Body insecurity in relationships is a tricky topic. But an important one.
Nowadays, I truly love my body. But that wasn’t always the case. I used to hate my body. I never felt good enough. I would compare my body constantly.
I met my husband at my heaviest weight. And he loved me (and my body), even when I didn’t. He told me that I was worthy just as I was, without needing to lose weight.
As anyone with body insecurities would know, this meant so much to me. My husband played a big role in helping me love my body. And I’ll always be so grateful to him.
Did he google “how to help my wife with body confidence”? Who knows. What matters is, that it worked. And in this episode, I'll be sharing what you can do to help your partner love their body. Or at least accept it.

Are you always trying to eat perfectly healthy?
As a dietitian, I've watched the pursuit of perfect health become an all-consuming battle for many. Myself included.
In today's episode, we dive into orthorexia nervosa, the thin line between healthy eating and an extreme fixation on so-called 'clean' eating.
We'll explore how the pursuit of eating perfectly can lead to nutritional deficiencies, social isolation, and worsen our mental health. And discuss the importance of support, understanding our relationship with food, and the journey back to enjoying life - beyond what's on our plates.
But recognising the problem is the first step to healing. So, let's get into it.

Ever wondered why you can't stop eating at night?
Can you relate to the feeling of late-evening pantry raids after a not-so-peachy day. You might eat a biscuit, then five minutes later a slice of cheese. Followed by a handful of grapes… and half a Mars bar. Then go back to the biscuits for (probably) 6 more.
…Trying to fill that hole, that gap, that needed to be fed.
If you are nodding along, thinking, "Mmm-Hmm, this is me," just know you're not alone. I’ve been there, done that, plenty of times myself.
Together, we'll uncover WHY those (unhelpful) daytime diets might set us up for evening binges and HOW a shift towards balanced, intentional eating to build healthier habits to kick emotional eating to the curb.
Say hello to a world where complex carbs, proteins, healthy fats, and fiber are your BFFs in the fight against the late-night munchies, and where you can FINALLY feel in control around food.
The second half of today's chat we peel back the layers of emotional eating - with experiences from my own journey. If you've ever found solace in a cookie (or half the packet..) we're going to break down those patterns and learn how to find comfort beyond the pantry and let go of the food-guilt (HOORAY!)

"You're constantly striving for more, you want to be thinner, you want to look better. And it's just like this toxic path that never really ends and it never gets you anywhere. I should have asked for help..."
On this week's episode I am joined by real story guest Natalia Szala. And this week's is a bit of a special one, as Nat is also my colleague and friend.
When we get together to film we'll often hash back to all of our previous dieting years, sometimes having those "holy moly, you did that too!" moments together.
And today we are sharing these all with you too!
Diving into our own battles with food, from the sneaky (and deceptive!) comfort of solo binge-eating sessions. To the quiet struggles so often hidden behind social media's "flawless" bodies.
We're peeling back the layers to let you know you'e not alone.
Nat and I dig into the whole external validation thing... Where what's oh-so often praised as 'discipline' can actually be reinforcing harmful habits.
And we shed light on the necessity of confronting the roots of disordered eating. So you can live a life without obsessing over food!

Do you find yourself eating beyond the point of fullness, leaving you feeling bloated and heavy?
I've been there. I know the feeling of needing to eat everything on your plate, or being unsure when you'll allow yourself to eat next - which often results in overeating or bingeing to the point of discomfort.
Sometimes, you'll eat more than you planned - and that's okay! If you struggle with feeling guilty when this happens, go back and revisit episode 54 here: What to do after a binge. Beating yourself up about what you've already eaten won't help - in fact, it will lead to more yo-yo dieting, food obsession and emotional eating later on.
Instead, to help you better tune into your hunger and fullness signals, and prevent overeating, I'm sharing my top evidence-based tips so you can begin to stop eating when you notice you feel full. I share my strategies for learning how to leave food on your plate if you've had enough, so you can start eating to your hunger levels and feeling good after eating.
Looking for some nutritious, balanced recipes to get you started, and help you feel satisfied after a meal, so you can reduce your risk of overeating?

I recently went on a magical family holiday to New Zealand. It was full of good food, hikes and wholesomeness.
But one night, I was scrolling through the photos of the day and I noticed myself not loving what I was seeing.
I wasn't focusing on the incredible memories.
I was focusing on the cellulite, on my body and on all my insecurities.
This isn't a new scenario for me. And it probably isn't for you.
But what I did next is what changed the game. One hour later - I was back in my holiday mood.
The New Year is the number one time of year for these feelings.
So listen to this episode - and let's start 2024 right.

I once fell into the trap of setting wildly ambitious New Year's resolutions that fizzled out before February even whispered hello. It's a familiar story, isn't it?
Contrary to popular belief, New Year’s resolutions are not just glorified ‘to do’ items for the first week of January.
The New Year can actually be a magical opportunity for small mental shifts that can bring about meaningful change.
Each year, around 69% of Aussies make at least one New Year’s Resolution but only around a quarter of us actually stick to our good intentions and achieve the results.Well, I say this year can be different.
Here’s how to set New Year’s resolutions that actually stick. If you've listened and have decided you're ready for a Booze Break in 2024 - head to My Booze Break to get started.

Try to eat clean 100% of the time? Or scroll on your phone when you are out with friends?
Let's see what habits should stick around & what ones we can leave in 2023.

As parents we want to do the best by our kids. But they don't come with a manual.
I've spoken before about how to teach kids to eat healthily, but what about even more broadly speaking. We want kids who like themselves.
So what's the secret to raising empowered, confident children who like themselves?
Kasey Edwards and her husband Dr Christopher Scanlon have written two books on EXACTLY this - Raising Girls Who Like Themselves and Bringing Up Boys Who Like Themselves.
This episode is full of practical tips, strategies and advice to teach children to adopt a power perspective and be ready to deal with life's challenges.

At just 12 years of age, Jaimee Krawitz struggled with an eating disorder and had no idea how to communicate how she was feeling to her friends and family. It's a tricky conversation for adults, let alone a child!
Jaimee is now a counsellor who has dedicated her work to transforming the dialogue around eating disorders.
Because what should you say to someone with an eating disorder? What language is helpful?
It is so important we take the time to find out, rather than saying nothing at all and adding loneliness to an already incredibly lonely time.
At the core of her mission lies the belief that language can be a powerful tool to nurture understanding, reduce stigma, and promote positive mental well-being, specifically in the context of eating disorders among young people.
Whether you're a parent, teacher, or healthcare professional, you're sure to find an abundance of practical tips to help you navigate these often challenging conversations.
I'd love you to share this episode with friends and family, widening the network of support to those living with eating disorders.
Want to know more about Jaimee's work?
Hide N Seek, is a non profit organisation dedicated to creating an open and supportive language of conversation, raising awareness, and providing essential resources to caregivers of individuals experiencing eating disorders.

Have you been wondering about weight loss drugs? Have you read stories of celebrity weight loss and caught yourself thinking is ozempic actually worth it?
Or better still...what is ozempic?
Ozempic, a medication initially concocted for blood glucose control but remarketed for weight loss due to its surprising effect. This drug, is injected weekly and works by mimicking the GLP1 hormone and suppressing your appetite.
So wait, what's the catch? Oh, there are some not-so-fun side effects...
This episode is not a place where I will be shaming anyone who is considering weight loss drugs or have tried them in the past.
But a place to remove the diet culture BS and give you the information you NEED, to be able to make informed choices about YOUR life.
The world is changing rapidly, and I think this is only the beginning of weight loss medications.
Now is the time more than ever to understand what it's all about, work on our relationships with food and get ready for whatever life throws at us.
Time to press play.

After I recorded last weeks episode, I found myself texting Jenna. I realised we had so much more to say. Because let's face it, intuitive eating and weight gain is a murky topic.
And we do not want to lose people back to diet land!
If you have no idea what I'm talking about and you haven't listened to part 1, I highly recommend starting there to get the full context - head back to episode 86.
Ever wondered how to make choices that honor your body and health without spiraling into restrictive thoughts?
Have you quit dieting, but are gaining weight?
Are you tempted to start another diet?
This episode is all about continuing the journey of being the decision-maker for your own body, making choices driven by health and not weight loss.
It's time to challenge the diet mentality and embrace a life after restriction, calorie counting and 5am boot camps... unless you LOVE 5am boot camps, then they can absolutely stay.
Let's get back to listening to your hunger, the importance of trusting your body's signals, conducting micro-experiments with food and building a sense of trust around your food choices.
So, are you knee-deep in your intuitive eating journey? Just starting out? You've ditched diets, gained some weight and are thinking of dipping back into diet land?
This episode is for you.

Have you ever wrestled with the idea of intuitive eating, only to find yourself buried under weight gain concerns and that pesky voice in your head leading you back to dieting?
Sometimes in the non-diet world, speaking about weight loss can be taboo.
Especially if people are on different stages of their own journey in rebuilding their relationships with food and their bodies.
But I can't help but often think this is where we lose people back to diet land.
This all kicked off again after I received an email from a lovely listener called Penelope - who says the age old statement 'I have tried and failed at intuitive eating, and each time returned to restrictive eating'.
Have you quit dieting but are gaining weight?
What should you do next?
Let's talk about the importance of checking in with our hunger and ways to create a healthier home environment without feeling deprived.

Ever wondered why French women don't get fat, despite their love of good food?
Well you aren't alone. There was even a whole book about it.
First published in 2004, "French Women Don't Get Fat" by Mireille Guiliano has been translated into 40 languages and sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
This book is all about the French's unique approach to eating, which combines a love for satiating full-fat meals, an appreciation for their culinary heritage, a love of cooking and an untainted enjoyment of what they eat.
Sound familiar?
Focusing on satisfying foods? Cooking at home? Enjoying your food minus the guilt?
Is it possible to enjoy food without guilt and still maintain a healthy lifestyle?
This episode is more than just an exploration of French eating habits. It's another notch in our belt against diet culture, aiming for a healthier and more joyful relationship with food.
So, are you ready to redefine your eating habits and fall in love with food all over again?
Once you've listened, you'll be inspired to start cooking at home more... so here are some FREE budget friendly recipes for you.
EDIT: No doubt 'Why French Women Don't Get Fat' is 100% a diet book. While eating satisfying foods is something I am a HUGE fan of, there certainly is a lot I don’t agree with in the book. I definitely don’t subscribe or endorse this book or pathetic diet leek soup (which tastes like watery onion nonething-ness).

I was told by my doctor that I had clinical anxiety back in 2010 and the diagnosis came as a complete shock. But now, I can see that the writing was on the wall.
For months, I had stopped wanting to socialise. When someone would text me asking to hang, I’d see it as a burden. Everything felt like a chore, I didn’t want to do anything.
But I'm happy to say, things have changed A LOT since 2010.
The anxiety I was experiencing went from out of control, to manageable, to mild and now finally has disappeared.
I knew something was finally different when instead of staring at the back of my eyelids, my brain racing like a treadmill on top speed, I fell asleep. No dread. No angst. No catastrophising. No over analysing. It was the first time in decades.
And it wasn’t a one off either, but a succession of nights. The only other time my anxiety had disappeared was during my previous pregnancy, and here, pregnant with my second it was happening again. Was it hormones? A coincidence? Was alcohol causing my anxiety?
Let's unpack my anxiety breakthroughs along my journey from diagnosis to thriving.

You often hear dieters say "I really don't eat that much. I have no idea why I can't lose weight". As a past dieter, I know how much I was very religiously sticking to my very few calories that I was allowing myself to have, eating very lightly and not getting anywhere. I would see these diets and meal plans and think 'how do people eat this much?!'
But the truth is diet culture BS has made it SO hard to even know how much you should be eating. Are you eating too much or not enough?
You know it – and I know it – you can’t live your fullest life on an empty stomach. You’re meant for great things but you can’t reach your potential or live your best life when all you think about is food.
Constantly worrying about how much you ate or whether you’re eating the ‘right’ things distracts you from all the important shit you were put on this earth to do! And we can’t have that, because the world needs what you’ve got to share.
Lucky for us, our body has delightful inbuilt systems that can give us all the answers. We just need to learn how to listen.
Want help with binge or emotional eating? I think you'll get a lot of value from my FREE 5-day course, in which I teach you strategies that helped me to skip the cravings and feel in control around food. The course will be delivered via email straight into your inbox.

Planning a wedding can be a roller coaster of emotions, and not just because of the budgeting, guest lists, and venue hunting.
Body image concerns and diet culture often sneak into the process too.
I remember the morning of my wedding so clearly. It was pouring with rain. I'd just finished getting ready for my wedding. I'd put on the veil. This is the moment I looked in the mirror for the first time.
But when I saw my reflection, I felt so deeply disappointed. Despite months of meticulous planning, exercising, and curating, I didn't see the image of perfection I had imagined.
But what did I do next?
And what can you do to enter your marriage - or whatever your next life phase is - knowing you have so much more to give this world (and your partner) than your appearance?

They say you can never have too much of a good thing.
And yes, there are a few things I believe this statement applies to: holidays, puppies and beach swims.
But two things that can definitely be taken to the extreme are healthy eating and exercising.
Don’t get me wrong – You only get one body, and it’s important to take care of it. But it is absolutely possible to go overboard with eating healthy and exercising, and you can end up doing far more harm than good.

If you haven’t heard of hypothalamic amenorrhea before, it is a condition where your period stops due to things like excessive stress, intense exercise, low body weight, or certain eating habits.

Her solution? Ditch the booze and switch up her lifestyle.
Maz went from not being able to get through a few days without a drink to 8 years without a sip of booze. It all started when she took a break from booze and to discover what a hangover free few weeks felt like. It turns out, that was the best choice.
It's not all about alcohol, though. Maz also opens up about her struggle with body image and self-esteem and how the pressures of being a household name took their toll.
How did she break free? Well... Let's find out.

Diet culture tells you that scales are a must. But there's actually no requirement for you to step on the scale. Not at all.
In reality, the act of weighing yourself might be stopping you from finding your healthiest weight.
Have you ever experienced how encountering an undesired number on the scale can send you spiraling, sapping your motivation?
Jenna was 8 years old when she was sent to her first dietitian to be put on a 'healthy eating' meal plan, aka a diet. She spent the next 20 years dieting and is now thankfully coming out the other side. Phew!
But are you ready for a reality check when recovering from dieting? Sometimes you do things that you know will help you, and sometimes there are things that you know will make you feel crap... and you do them anyway.
Last week, Jenna stepped on the scale—knowing she might not like what she saw. But she did it anyway.
Surprisingly, even though she hated the number and definitely shed some tears, something good came out of it.
We are so excited for you to listen to this story. A lightbulb moment in a life without dieting.
Let's redefine our relationship with diet culture, discover balance and joy in the process.
So, if you're ready to break up with diets, join us on this journey because change can really be as simple as a morning stroll, an extra glass of water, or a good night's sleep.
Need a little extra support to ditch the scales? In my FREE 30-day challenge I’ll teach you how to say goodbye to crappy old-school diet advice and create a healthier relationship with food.

Did you know people with ADHD are more likely to struggle with binge eating disorder?
But have you ever wondered why?
Forgotten meals, binge eating, struggling to exercise, and boredom eating – if these things sound familiar to you. Listen up!
I am so pumped to have Becca King join me for this episode.
Becca aka @adhd.nutritionist is an ADHDer helping fellow adult ADHDers.

Does your mum make you feel bad about your body? Does she comment on your weight or tell you how much to eat?
Your mum may never stop dieting. Or commenting on your weight.
This is a sad – but important thing to realise – your mother may never change.
Luckily, you can change how you respond to her comments – and see them for what they are, disordered eating and really crumby body image compounded over many years.
Unfortunately, this is a concept familiar to so many people – including today’s guest, Jess Robinson.
Jess is an award-winning British actor and celebrated voice artist. Yet behind the spotlight, she is battling with body image and diet culture.
I was so excited to chat with Jess because she doesn’t shy away from vulnerability. We rewind to her upbringing, where her mother's diet pursuits and comments lead to so many years pursuing an unattainable body.
I loved this chat, we chatted about shedding harmful narratives, embracing intuitive eating, and establishing strong boundaries to protect ourselves from other people’s comments.
But the best part of Jess’ Real Story – is how incredibly far she has already come. And I know her life will continue to be filled with those light-bulb moments.
Realising how GOOD life can actually be, without dieting.
Ps. If you adored Jess as much as I did - check her out on Instagram.

Eating disorders can affect everyone, and in today's Real Story, we meet Sophia, who knows this all too well.
Sophia's journey towards recovery has been truly remarkable, starting from her use of food as a means of control during infancy, to being admitted to the hospital for not eating, and to collecting memories of passing comments about her food intake from family members. Despite suffering deeply from an eating disorder, she even faced rejection from an eating disorder clinic due to being at a healthy weight.
Navigating the rough road to recovery isn't easy, and Sophia has come such a long way from the depths of her eating disorder. However, her life can still be influenced by food rules, and she often faces the temptation to diet.
Do you know what's healthier than kale? A good relationship with food and your body.
This chat highlights the significant role of supportive relationships and the power of positive affirmations in breaking free from disordered eating.
Weight loss isn't the ultimate goal; it's about creating a healthier relationship with food. Lyndi debunks calorie myths and discusses the significance of adopting healthier habits over time rather than obsessing over immediate results.

❔ Are you a binge or emotional eater? If you feel out of control around food, or can’t stop eating once you start, take my free quiz. I promise to hand over helpful guidance to help you create a normal relationship with food.
Ever felt like your relentless thoughts about food are working against you rather than for you? Consider this your golden opportunity to shift that narrative.
Thinking about food when one is hungry or making cooking plans is completely normal. But thinking about food constantly? That may be a sign that something is up.
Understanding the reason behind your persistent thoughts about food is key to overcoming them. Keep in mind that foods differ in nutritional value, not moral value. Unfortunately, diet culture has led us to mistakenly attach moral judgments to certain foods.
And gee, does Lyndi understand that. At the age of 11, she was made to be scared of pasta, eating carrot noodles long before zoodles were even a thing. Lyndi started a food tracker, writing down everything she ate and obsessing over every mouthful. For over a decade, as long as she followed her regimen, she was fine. However, if she felt compelled to break her dieting rules, enter anxiety.
In today's episode, Lyndi shares her tips to shift your focus and stop obsessing over food.

In this week’s Real Story, we meet Demi. And we are SO glad to have met her.
Demi is currently raising her 15 month old son, all while recovering from an eating disorder that has controlled her life for over 15 years. Big stuff.
After years of battling bulimia, anorexia, and orthorexia, she decided to seek help to ensure a healthier narrative for little boy. But as many women can relate too, body image issues often intensify during pregnancy and unwanted comments can bring a constant reminder back to appearance and weight.
Challenging diet rules and trusting our bodies is another crucial part of the journey. And now it is time for Demi to make meals and food choices for her son. Lyndi helps with ways to break down food rules without overwhelming the system too much.
Spoiler: One rule at a time.
Social media may paint a different picture, but feeding our kids is not a competition, but a journey of learning and teaching.
Raising children is hard enough. As parents let’s celebrate the small victories along the way.
Diets are often passed down from generation to generation, like an old tea set that nobody wants.
Meet Christina. She is throwing out the tea set. And that's why we are so excited to have share her story.
She may not remember a time in her life where she wasn't on a diet, but Christina is a mother to her young daughter, and is working really hard to break free from the harmful effects of diet culture and food trauma.
Lyndi and Christina chat about the importance of how language is used around food, setting boundaries with family members and role modelling healthy habits.
Remember while your parents may have said or done things that impacted your relationship with food, you can still raise your children to have a healthy relationship with food.
If we redefine what it mean to be healthy and show that to our children, we can set them up for a lifetime of counting happy memories and never almonds.
Meet our next real story guest, Tanya.
Tanya has suffered from disordered eating and various eating disorders her entire life. From the pressures of dance classes at the young age of 5, to the influence of her all-girls schooling, Tanya's story is unfortunately relatable, but her recovery is inspiring.
Join Lyndi as she explores Tanya's journey from restrictive eating and excessive exercise to bingeing during her teenage years, and her path to recovery through Lyndi’s Keep It Real program.
They chat about how recognising and validating your own emotions can help cope with difficult days, and how a compassionate approach to oneself is crucial when dealing with disordered eating.
Tanya reveals her ultimate source of inspiration: her four-year-old daughter. As a single mother, Tanya is determined to rebuild her relationship with food and her body, becoming a healthy role model for her child.
This conversation serves as a reminder to anyone struggling with disordered eating: recovery is possible, and it's never too late to embark on a journey of healing and self-acceptance.
Thinking about food when you’re hungry or making cooking plans is completely normal. But thinking about food constantly? That may be a sign something is up.
You're not alone. The statistics show that 70 - 80% of women have disordered eating. But when does disordered eating become an eating disorder? And most importantly, how can we stop it.
The first step in creating a lasting change in your relationship with food, is recognising if the thoughts or behaviours you have around food that are disordered. Only when you acknowledge a problem, can you start to get the support to solve it.
Whether you're looking to improve your own relationship with food or support someone else in their journey, this episode will help you recognise the signs.
Experiencing anxiety can feel like an uphill battle, but what if alcohol is contributing to your anxiety?
Lyndi was diagnosed with clinical anxiety at the age of 21 and has experimented with medication, therapies and habits along the way. But she was fascinated about the disappearance of her anxiety during both her pregnancies. In this episode Lyndi & Jenna share personal experiences with anxiety and a journey to better mental health.
Lyndi is on a year-long alcohol break, exploring the booming selection of non-choices, and seeing if it is making a lasting impact on her mental health. Jenna has previously done a similar experiment but with different results. And we love this because as with everything we highlight in this podcast, it is all about personal experimentation and what works for you.
Listen in as we highlight the importance of being mindful of our alcohol consumption and its potential to take the 'spark' out of our lives.
Lyndi doesn't often talk about weight loss, although it's something clients frequently approach her about. The reason? Trying to lose weight often makes you more obsessed with food, making it harder to be healthy. Plus, pursuing weight loss doesn't actually lead to weight loss.
However, she isn't against you losing weight. She is against you trying to lose weight.
It's a subtle but oh-so-important difference. Weight loss is fine. But don't aim for it. Don’t slay your body, don’t compromise your well-being in order to lose weight. Let it become something that happens as a side effect of making healthier choices.
There is a way we can have a healthy conversation about the desire to lose weight and we are tackling it in this 3 part series. If you haven't listened to episodes 1 & 2, jump into those first so you have the background for the thinking around this nuanced topic.
In part 3, let's look at what Lyndi is actually doing and implementing into her new mother-of-two life. It is time for the practical strategies for achieving a stronger and healthier body without dieting.
Remember the relentless pursuit of weight loss often leads to an unhealthy obsession with food, making it even harder to feel good. Let's do the opposite.

In this episode, we continue the conversation around the post-baby journey with Lyndi. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, we highly recommend starting there to get the full context.
Lyndi knows the significance of being open and authentic about her post-baby weight loss experience. She wanted to avoid creating the narrative that the weight will simply "fall" off her without any effort. Because let's face it. It won't.
However, she also admitted feeling nervous about discussing this topic in the non-diet world, where conversations around weight are sensitive and complex. Especially if people are on different stages of their own journey in rebuilding their relationships with food and their bodies.
Despite the challenges, we know this is an important conversation to continue. Because you can accept your body as it is and also make food and movement choices that will make your body feel great at the same time.
Lyndi has helped so many people in their fight against diet culture, recognising that each journey is unique. However, amidst the differences, there are many common threads that connect us all as we battle the Wellness Wankery. Enter Real Stories. And it is oh so exciting to share them with you!
The first guest, Tracey, bravely shares her deeply personal story. At the tender age of 5, Tracey found herself thrust into the world of diets, an experience that profoundly shaped her relationship with food and her body. And by the time she turned 10, she had already begun a secret and strained journey with food.
Join us as Tracey tells her story nearly 50 years on - of weight loss surgery and countless diets, recounting the lessons learned along the way and how she is heading towards self-acceptance.
If you would like to share your story on the podcast - we would love to hear from you. Send through a little bit about yourself and your story to hello@lyndicohen.com
In this vulnerable chat, Lyndi breaks away from her maternity leave to update the podcast on her life. This is Lyndi's first-ever solo episode, and she opens up about the journey she's been on since welcoming her precious 10-week-old baby girl, Charlie.
While nourishing and nurturing Charlie, Lyndi finds herself in her new body, one she loves and respects, but sometimes isn’t making her feel as great as she could. How can you lose weight while respecting your body and maintaining your healthy relationship with food? Let’s hear what’s on her mind.

In a society where there’s so much pressure on us to do all the things, it’s no surprise we’re all so freakin’ exhausted.
When we’re burning the candle at both ends, it’s tempting to mainline caffeine just to get through the day. And don’t get me wrong, I love my magical bean juice as much as the next girl. It’s delicious. But when we’re already overwhelmed and exhausted, drinking too much coffee can just put more pressure on our adrenals. Sadly, coffee is not the answer. Neither is wine, although it may help you forget the question!
So what is the answer? Better quality sleep. Excellent Sleep.
Enter Dr Stan Rodski. Stan Rodski is a highly respected cognitive neuroscientist and authority on improved brain performance in high-stress situations. He is the author of The Neuroscience of Mindfulness and more recently, The Neuroscience of Excellent Sleep.
Let's get his top 5 tips for having a better night's sleep.
Do you feel like you are doing all the "right" things but you can't seem to lose weight. You are counting calories or counting macros - never straying from the plan - and yet nothing seems to be happening.
If it feels like your body is fighting against you when you try to lose those last few kilograms, it’s because of your body IS fighting against you.
This used to be Lyndi. When she was a dieter, she punished herself to try and look better in a bikini. She wasted time wondering why she was gaining weight even though her food consumption was perfectly calculated.
It made everything harder… But not anymore.
Because through learning about intuitive eating, she discovered the real secret to health.
Just take a handful of almonds!Don’t count them. In fact, you don’t need to count anything including macros, points and calories. It’s soul sucking and makes healthy eating painful. You can only count for so long before you feel deprived.
You don’t want to spend the rest of your life counting… you just want to be able to eat and enjoy and be happy.
Count the things you should be grateful for. Way more effective.
Lyndi's inbox is constantly inundated with questions around becoming a nutritionist or a dietitian.

So if you are thinking of becoming a dietitian or nutritionist, this one is for you.

Mindful eating is paying attention to the food you eat & when we don’t eat mindfully – we are much more likely to overeat. We eat quickly, not enjoying our food as much as we can.
Eating when you are bored is a great example of mindless eating.
But why do we do it? And how can we stop?

After a weekend of indulging or after a binge, you may be tempted to try and counteract eating more than you wanted by restricting and ‘trying to be good’.
Warning: This will most likely lead to MORE overeating in the long run.
In fact, ‘trying to be good’ after a binge is one of the biggest mistakes… and it’s what keeps many people stuck in the overeating cycle.
You can either choose to be angry that you binged and promise to do better tomorrow (but that doesn’t get you anywhere)…
OR to you can realise that binges are OK.
Each time you overeat you can learn something.
Seem hard to believe? Let's find out what exactly you can learn and more importantly what you should do.

Having a bad body image day?
Diet culture talk. It’s pervasive. It breeds insecurities.
It’s disheartening and restrictive – and it spreads.
Often, it’s something we do on autopilot because we’ve been told for so long we’re supposed to feel bad about our bodies. All that negative noise can be hard not to internalise.
Especially if you’re having a bad body image day.
It's time to unpack what to do when your body image and self-esteem spiral.
Reminder: Don't allow a bad body image day to derail your health.

Eating disorders can affect everyone – not just the thin.
Our society encourages overconsumption. Yet we also demand thinness, willpower and self-control. We seem incapable of believing that being overweight is anything but a result of greed and that it’s simply evidence of weakness or laziness.
This creates the belief that bingeing is a ‘failure’. Bingeing is a fundamentally misunderstood act, yet newsflash: binge eatingdisorder (BED) is also the most common type of eating disorder.
Binge eating disorder controlled Lyndi's life for 10 years. During this time, she felt like food controlled her. She was always trying to lose weight. She didn’t want to binge eat but she didn’t know how to stop binge eating.
We have chatted on the podcast about many people. But now it's time for Lyndi's story.
If you struggle with binge and emotional eating, please try Lyndi's FREE 5-day course. It’ll teach you the strategies she used when learning to stop binge eating.
For more personalised support, check out the Keep It Real Program. It’s based on Lyndi's clinical experience as a dietitian so it won’t just be another failed attempt. Plus, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee so nothing to lose by trying this new approach.
In the weeks since Lyndi has released her new book Your Weight Is Not The Problem, she heard from multiple (ex) Weight Watchers customers that after posting a photo of the book in the WW Connect forum, it was almost immediately deleted by admins...
Seems like WW knows she might be onto something and that’s got them worried. And so they should be. The evidence is clear and people are starting to listen. Not only do diets not work, they overwhelmingly do more harm than good.
And with all this talk of WW..the ears of No Wellness Wankery were engaged. Both Lyndi and Jenna have been through the school of Weight Watchers and have come out with the scars to prove it. Looking at foods and having their 'points value' etched into your brain, bingeing on 'free' foods or the dread of a public weigh-in.
Lyndi put the call out on her Instagram for her lovely followers to write in with their tales of WW and the response was overwhelming. So we knew we needed to dive in.
This episode is a space free from diet judgement or 'failure'. A place for you to know that you haven't failed Weight Watchers, it has probably failed you.
Note: For legal reasons, the following episode is based on personal experiences. Many of you kindly shared your stories with us. Names may be changed to retain their privacy. But all stories are told as they were shared.
Chocolate is the most commonly craved food, and women are more likely to crave chocolate than men. But why?
Cravings are patterns, they are habits that you formed over time, and it’s time to pay attention to them. Once you identified what a craving means for you, you can break the cycle, change the habit and get rid of the craving.
So let's dive into today's episode all about what your food cravings are telling you.
If you've listened to this episode and you know what your food cravings are telling you, and yet you feel out of control around more often than not, you’ll get a lot of value from Lyndi's FREE 5-day course to end binge and emotional eating. It will be delivered via email straight into your inbox.

This week we are diet myth debunking. Do we need protein added to our peanut butter? Do we need protein added to our ice-cream?! Why am I always hungry? Do I need to 'balance' my hormones? Is collagen and bone broth essential for gut health? What kind of yoghurt should I buy?
If you are already feeling overwhelmed by that list. Let's fix that.
Let's decipher the truth from the marketing. And the little tricks that Instagram influencers use to sell us their products.
Lyndi is always talking to her clients about the power of getting help from a non-diet dietitian alongside a good psychologist. And boy have we found a good psychologist for this week's episode.
Glenn Mackintosh is a psychologist who is seriously passionate about eating, physical activity, weight and body image.
Glenn is the author of the best-selling Thinsanity: 7 Steps to transform your mindset and say goodbye to dieting forever. He is also the founder of the Weight Management Psychology clinic, and the creator of the Transformation Support Community which is an online program. Plus, has a YouTube channel that you should really check out.
Lyndi and Glenn are chatting all things emotional eating - diving into what your brain is really trying to tell you when you have the urge to eat maybe when you're not hungry or not even tasting the food at all!
Glenn also explains the mystery around why we know what we should be doing but sometimes we just give up and do the opposite, plus the importance of emotional hygiene.
Oh, and the cure for emotional eating... (spoiler: it has nothing to do with food).

If you are a frequent listener of the No Wellness Wankery podcast, you would know that only 5% of Australians eat enough veggies. And that we are on a mission to change this.
We thought it was about time to bring a certified vegetable expert to the show to help us say GOODBYE to boring veg! Meet Alice.
In the space of a decade, Alice Zaslavsky has gone from high-school teacher to releasing an internationally award-winning and bestselling cookbook. And of course the cookbook in questions is the very epic, 450 page 'In Praise of Veg'. It is the definitive guide to making vegetables the centre of the plate. Something we believe is SO important to our health.
So what are her secrets? In this episode Alice speaks about why she thinks we aren't eating enough veg, what to do to make them taste amazing and how we can all be better in the kitchen.
Plus she tells us all about her new book 'The Joy of Better Cooking' and how we can all become better in the kitchen in our favourite way possible...done is better than perfect. So if you're already assembling ingredients in the kitchen, you're already a better cook than you think.
Ps. If you're not already following Alice on Instagram, jump on over to continue your new love of Brussels sprouts.

To kick off 2023, we have decided to mix up the format of No Wellness Wankery. And we are outrageously pleased to introduce our first guest to the podcast, Turia Pitt.
Over ten years ago - At age 24, Turia Pitt's life was drastically changed. She was competing in a 100km ultra marathon in the Australian outback, she encountered an out of control grassfire. Turia was trapped by the flames, and suffered burns to 65% of her body.
She survived against the overwhelming odds, undergoing over 200 medical procedures and has gone on to rebuild an extraordinary life. She has written three best-selling books, given birth to 2 babies, has coached thousands of people to lead happier lives through the Run with Turia program, which Lyndi has personally done.
Lyndi asks Turia about how she ensures greatness is squeezed into everyday, how she uses movement on bad body image days and the simple tricks to ensuring you remain consistent with exercise.
Spoiler: It's not about enlisting the help of an even scarier person to yell at you at the gym to do one more rep....
Oh and if you’ve EVER thought about learning how to run... if you like the idea of being a runner but worry that you don’t have time or don’t look like a runner or can’t even jog for 50m without getting puffed out... then you’ve gotta check out Turia Pitt's Run with Turia program.
You’ll have the best running coach in Turia Pitt, who I reckon is the real, deal. Her advice is doable, realistic (and totally free from wellness wankery) even if you’re a busy mum or human.
Did you see I was recently on Turia's insanely wonderful podcast? If not, check out the episode here to hear me explain why you shouldn't set a weight loss goal this year...

While we wish Sam the best, let's prefer save money, time AND eat healthily.
So what are the other ingredient's Lyndi always has in her pantry, fridge & freezer so that she is always ready to whip up a quick healthy meal?

A dietitian and nutritionist are not the same thing.
But don't worry, you are not alone if this concept is confusing!
Our lovely listener Caitlin, had a run in with a nutritionist who was dishing out dodgy advice. But thank goodness she had the tools of No Wellness Wankery, to see they were causing her more harm than good. And ditch them.
Caitlin asked Lyndi what the industry is doing about the fact that anyone can call themselves a nutritionist?
Remember it’s a dietitian and nutritionists job to make people healthier – not thinner.
There is no one diet that is perfect for everybody. Any ‘expert’ who pretends there is only one, magical way is probably just a health blogger (or celebrity) without any qualifications. What’s healthy for me may not feel right for you.

Menopause with its seriously un-fun hot flushes and dodgy hormones highs and lows is a huge time of change in the body. It's hard to dodge.
But guess what we don't need?
The fear mongering content as we approach this change around weight gain.
As with most wellness wankery, the content around weight gain and menopause is rooted in some source of truth. But does this mean this information is helpful?
And more importantly, what should we be doing instead of introducing more control, more restriction and more dieting?
Let's dive into our listener question from Pru and find out.

If you are a dedicated No Wellness Wankery listener, you would know that is BS.
If you're new. Welcome.
Unlike what all the magazines, social media, radio ads, television ads or billboards tell us... your 'summer body' isn’t earned by removing all your body hair, colouring in your brows or finally getting ‘toned’.

We are in a wave of new information and research about the gut-brain axis. How the health of our gut can impact our mental health. But did you know this goes both ways? What our thoughts are around food - 'good' foods and 'bad' foods - impacts our stomach and how we feel after eating.
Remember food isn’t good or bad, food is just food. Yet every day, we’re bombarded with conflicting advice about what we ‘should’ be eating. We know it's very easy to tell you 'don't label foods as good or bad', but the Milkshake experiment showed us why it really matters.
Wtf is the Milkshake Experiment? It's a 2011 study, where psychologist Alia Crum got volunteers to drink a 'healthy' milkshake and an 'unhealthy' milkshake... the results will amaze you.

Breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day. Or is it?
For many of us, the idea that we need to eat breakfast each morning is deeply ingrained. But do you actually need to eat in the morning to be healthy?
Maybe when you were a kid, breakfast was a non-negotiable. Then, as you grew up, you were likely bombarded with diet articles, telling you to eat’ breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper’.
And it can feel like no expert can ever agree on whether or not breakfast is important for your wellbeing.
So then – do you actually need to eat breakfast to be healthy? Well, it depends who’s asking… Let’s get into it.

We firmly believe that speaking to a trained mental health professional is 100% wellness and 0% wankery. So in the spirit of wellness, this is the first of many conversations we will have on the podcast about mental health. We need to give our emotional health the same importance we give physical wellbeing.
Lyndi, Jenna and millions of other people around the world have been diagnosed with clinical anxiety. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but it is something we can work with and learn from everyday. Lyndi has learnt a lot along her journey with anxiety and every conversation about treatment options or medication further removes the stigmas around asking for help.
If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression or any other mental health condition (or even if you are just feeling ‘out-of-sorts’ emotionally), it doesn’t hurt to simply ‘have a chat’ with a professional. You can start with your GP, who can refer you to an awesome Psychiatrist or psychologist. Or you can find a counsellor you like.
The hardest is part is reaching out for support and help. You’ll have to be brave but I promise, it is so worth it.

During Covid lockdowns, Lyndi was bright eyed and bushy tailed and set on having her own organic vegetable patch. Upon reflection she realised she was probably impacted by the purity ideals of 'eating organic'. She ended up paying a ridiculous amount of money per carrot and was providing a daily delicious lunch to all the local wildlife. But do we really need to go to these extremes? Lyndi used to hate her body. Like really hate her body.

Eventually she realised, her weight was never the problem. The problem was a lack of self-acceptance.
So how do you go from hating your body to loving it? It doesn’t happen overnight, or even after a week of nights. If you’ve been hating your body for years, it’s going to take some time to repair that relationship. But here are her top tips to accepting and respecting your body.

Lyndi has spoken to many women who tell a similar story and ask “how can I stop my mum commenting on or criticising my weight and body?” So it's time to tackle it on the podcast.
Because remember when people comment on your weight or body – or criticise how you look – it stays with you and affects your self-confidence and relationship with food. It does more harm than good.
The truth is that IF your mum is commenting on your weight or criticising your body and food choices – it says a lot more about her relationship with food than it does about your size.

From the moment you were born, you intuitively knew how much food your body needed to get enough energy. You cried when you were hungry and stopped eating when you were satisfied. You did not need a meal plan to tell you the best way to eat for your blood type or a diet book to guide your eating.
You were born understanding how to best fuel your body so that you thrived, grew strong and healthy. But for many of us, we have lost this.
Being told to always finish everything on your plate, silly diet rules or learning to eat according to the clock, all damage our ability to eat intuitively.
This week's listener question came from Jess, and we unpack how we can get retrain our thinking about clearing out plates and become in tune with our hunger again.

The beautiful, the brutal and the downright ugly.
Before Lyndi physically birthed a tiny boy she was blissfuly ignorant about the realities of motherhood. Of course as a dietitian by profession, she was aware of the nutritional requirements for breastfeeding but only now having experienced it herself does she truly understand the insatiable omnipresent hunger.
The rude shock of childbirth and its groundswell of hormones and emotions, instantaneously gave way to the even ruder one of being charged with the round-the-clock task of keeping a human baby alive.
Lyndi opens up about grieving her old life and finding routine in her new one. About the normal struggles of resisting the temptation to diet, making time for yourself and most importantly the impact it can have on your self esteem and mental health.... to own a bra that fits you.

Chances are you were raised by parents who had never heard of the phrase ‘healthy relationship with food’.
If this doesn't apply to you - what a win! But this definitely applies for Lyndi, Jenna and our listener of the week, Gabi, who sent this question across.
While your parents may have said or done things accidentally that impacted your relationship with food (making it harder to enjoy food without guilt, stop eating when you feel full and love your body), you can help raise your children to have a healthy relationship with food.
There are a few things to keep in mind if you want your child to learn how to eat intuitively, live healthily and love their body.

It’s impressive to think there are around 100 trillion micro-organisms from bacteria to fungi, viruses and protozoa that all exist in your gut! A growing amount of research suggests that these gut bugs play an important role in your health supporting immunity, mood and oh-so much more. But the research still has so far to go and where there is uncertainty, there can be misinformation and wankery!
While your period, sleep and stress can all impact gut health, there is a lot you can do to support a health gut microbiome - without spending hundreds of dollars on supplements or going on a restrictive diet.
So why are we all obsessed with gut health? And what should we be focusing on?

Diets don’t work – 96% of them fail long-term. So why are more people on a diet than ever?
Welcome to a brave new ‘wellness’ world where diets are dressed up and paraded as a ‘healthy lifestyle choice’ or ‘a way of eating’.
This sly rebrand tricks you into thinking you’re doing the “right thing” for your body. But diets, like the Atkins Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet and Lemon Detox Diet to name a few I’ve tried over the years, were much less damaging when they said what they were on the tin (though still plenty harmful.)
But it appears even diet companies are realising that diets don't work and are rebranding to try and entice us back in. So how do we know if we are eating intuitively or really just on another diet.
Not across intuitive eating? Well, you know instinctively know when you are tired and when you need the bathroom. But did you know that a very similar mechanism can help you regulate your weight without you even trying? You may even be familiar with this system. It is called appetite. Getting back in tune with it can teach you how to stop yo yo dieting for good.
As more and more diet companies try and commercialise the principles of intuitive eating, we need to know the clear warning signs to look out for!

Struggling and just can’t lose the last few pounds? Do you know why it’s hard to lose them?
Society and your Instagram feed have programmed you to think that’s how you ‘should’ look, so you torture yourself to lose those last few pounds.
But why am I not losing weight in a calorie deficit, on an expensive weight loss program, or meal plan?
If it feels like your body is fighting against you when you try losing the last 5 kilos, maybe it’s because of your body IS fighting against you?
When Lyndi was a dieter, she used to punish herself to try and look better in a bikini....(whatever this even means?)
But it made everything harder… But not anymore.

23 almonds. 2 cheese slices. ½ cup pasta. 21 grapes. A virtuous way of eating, or a gazillion reasons to have an untrusting relationship with food?
Portion control. It’s something we’ve been taught. A system that can help us eat correctly. A way to lose weight. A means for exercising willpower.
But the clue to its insidious inflicted misery is in the second half of the name. Control. Portion control creates shame and guilt about what we eat. It makes food a moral issue. It amplifies our fear of gaining weight, generates stress and takes up a lot of mental energy. And along the way, we forget how to eat normally.
How can you build a meaningful life when you’re busy counting almonds in the name of achieving the “correct” body?

It's here! The first official episode of the No Wellness Wankery podcast... and we are starting with a doozy.
"I feel fat".
‘Feeling fat’ is something Lyndi & Jenna know too well. For Lyndi, it was triggered by a number of things, like seeing a photo of herself where she looked much bigger than she wanted to, feeling uncomfortable in her clothes, scrolling social media and comparing herself to others. Or after a weekend of eating more than she planned or not exercising as much as she wanted. Oh, and a friend losing weight when I didn't could also lead to 'feeling fat'.
Unfortunately, ‘feeling fat’ doesn’t motivate you to get healthy or stay healthy. When you ‘feel fat’, your knee-jerk reaction is to go on a wild diet or bury your head in a tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Neither of those things will help long term.
How to stop feeling fat? In this episode we unpack some of the things that can make a difference to your health, without the side serving of body-loathing.
Plus, we want to end each episode by calling out someone in the wellness world who is doing great things. Yay. Let's do it.
