Pastor Neil Todman hosts a one-off evening dealing with the subject of depression. He is joined by doctor Lara Jenner, who answers some medical questions about depression. After that Neil opens up Psalm 88- probably the bleakest of the 150 Psalms- and asks the question, "Why is a Psalm that ends with the words, "Darkness is my closest friend" in the Bible at all?"

The truth is not popular with the world. Even more mature Christians find it hard to graciously listen to, and accept, the truth.
Andrew takes us through the passage and shows us that accepting the objective and absolute truth of Jesus' message can set us free.

Do you believe you are evil?
Jesus says all humans (the world) are evil - none of us live up to the perfection of God.
In this passage we see how his own brothers try to minimise Jesus, missing the point of his time of earth, and the truth of his message. Essentially they are labelling him, and trying to contain him within a 'box'.
We label ourselves in myriad ways, trying to place ourselves and everyone else into easily definable boxes. The categories we use give the illusion of protecting us from the confusions and anxieties we face constantly. What boxes and labels do you use? What happens when those bounds you impose fail to provide you with solace and hope?
Simon takes us through the passage, and shows how we can find freedom if we follow Jesus. We can step out from the limited space within those boxes. Simon puts forward the case that admitting we are evil opens us up to a peace that is almost unimaginable to us.

Where does your confidence come from? Is it from your achievements, your position based on social standing or wealth, your intelligence or appearance, or any of the other worldly options?
John teaches that these can only provide temporary confidence, which leads to sinful attiudes, including arrogance. He teaches that faith in Jesus is the only place where true, lasting confidence comes from.

Do we treat our spiritual life like a pick and mix, choosing what applies to us from the increasingly varied and shiny options that the world and culture try to sell us?

John Todman talks about growing up in India in the 1940s and 1950s; coming to faith in Christ; working in a trans-Atlantic oil company as an instrumentation engineer; dealing with cancer in the family; and facing death. Who, or what, do you turn to when you are in need?
In this passage we hear about two miracles: feeding 5000 (at least) with what appears to be only enough food for a small family; and Jesus walking on water and calming the storm.

God has authority over all of creation and He has given authority to mankind since the creation of the world so that mankind can use their God given authority to glorify Him. Has mankind used their God given authority for God's glory or have they misused it? The right use of authority leads to blessing and the misuse of authority leads to exile. In the Bible we see God's people misusing the authority that God has given them only to be sent into exile. So what does God's authority and the authority given by God to mankind have to do with Jesus as the The Son of Man? Listen to the podcast to hear Simon teach about God's authority over all of creation, the God given authority to mankind and their misuse of it, and Jesus, the Son of Man, who perfectly exercised God's authority on earth as the Son of Man.

This message looks at one very bad king of Judah (Amon) and one very good king (Josiah). From these two kings we see that God’s plans cannot be obstructed and God’s word must not be overlooked. In fact it is vital we read it and have a responsive heart towards what it says.

How do we feel when we hit or when we fail to hit our own particular benchmark? We will be exploring together how these tendencies put cracks into our security and identity in Christ.

Neil begins our new autumn term series in Amos bringing us face to face with the untameable God of the Bible. He shows how God's judgement encompasses all nations for their crimes against humanity, but also how God's justice requires his people to obey him because of their special relationship with him. Neil finishes by showing how our only hope is found in the God who is both the Lion and the Lamb.
In the second of three sermons on the opening verses of Ephesians, Simon focuses on the work of the Son, and what it means for believers to be in Christ.
Bullying is a widespread problem in our society. Nearly a quarter of all children were bullied last year. Nearly 15% of adult workers were bullied too in their workplaces. This doesn't account for all the bullying in families, where children are abused and where there is domestic violence.
In this sermon Neil shows us how bullying is nothing new. This Psalm of David is about 3000 years old. But David was able to bring his complaint to God and entrust him to bring justice.
Neil also wonderfully shows how this Psalm points us to Jesus as the only Righteous One and how through him each of us can find mercy and extend that mercy to others.
