In this episode of Mundelein Minute we'll dive into the Village Board meeting held on Monday, November 25, 2024 (sorry it took a week to post this episode!). The board heard a concept presentation from Terrabis, a proposed cannabis dispensary. The board also adjusted parking in the downtown, paid bills, and more. Tune in for a brief update.
In this episode we're discussing the Village of Mundelein annual tax levy, including amounts and rates as part of the recent Committee of the Whole meeting. We also recap the Village Board Meeting from November 11, 2024.

On Monday, February 12, the Board met for a Committee of the Whole for the Mayor's "State of the Village" address. During this meeting he presents a top ten and highlights various topics with a few minutes for Q&A. The meeting is followed by the Board Meeting. In this episode we'll recap both meetings. On January 22, the Board heard from the Hezner Corporation on plans they designed for the Bank Triangle at the center of Downtown Mundelein. In this episode we talk through some of the plans details and our impressions of what it is and what isn't. We also discuss the short yet important board meeting where we welcomed a new Deputy Police Chief and new Police Commander, as well as the other business of the Village. FYI - Bank Triangle plans are available on the Village Website for pubic review.
Recapping two meetings in this episode - The Committee of the Whole where the board discussed designs for plaza circle and a Board Meeting where we heard from a new restaurant paid bills, and said goodbye to a member of the Village's community planning staff.
The board held a Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday prior to the Board Meeting to discuss the tax levy. We scheduled 30 mins and discussed the levy for 45. Today, we're recapping that meeting along with the Village board meeting.
Episode #70!! This week we're diving into the board meeting on October 23, 2023. During this meeting we had a presentation from the Mundelein Park District regarding their request for video gaming terminals at their golf course. The first board meeting of a new board there was a lot to do! We welcomed Trustee Robin Meier back to the board, celebrated several promotions at the Fire Department, installed several commissioners, and met our new Police Department comfort dog - Millie. On top of all that it's also the beginning of the new fiscal year so lots of contracts are up for renewal and payment. This past week the board welcomed a new Trustee, contemplated a new liquor license classification and large concert, event tax, annexation of property, gave grants to some new businesses, and more! It was a busy board meeting. Stay up on the happenings in Mundelein with this week's minute.
This week's minute has a VERY special guest you'll have to tune in to meet. This episode is quite short, as was the meeting. We adopted the new zoning map, as required to do annually, and we enacted the Park Street User Agreements (spoiler alert: No increase in cost to the businesses).

The board agreed to a term sheet which will hopefully lead to further agreements and new apartments, commercial space, and townhomes on our Plaza Circle! Over the past 12-18 months the Village of Mundelein has seen an increase in the sales of alcohol to those under 21 - in some cases even being sold by minors to minors. We're addressing it this week with an increase to our fines. Not just an increase but doubling them! This week we're also excited to welcome our new Finance Director, Linda Miller! What a night! This week the Village Board heard a presentation from developers who've been working closely with the Wirtz family to create a unique neighborhood that'll be the first of it's kind in Illinois! With more than 2,000 homes of different types with design elements not seen to in today's developments, Ivanhoe Village is proposed with Traditional Neighborhood Designs (TND) to create a walkable and community feel.

This week we're discussing a proposed apartment complex on Butterfield and an existing car dealer moving to Mundelein and taking over the vacant lot on 45. With lots of public commentary we discuss community concerns and how we take that into consideration when reviewing proposals.
Just at ten minutes, this is one of the quickest Village Board Meetings we've seen - if not the quickest. We still paid bills, bought a few vehicles (important pricing update), contracted some HVAC repairs, and updated a redevelopment agreement and separate plat.

Two years in a row the Village of Mundelein is on track for surplus budgets and adding money into reserves! For the first time ever - Sales tax outpaced property tax to become the largest source of revenue for the Village! This budget comes with other great news: increased street budget (and work), capital improvement projects in the works, and for the second year an additional one million dollars into reserves. This episode dives into the #MunicipalMath behind the budget and highlights the next years finances.

Well that's a clickbait title. Just to clarify, a COW is a Committee of the Whole meeting and yes, we did have a meeting to discuss the tax levy - and more! In this episode it's Trustee Schwenk x2 as we dive into the COW and Village Board Meeting. Spoiler alert, the Mundelein Village Board didn't raise taxes and you may even see a decrease next year!

The Western Slopes Stormwater "Big Dig" project is complete! This project was four years in the making, cost more than $9M, included land swaps, park creation, multiple easements, and nearly a half-mile worth of 7 foot box culverts being buried. It's officially done!
