Modern schools champion technology and progress, yet find that this technology makes Modern schools obsolete. So, Modern schools attempt to restrict or prohibit the use of the technology they champion. As the calculator exposed the shallowness of Modern mathematics, artificial intelligence is going to expose the shallowness of the entire Modern curriculum. Children given a Modern Education will be inferior to machines and software powered by A.I. and will be useless in the Modern economy. Only real, classical education offers students what computers cannot imitate. This talk was given by Mr. William C. In this walk talk, Mr. William C. Michael discusses the principles and methods by which a Catholic man can lead a wife and children.

"Esau said, “Let us break camp and be on our way; I will travel in front of you.” But Jacob replied: “As my lord knows, the children are too young. And the flocks and herds that are nursing are a concern to me; if overdriven for even a single day, the whole flock will die. Let my lord, then, go before his servant, while I proceed more slowly at the pace of the livestock before me and at the pace of my children." (Genesis 33:12-14)

"The husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it:" (Ephesians 5:23-25)

In modern society, ignorance of the Socratic Method has led to two crises.  First, fake classical education has used the name to falsely advertise their books and schools, giving parents a false sense that their children are receiving benefits they are not.  Second, false dilemmas lead modern society into innumerable divisions which lead only to confusion, anger and, in some cases, violence.    In this talk, Mr. Michael explains what the Socratic Method actually is, making it clear that it is NOT what the fake classical education programs advertise, and explaining how it can help us out of the modern errors that lead to vexation and prevent us from living as we should.   +++    Don't just listen--please SHARE this video with Catholic friends and relatives and ACT on it.  For more information about classical Catholic education, and access to over 100 free online courses, visit https://classicalliberalarts.com.   +++  Mr. William C. Modern Christians are stuck in the midst of a false dilemma, pretending to wrestle with the question of how God created the world.  On one side the evolutionists revive the ancient, atomist philosophy of the Epicureans in the name of "science". On the other, Christians who have been in the same school of philosophy as the evolutionists falsely interpret the Scriptures, reading into them ideas that St. Augustine warned would come.  In this talk, Mr. William C. Michael discusses what's wrong with BOTH Evolution AND "Creation Science".

In 2021, modern K-12 schools are obsolete.  Thoughts of starting new schools lead us back to the first questions of goals and objectives--but few are asking these questions.  Instead they are planning copy and re-brand obsolete schools that can't be maintained elsewhere.  In this talk, Mr. William C. Michael of the Classical Liberal Arts Academy discusses the flaws of the K-12 school model and discusses what schools need to be in the 21st century.

Please note that all of Mr. Michael's walk talks are extemporaneous, informal meditations made while he is out of the office.  They are not intended to be heard as prepared, "scholarly" lectures.  They are intended to present developing ideas and begin discussions that lead to solutions.

The potential of homeschool of wasted is not realized because parents don't understand how a homeschool should be organized and managed--and the homeschool publishers urge them into bad practices to sell books and services.

In this talk, Mr. William C. Michael discusses the problems with homeschooling and the important relationship between homeschool parents and an expert tutor.

By far, the most popular topic in my discussions with parents over 20 years of full-time teaching and 21 years of homeschooling has been "How should we discipline our children?"

This is an extremely important topic for which there is no dumb, easy-to-market answer. With this first video, I will begin a series of meditations/talks through which I seek to work out the answers in as much detail as the investigation requires.

God help us.

Where have all the Christian writers gone? For centuries, Christians dominated literature--Augustine, Boethius, Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare, the list goes in and on. Today, they're nowhere to be found. Science and Math-based education has robbed the world of its great poets and writers. In this talk, Mr. Michael discusses where Christians can go for inspiration in writing, that Christian literature might see a renewal.

The virtuous pagans were known for their lives which modeled the four "classical" virtues of Temperance, Justice, Fortitude and Prudence. This, however, is not the virtue of the Christian life. Modern Christians, failing to attain to the classical virtues pretend to have Christian virtues instead, but this is a lie, since "Faith without works is useless.". In this talk, we meditate on the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity and see how they cause a Christian's life to surpass the standards of the virtuous pagans.

Modern schools talk about "critical thinking" and "public speaking" as if the ideas have never been considered before. Fake "classical" schools pretend that "Logic" and "Rhetoric" classes designed for the modern school calendar give children what they need to think and communicate effectively. Behind all this, the REAL arts of Reasoning and Rhetoric stand, largely untouched by modern students.

In this talk, Mr. Michael discusses the real art of Reasoning and how interested students can learn it, studying Aristotle's "Organon" in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.

Dorothy Sayers? "Grammar" stage? "Logic" stage? "Rhetoric" stage? Where did this stuff come from? How did these ideas enter into CATHOLIC circles? In 1991 (not 1995 as said in the video), Doug Wilson's book "Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning", called for a "return" to the "lost method" of education based on ideas found in a lecture by Dorothy Sayers called "The Lost Tools of Learning". The Protestant movement, which spread among private schools and homeschools, was latched onto by Catholics who began spreading these ideas in Catholic circles. Catholics received all of this with no questions, no requests for historical proof, and ran with it, starting homeschool programs and schools, publishing books and study programs. They did so with no evidence that this was, in fact, true Catholic education and yet promoted it zealously among Catholics as "classical Catholic education"--a claim that is completely false. In this video, Mr. Michael explains this history and calls Catholics to examine these ideas and, after doing so, actually return to true classical Catholic education.
