Mike Utzig '07 chats with Sam Zimmerman '02, a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor for The Mohawk Valley Group at Morgan Stanley. Sam graduated from Siena with majors in Accounting and Mathematics. After graduating, Sam worked for KPMG, LLP in their Albany, NY office as an auditor from 2002 to 2006 and earned his CPA license during that period. He then enrolled at Union Graduate College in Schenectady, NY, earning a Master of Arts Teaching degree, and he taught mathematics at Gloversville Middle School for two years. In August 2009, Sam changed career paths and joined The Mohawk Valley Group alongside his father, who recently retired in 2019. Currently holding his Financial Planning Specialist, Senior Portfolio Manager, and Insurance Planning Director designations, Sam focuses on building financial plans and managing investment portfolios for the team's clients.
Sam is involved in many community activities and organizations in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York State, including the Saints Alive! Athletics Advisory Council at Siena and the Board of Directors of Musicians of Ma'alwyck. In his free time, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, and is active member in the church communities of Broadalbin and Gloversville, NY.
