Over the last years, the previously small world of crypto has gone increasingly mainstream. Crypto is coming to the real world.

One of the things that sets SmartFi, apart from most other crypto platforms is that it lends the proceeds from the sale of the native token, SMTF, to businesses in industries other than the blockchain. That was part of the company’s original vision. SmartFi has been all about "crypto in the real world" since the start.

This week’s guest on Tilton Talks Crypto was Rob Lamb, a US-based attorney who specializes in the law around cryptocurrencies, Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) and blockchain projects. He also sits on Utah’s Blockchain & Digital Innovation Task Force.

Crypto law is an important and interesting subject right now as state and federal government entities look to establish a framework for regulating the new industry.

A Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is constructed by rules encoded by a computer program that is often transparent, controlled by the organization’s members and not influenced by a central government. Simply put, DAOs are member-owned communities without centralized leadership.

Senator Cullimore has served in the Utah State Senate since the beginning of 2019 and sits on several influential committees, most notably that for Business and Labor, and is in the whip’s office for the Republican majority. He is an attorney by profession and has recently been involved in the amendment process for Utah’s Digital Assets bill that seeks to lay out a business-friendly regulatory environment for crypto in the state of Utah.

Who better to talk to, then, about Utah’s push to become a crypto hub in America? It was a fascinating discussion which, based on earlier episodes of Tilton Talks Crypto, went into some detail on the main topic but also covered taxation, government oversight over blockchain transactions and much more. Shouldn’t be missed by anyone interested in the future of the crypto industry in the U.S.

As a part of the ongoing “Tilton Talks Crypto” podcast series, SmartFi CEO Aaron Tilton and his co-host, the singer, TV presenter and America’s Got Talent golden buzzer winner, Joseph Allen, welcomed Dan Hemmert to the show. Dan is the Executive Director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, known as Go Utah, and is involved in the effort to make Utah a crypto hub, with a regulatory framework that encourages the industry to base itself in the state.

In his previous role as a State Senator, Hemmert introduced some of the early legislation with that in mind, a bill that exempted “blockchain technology” from regulations that apply to banks and other technologies, and it was that effort that led to him and Aaron meeting. Since then, they have become collaborators in several efforts to promote crypto in Utah and Dan is now even a SmartFi customer!
