Woodbine track announcer Dan Loiselle called his last race at Woodbine racetrack on May 31, 2015, after 29 years as a Thoroughbred race caller. After 17 years of announcing Standardbreds, he successfully switched to Thoroughbreds on July 23, 1986.
Dan Loiselle called five Canadian Triple Crown champions "With Approval" (1989), "Izvestia" (1990), "Dance Smartly" (1991), "Peteski" (1993), and "Wando" (2003). More recently, Loiselle called "Wise Dan's" second G1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile triumph.

Mark E. Casse is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer who has won thirteen (13) Sovereign Awards for outstanding trainer in Canada and has been the leading trainer at Woodbine Racetrack 14 times. In 2019, he won his first American Classic with War of Will in the Preakness Stakes.
Robert P. Tiller is our special guest on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, of Journeys - The Talk Show hosted by Sean Hall, co-host Leroy Trotman, and Brett Callaghan.
Robert P. Tiller (born December 11, 1949, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands) is a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. A resident of Brampton, Ontario, he has long been one of the top trainers at Toronto's Woodbine Racetrack.
He has won four training titles at Woodbine Racetrack, earned three Sovereign Awards for Outstanding Trainer, and was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2008.
Tiller has won four Woodbine training titles, capturing top honors in 1994 with 65 wins, 1997 (55 wins), 2001 (62 wins), and 2003 (72 wins).
In 2003, Tiller earned his second Sovereign Award after a career-best year with 71 wins, 15 stakes victories, and over C$4 million in earnings. Trainee Brass in Pocket was a Sovereign-Award finalist after winning five stakes races.
Tiller followed up with his third Sovereign Award in 2004 when he was Woodbine's leading sprint trainer with 47 wins in the division. Trainee Simply Lovely was named the Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Filly.
In 2008, he was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
On June 19, 2020, at Woodbine Racetrack, Tiller won his 2000th race.

Eurico is a retired Thoroughbred racing jockey who raced for five years in his native Brazil and another four years in Macau before coming to Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. Saffie Joseph Jr. is our special guest on July 27th, 2022, of Journeys - The Talk Show hosted by Sean Hall, co-host Leroy Trotman, and Brett Callaghan.
Saffie Joseph Jr. is a third-generation horseman. Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather and Father, he has become one of the Top Trainers at Gulfstream Park. Through hard work, dedication, and a dream of becoming the next Kentucky Derby Winner, Saffie left his hometown in Barbados to train Thoroughbreds.
Often seen together watching horses train in the morning. Saffie Sr has lent his knowledge and hands-on experience to guide and perfect his son's training ability. This husband and father of two trains and races year-round at Gulfstream Park."
Slade Callaghan was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, and is a jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. Slade Callaghan grew up on the beautiful island of Barbados, surrounded by sea, sand, and surf; however, despite all the distractions, Slade had blinkers on and was focused on only one thing – to become a top thoroughbred jockey.
Slade earned his racing license at 16 in 1986, and after dedicated practice and determination, he won his first race in 1986. Unfortunately, shortly afterward, a severe accident left him with a shoulder injury requiring extensive treatment.
However, true to his determined belief that he would be a top jockey, Slade dusted himself off and was back in the saddle, winning his first race only ten months later.
He continued to race in Barbados until 1993, when he decided to try racing in Canada, where he had seen his brother, Brett, ride at Woodbine. Canada is where his riding career took off.
Considered tall for a jockey at 5' 8", Callaghan competed in his native Barbados, where his success led him to relocate in 1994 to a base at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Callaghan captured the 2002 Breeders' Stakes, a Canadian Classic Race, among his victories. In 2004 he traveled to his homeland, where he won the country's most prestigious race, the Barbados Gold Cup.
Since then, Slade has consistently won numerous races, including the Incitatus Cup on Barbados Day at Woodbine, the Grade 3 Connaught Cup, and the prestigious Grade 1 $1-million Woodbine Mile name a few.
Slade is still riding high on success; in 2009, he won three stakes. Incredibly this fearless jockey not only holds down his glittering career but also has a beautiful wife, Kelly, and remains close to his parents, David and Maureen, and his brother, Brett."

Michael Earl Smith (born August 10, 1965) is an American jockey who has been one of the leading riders in U.S. Thoroughbred racing since the early 1990s, was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2003, and has won the most Breeders' Cup races of any jockey with 27 Breeders' Cup wins. Smith is also the third leading jockey with over $336 million in earnings. In 2018, Smith rode Justify to the Triple Crown, becoming the oldest jockey to win the title at age 52.

Barbadian jockey Challenor "Chally" Jones MBE is considered the best jockey ever to emerge from the Caribbean. The talented jockey enjoyed success throughout the 1960s to the early 1980s when he dominated winner's circles in Barbados and Trinidad. The Queen appointed Challenor "Chally" Jones on the advice of Her Majesty's Barbados Ministers to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contribution to horse racing as a jockey.

Emma-Jayne Wilson (September 1, 1981) is a Sovereign and Eclipse Award-winning jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. In 2007 aboard Mike Fox, Wilson became the first woman to win North America's oldest and Canada's most important race, the Queen's Plate.
On September 16, 2012, Wilson joined jockey Francine Villeneuve to become only the second Canadian woman to achieve the 1,000 career victories plateau as she rode "D'wildcat Gold" to victory in the first race at Woodbine.
Three days later, by taking the fifth and sixth races at Woodbine, Emma-Jayne moved ahead of Villeneuve as Canada's all-time winningest female jockey, a distinction that Villeneuve had held for over ten years.
In 2018, she became just the second woman to win the Avelino Gomez Memorial Award, given annually to jockeys who have made significant contributions to Canadian thoroughbred horse racing.
Former Trinidad and Tobago champion thoroughbred trainer Joe Hadeed is the four-time champion trainer of the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The legendary trainer, Joe Hadeed will recall his JOURNEY and his many successes in Trinidad and at Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain which was the main venue for horse racing in Trinidad and Tobago until races were centralized, to the Santa Rosa Park, Arima on April 1994.
Chantal Sutherland is a Canadian model, television personality, and jockey in North American Thoroughbred horse racing. She is referred to as the Danica Patrick of horse racing. She is known for her appearances on the reality tv show, Jockeys on Animal Planet, and is the poster girl for the Del Mar racetrack. During an interview on Sky Sports in the lead-up to the Dubai World Cup race, she said that her primary vocation was a jockey.

Sandy Hawley decided to be a jockey when he was a 17-year-old boy, hot walking, grooming, and exercising horses at a Woodbine racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Two years later, when he was 19 years old, he rode his first race at the Woodbine race track as a Jockey. Then he became a regular rider at racetracks in Ontario and then rode at racetracks on the East Coast of the United States.
Hawley became the first jockey to ever lead the Canadian standings in an entire season as an apprentice. In 1969, when there were no Sovereign or Eclipse Awards for jockeys, Hawley rode 230 winners, the most that year of any apprentice jockey in North America.
He went on to race in the United States, where he led all jockeys in victories in 1970, 1972, 1973, and 1976. In 1973, he became the first jockey to win 500 races in one year, breaking Bill Shoemaker's record. Sandy Hawley has career earnings of over $88.6 million and was one of the most successful jockeys of his generation.
Racing in California, Hawley was named the winner of Santa Anita Park's prestigious George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award. Given to a North American rider who demonstrates the highest of standards of personal and professional conduct both on and off the racetrack, Hawley has had the lifelong reputation of being a gentleman and a man of honor. In 1976 he won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey in the United States after he broke thoroughbred racing's all-time money-winning record for a single year.
As a boy growing up in Canada, Hawley developed a love for the game of ice hockey, and while riding in California, he got an ice-level job as a penalty timekeeper for the home games of the Los Angeles Kings hockey team, giving himself a great view of his favorite game.
He won the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1973 and 1976 as Canada’s top athlete and was named a Member of the Order of Canada, his country’s highest individual civilian honor for outstanding accomplishments by a citizen.
In addition to winning many major Stakes races in the United States four times, he won Canada's most prestigious thoroughbred horse race, the Queen's Plate. Hawley won seven races in a single day at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack and at Santa Anita Park and had six wins in a single day on two occasions. Hawley and Avelino Gomez each won the Coronation Futurity Stakes a record five times. Gomez won the race four years running between 1964 and 1967. Hawley won the race five out of six between 1971 and 1976, his streak broken by Gomez's fifth win in 1972.
Hawley's best result in the Kentucky Derby was two third-place finishes, one of which was with Golden Act in 1979, aboard which he finished second in both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
Overall, Sandy Hawley's career as a jockey spanned 31 years, from 1968 to his retirement on July 1, 1998. He had 31,455 mounts, garnering 6,449 wins, and won 18 riding titles at Woodbine Racetrack.
Diagnosed with skin cancer in 1987, doctors only gave him a few months to live, but he fought to overcome the disease with experimental drugs, a careful high-fiber diet, and sheer determination.
Sandy Hawley was voted for the 1986 Avelino Gomez Memorial Award and was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame that same year. He was inducted into the United States National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1992 and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Sandy Hawley Award is presented annually by the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame to an individual who exemplifies a dedication to the community.
He currently is a Public Relations Ambassador for Woodbine Entertainment Group and resides in Toronto, Ontario with his wife, Kaoru. He has worked as an analyst for The Score and CKXT-TV's horse racing coverage.
Living Legends Race - On October 18, 2008, at Santa Anita Park, Sandy Hawley and seven other U.S. Racing Hall of Fame jockeys came out of retirement for the Living Legends Race that officially counted in their career totals and was specially approved for legalized parimutuel wagering.
Hawley earned his 6,450th official career victory with a win aboard Tribal Chief, a horse owned by musician/record producer Herb Alpert and his brother David Alpert.
