In this podcast, I pretend like I know what I'm doing, and talk about my cut of chapter 8 of The Third Chimpanzee. Epiiiiic
“Hi, I am Hunter Waddell and today I will be talking to you about a monster from native American and Canadian mythology, The Wendigo.”
“The Wendigo from native American mythology is depicted as a monstrous malicious spirit, who has possessed a human being and turned them into a wendigo. The Wendigo’s influence is said to invoke acts of murder, overwhelming greed, and cannibalism.”
“Most descriptions of a Wendigo describe it as taking the form of a human but transforming into a zombie-like, monstrosity with antlers, hooves, and other physical traits drawn from elk or deer. The Wendigo was also often associated with winter, and the cold.”
“Some tales depict the Wendigo as just a supernatural or evil being but in other accounts, it has been depicted as living alongside the native people and when running out of food secretly hunting, killing, and feasting upon the native people. Some stories say villages would hire “Wendigo Hunters” or strong fighters that would track down and kill the wendigo(s).”
“I chose the wendigo for this podcast as it’s always been just a really cool concept and the illustrations I’ve seen of it depict it as just a really cool supernatural being that dwells in the cold winter forests of North America. So basically I have no other explanation other than it looks cool, it is cool, and it was the first thing that came to mind.”
“Goodbye now my children….”
