Join The SoCal Sound's Lesley James in conversation with Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C.!
In the interview, Lesley chats with bassist Conor Deegan 'Deego' III & guitarist Conor Curley. When asked about winning NME's award for Best Band in the World, the pair joke about possibly using it to get street cred back in their hometown.
Deego & Curley discuss the new album 'Skinty Fia,' telling a funny story about the breakdown in the song "I Love You," their musical influences, how the record got its name, and its connection to Irish-speaking heritage. They recently relocated from their home base in Dublin to London to work on 'Skinty Fia;' Reflecting on how that's impacted them & the album; Deego remarked, "Well, we kind of became more displaced again from Irishness. Suddenly we're forced to confront our Irishness in a different way than if you lived in Dublin. Suddenly it was the thing that made us different, rather than the thing that brought us together with people; And being Irish in Britain is a very different experience, and that's a lot of what the record is about."
They also talk about dealing with mental health on the road while touring non-stop and the guilt that can come with confronting mental health struggles while living out their dream.
Make sure to listen to the entire interview to learn about what exciting new acts out of Ireland they recommend you check out!

Join The SoCal Sound's Program Director, Marc "Mookie" Kaczor, in conversation with musician, radio host, and published author Cliff Beach!

He explains the process of getting that job and his experience working on the show.
When asked about the inspiration behind his new book 'Side Hustle & Flow,' Cliff Beach said, "I just wanted people to be inspired by myself - you know, as the guinea pig going through the trenches. Everything I did was trial and error. I didn't have any major connections or anything. It's always like a cold email. A cold call. Who do you know? Who do you know to know someone… You just have to learn that's pretty much the only way to survive, to thrive, to be able to grow in this industry."

Join The SoCal Sound's Midday host Julie Slater in conversation with singer-songwriter and creator of Mumford & Sons, Marcus Mumford!
In this interview, Marcus Mumford reflects on key differences between growing as a solo artist versus being in a band and how he balances doing both at the same time. He dives deeper into this topic by telling us about his newest project '(self-titled),' including the overarching theme, his experience working with other artists like Phoebe Bridgers on it, and what impact the album has left on listeners. Additionally, Mumford tells us what writing the score and theme for the award-winning show Ted Lasso was like.
When it comes to his solo career, Mumford says, "It's really different. It's made me admire artists who are in bands and have solo careers cause it's a lot to get your head around. Like once you're in the band mentality, this could be a good and bad thing, you kind of strap in for the ride, and you kind of go wherever the big machine you created takes you. What I'm learning with this solo stuff it all falls on you."

In this Hear at Home interview, The SoCal Sound's Midday host, Julie Slater, chats with British musician and son of the legendary John Lennon, Julian Lennon!
Lennon discusses his upcoming album 'Jude' (set for release on September 9 via BMG), including details about the approach of incorporating previously written songs and the choice behind the album's title. Additionally, he touches on how the lockdown altered his perception of life, driving him to put together this project.
To summarize the album, Lennon states, "... it's a culmination of 30 years of work. The subject matter is pretty much identical throughout the years, which is the weird thing. It's all (about) searching, looking inside. Either on a personal level or globally about finding answers. What shocked me is that we're still asking the same questions as we were 30 years ago."
