You Won't Believe What Happens When You Get Baptized With the Holy Spirit and Fire!

On this Mother's Day, let's talk about women. We have always chosen to celebrate all women on Mother's Day
at FCC. There are a lot of ideas about the role women should play in the family, the workplace, and the church. Pastor Josh takes this opportunity to clarify his understanding of all the Bible has to say about the role of women in the world.
We continue in our Shalom series, discussing how we begin restoring Shalom (right relationship) with other people. We already talked about Shalom being restored with God and ourselves, but what does it look like to have Shalom restored with other human beings?
God has created the Human Being to live in a network of relationships and has defined "righteousness" as being in right-relationship. Right relationship with God, self, other humans, and the world in which we live. When that network of relationships is functioning correctly, we call that a state of "Shalom" or Peace.
Sin has destroyed our shalom but Jesus came to restore shalom!
Today we target our relationships with God - how was it broken? How can it be restored?
God has created the Human Being to live in a network of relationships and has defined "righteousness" as being in right-relationship. Right relationship with God, self, other humans, and the world in which we live. When that network of relationships is functioning correctly, we call that a state of "Shalom" or Peace.

Today we target our relationships with ourselves. What does it mean to be in right relationship with self? How has that been broken? How is Jesus active to restore right relationship with ourselves?
1Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
4And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 5you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6For [this] is contained in Scripture: "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER [stone], AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."
7This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER [stone],"
8and, "A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE"; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this [doom] they were also appointed.
9But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR [God's] OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.

Set your mind on the things of the flesh, and you will die, but set your mind on things of the Spirit, and you will find life and peace. So Paul tells us in Romans chapter 8. What does that mean? How do we set our minds on the right things?
Peter encourages us to PREPARE for the days we live in. They may be dark, but God's promises have not changed
John 6, Romans 8 - God works through the small and the simple. He doesn't ask us to be the answer for the world - only to be available with what we have. We do not understand what is at work in us! God is able to take our little and change everything!

We continue our study of Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus. Paul made the turn from the theological to the practical and now gives us great insight into the way people who love God and love other people ought to live.
We continue our exploration of the letter to the Ephesian church. The Apostle Paul is making a plea for unity and in these verses walks through the 5 fold Office gifts given by Christ to keep unity and maturity in the church.

so we have been talking about the gifts of the Spirit - coming from a relationship with the Spirit, found in partnership with the Spirit but now we are going to talk about the HOW of the gifts. We must carry these precious gifts in the way Jesus taught us to do so. Love is what makes the gifts important. Without love the gifts are useless and sometimes even damaging.
