A podcast for architects, developers, and anyone interested in integrating green infrastructure into our urban spaces.This is where we discuss how we can optimise our urban spaces to support local biodiversity with green infrastructure systems.Often joined by professionals in the field, we'll discuss the importance of architects specifying systems that not only solve regulatory challenges (such as Biodiversity Net Gain) but become long-term environmental assets, and practical details on how this can be achieved.Interior design is another big part of building back greener, with the opportunity to restore our innate connection to nature where most of us spend 90% of our time: indoors. In some episodes we'll discuss how to build systems that improve health, well-being and productivity into our interior designs, and create better spaces for everyone.
Joined by Tom Butterworth, Head of Ecology UK for WSP, who works to support clients with meeting their objectives and targets for development together with their objectives for natural capital and nature.
In this podcast episode we focus on the developers role: is it possible to successfully balance development objectives with local nature objectives? And if so, how can it be done to get the best gains for each party?
Tom draws on his experience working in the environment-development sector, and how it's evolved as the BNG policy has come through. We discuss how green space affects sale value, the social aspect, resistance in the industry and the change that is coming.

Studies found that during lockdowns, people not only spent more time in nature but were noticing it more. The last 2 years have been a catalyst for change, but how are companies responding?

We often speak of biophilia in relation to interior design, but what about the outdoors? If biophilia describes our innate connection with nature, shouldn’t we be keeping this in mind when we design in our urban spaces?
Whilst too many children are brought up in places where they are more than a 15 minutes’ walk from a green space, so many already-developed areas where we need nature the most simply don’t have the room. In this episode we discuss why nature is so important for us and especially children, how greenery can add value in business terms and where we’re missing the potential in the city.

Joined by GI and Biodiversity Specialist from AECOM, Ash Welch, we discuss the key factors for a succesful project that positively impacts biodiversity and meets regulations surrounding developments (Biodiversity Net Gain). This is a really helpful episode for architects and developers to gain a better understanding of how we can effectively integrate green infrastructure solutions into our projects without losing precious development space (whilst hitting the BNG targets).
Ash uses an interesting case study in London to illustrate the point, a useful example for all urban developers.
