Freedom in Christ | Galatians 4:21–5:15
In this powerful section of Galatians, Paul contrasts slavery under the law with the freedom found in Christ. Using the story of Hagar and Sarah, he shows that believers are not children of slavery but of promise. In chapter 5, he urges us to stand firm in that freedom and not return to legalism. True faith expresses itself through love—not rule-keeping. Join us as we explore what it means to live free, walk by the Spirit, and love well.
In this sermon, we delve into Galatians 4:8-20, where the Apostle Paul expresses deep concern for the Galatian believers who are reverting to legalistic practices after embracing the freedom found in Christ. Paul reminds them of their past enslavement to false gods and questions their desire to return to “weak and worthless elementary principles” (Galatians 4:9). He appeals to their shared history, recalling how they once welcomed him despite his physical ailments, and expresses his perplexity over their shift in allegiance. This message emphasizes the importance of remaining steadfast in the liberty granted through faith in Jesus, cautioning against the allure of legalism and highlighting the transformative power of divine grace.

In this episode, we dive into the powerful and emotional story found in 1 Kings 19. The chapter highlights the prophet Elijah, a man of great faith who had just witnessed God's mighty power on Mount Carmel, where he defeated the prophets of Baal. Despite this victory, Elijah soon finds himself in a dark place, fleeing for his life from Queen Jezebel's wrath and sinking into a deep despair.
We explore Elijah's journey into the wilderness, where, in his exhaustion and fear, he cries out to God, expressing his desire to give up. This moment of vulnerability shows us that even the most faithful can experience moments of weakness and doubt. But God doesn’t abandon Elijah in his despair. Instead, He meets him in a surprising way—not through a powerful wind, an earthquake, or a fire, but in a gentle whisper.

- Instantaneous Transformation: Believing that spiritual growth results in an immediate, complete transformation. In reality, it often involves gradual and ongoing development.
- Exemption from Challenges: Thinking that spiritual growth means a life free from difficulties or challenges. In truth, Christians, like everyone else, face trials, but spiritual growth provides a framework for navigating them.
- One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Assuming there's a universal formula for spiritual growth that applies to everyone. Individuals may have different paths and experiences in their journey. (explain….there are foundational disciplines)
- Performance-Based Approval: Believing that spiritual growth is primarily about adhering to a set of rules and gaining approval through good behavior, rather than understanding it as a relationship with God.
- External Conformity: Focusing on outward appearances or religious rituals as indicators of spiritual maturity, without considering the internal transformation of the heart.
- Knowledge Equals Maturity: Equating the accumulation of theological knowledge with spiritual maturity. While knowledge is valuable, true growth involves its practical application in one's life.
- Isolation from the World: Thinking that spiritual growth requires complete separation from the secular world. The Bible encourages engagement with the world while maintaining one's faith.
- Comparative Spirituality: Measuring one's spiritual growth solely by comparing it to others, rather than focusing on personal progress and the unique journey with God.
