so God chooses a king who would walk in His ways. Young David is used of God to rescue Israel, pointing to the Son of David who would rescue the world.
The Book of Judges gives a vivid picture of the corrupted nature of the human heart. God's people didn't end up being a shining light of His goodness in the promised land... instead they became even worse than the groups who were already dwelling there. How would God deal with them?
As a new generation crosses into the Promised Land, they experience God as the covenant-keeping God who fights for them. A question arises: Will they be on God's side?
The Exodus is one of the clearest instances of God's plan for His Son being foreshadowed in the OT. Tune in as Pastor Josh teaches on God our Rescuer!
The Old Testament points to Jesus... it's all foreshadowing, prophesying, and leading up to what God was going to do through His Son. The Exodus story is significant in the history of God's people, and it's not a hard jump to see how it points to Jesus.
"What you meant for evil, God meant for good." This is one of the final assertions in Scripture. How can this be? Aren't bad things... bad? Tune in as we dig into these important words from Joseph!
Many nations tell great tales of their origins... but the nation of Israel has a messy story that is, at times, embarrassing. Why does God give us these details? Join us as we see God's grace in the midst of the mess.
Why would God ask Abraham to kill his son? How can that be good or loving? Join us as Pastor Josh walks through this story, thinking about God's good plans and the sacrifice of His own Son Jesus.
As our Great Story continues, the Lord calls Abraham to leave his land and his comfort zone. God made a promise to him: he would have uncountable children and his family would become a great nation. Abraham trusted in God's words even when his wife doubted and laughed. He had faith, not only in the promise but in the God who made the promise. It was impossible for Abraham and Sarah to bear a child, yet Isaac came as the beginning of the fulfilment of God's covenant with Abraham. Tune in as we talk more about God's covenant with Abraham.
So far the Bible has shown us a lot about humanity and our shortcomings... what about our potential? In the story of the Tower of Babel, we watch as humanity tries to get to heaven the wrong way.
For many people, the flood in Genesis 7 meant the destruction of the world. However, with some careful thought we can see this passage as a new beginning which reveals a piece of our redemption story. Tune in as we dive into Noah's story and what it shows us about Jesus!
Adam and Eve could eat the fruit of almost every tree in the garden; instead, they decided to believe a lie. The devil presented to them a deceptive promise of being like God. God's image-bearers disobeyed Him and the consequences of that choice have plagued the world for all time. This story could have a tragic ending, but God had a plan... As we walk through the Nativity Story looking through the lens of inconvenience, we come to the story of Jesus' birth and all the missed expectations that came with it. Why shepherds? Why was the King born in a stable? Tune in as we think about what happens when God's plan disappoints, and how His love brings us comfort and hope through that.
What about Joseph? We like to think that the Christmas story was full of wonder and ease, but there is a lot of... boring! Join us as Pastor Josh draws out some of the boring parts of the story, which remind us that God's plan happens in the ordinary and not just the extraordinary.
While we often make the Christmas story light and happy, there was a lot of difficulty involved, especially for Mary. Join us as we look at the story of Jesus' birth in light of God's plan and inconvenience.
When we hear that a king or the queen is coming to visit, what do we usually expect? A big and bright crown, fancy clothing, and a huge entourage. That's what many people were expecting of the Messiah. But we all know how it happened. His arrival wasn't the way anyone expected: His followers weren't nobles, He wasn't surrounded by material richness, His experience wasn't smooth nor easy. Yet His birth was surrounded by many miracles and God's involvement was clear. Join us as we celebrate the first day of Advent!
The Bible is full of information about what the world looks like at the end. What do we do with that? How does it inform our Christian walk? Join us as we close our series in 2 Peter talking about the last days.
As we near the end of Peter's second letter, he prophesies something that we see coming to pass right before our eyes. Peter tells the church that as we get closer to the return of Jesus, scoffers will come who reject God's miraculous creation and divine judgment. If we want to be a people who share the love of Jesus, a process is helpful in making that happen. Last week, Pastor Josh spoke about "Learning His Way," teaching how we become people of the Way of Jesus by learning from His life, His Word, and His Spirit. This week, we're looking at how we can bear fruit from that knowledge.
A mission statement without a plan usually goes the way of the New Year's Resolution. At LWAC, we've created a process through which we can become a community of people sharing the love of Jesus. Peter, writing nearly 2000 years ago, said the end was near. What does that mean for us? If we believe that's true, what kind of lives do we live? Join us as Pastor Josh explores how we love people as the end approaches.
Last week we spoke about Triumph Through Suffering, a life characterized by going down into suffering but knowing that we'll be raised in victory. This week's passage brings up the reality we can't triumph if there's no battle and what're the weapons of our warfare!
