This started as a radio show that we have the privilege of doing and we are bringing it to the podcast space to reach more people. We hope that you like it!

This two part deep dive into PRIDE was so much fun to create, hearing from a teen perspective made the experience very rich, bold, spicy even! Yo! Today's episode hits different for two reasons: 1. This was the first time we conducted an interview via Zoom as we couldn't be together at the time. 2. We interviewed our Lead Teaching Artist, Shana Smith-Coleman for a different perspective on poetry and performance season through her eyes as a teacher! She dropped a lot of gems and gave us some wisdom! Shana is responsible for overseeing the poetry curriculum that we teach and has been responsible for shaping the minds and pens of hundreds of students through poetry over the last few years! Continuing our ImmortALL interview series, in this episode we talk to TWP Alumni and BME Recording Artist Rob J! We get a bit of a different perspective as his TWP journey was a little different. Rob J wasn't a poet like many of our other alumni. He took more to singing and making music and so we talk about his talent, his journey and how his time at TWP helped him hone his craft! This young man is currently giving back as a Teaching Artist with TWP, in addition to being a college graduate and a podcaster! We talk with him about his experience coming up in the ranks of TWP before it had all the bells and whistles that it does now, and how that whole experience shaped him as a leader, poet, person and performer! She is both a Teens With A Purpose and a Hampton Roads Youth Poet alumni, in addition to currently being an educator and the founder of a new non-profit called Rosa's Place! Thank you for tuning in! We are Teens With A Purpose, a non profit organization located in Norfolk, VA dedicated to creatively cultivating the next generation of leaders! We work with middle school and high school aged teens, using the arts as a catalyst for change. We engage our teens through art so that not only can they empower themselves but each other as they go on to make a difference in their communities and the world around them. Part of that engagement is an opportunity to do a 30 minute radio show on a local gospel station. We want to be able to post those episodes for posterity. This is the first of many to come.
As we are currently in the midst of our poetry/performance season entitled ImmortALL: Let Your Words Live Forever, we are conducting a series of interviews with past Teens With A Purpose and Hampton Roads Youth Poets alumni, as well as TWP coaches, teaching artists, and staff. This first interview in our series finds us sitting down with Michelle Sims, our Marketing Director about her TWP experience and the ins and outs of putting together a poetry festival from behind the scenes!
