Bailey Bates rose to the occasion at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, seizing her last chance of the ProRodeo regular season to earn $34,978 and climb from No. 19 to No. 12 in the WPRA World Standings—securing her first career NFBR qualification.

Bates entered Sioux Falls outside the Top 15 and opened with a no-time that nearly ended her season. Instead of folding, she regrouped for a 2.7-second run, added a 2.6 in the semifinals, and capped the weekend with a blistering 2.1 in the finals. The comeback vaulted her into Vegas for the first time.

Spring has been a whirlwind between the ProRodeo race and fun one-offs like The American Rodeo and Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo.
In April, the world watched Shane Hanchey and Kincade Henry tie for the win in the 10-man round of The American with a 7.58-second run. The 2013 world champion took the title, however, after a 6.73 in the finals to give Hanchey his second American Rodeo title and $100,000.
Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo took Arlington, Texas, by storm for the second year in a row May 17, 2025. When the dust settled, team Jokers--led by legends Joe Beaver and Sid Steiner--took the overall team title with John Douch and Haven Meged to help.

Bailey Bates got the big Texas Swing ProRodeo win she was looking for at the 2025 San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo with three 1.9-second runs worth a total of $10,217.
The win was a sigh of relief following a winter rodeo season that saw her come close to the big paychecks but barely miss out. The earnings coupled with her No. 18 finish in the 2024 ProRodeo standings are fueling Bates to push to greater heights as the rodeo season enters the spring.

Ponoka’s Macy Auclair is slated to make her debut at Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo on May 16 in AT&T Stadium on Cody Ohl’s team “Convoy.”
Auclair has always been a gamer, but her skill was on full display at the 2024 Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR), where she broke the Canadian record with a 1.5-second run in Round 3, and finished the Finals as the aggregate champion with a time of 11.1 seconds on five head.
That performance—coupled with the knowledge and coaching Ohl had already poured into the 22-year-old cowgirl—made her an ideal Convoy teammate. She’ll be breakaway roping alongside fellow Northerner Shelby (Boisjoli) Meged.

Josie Conner is $100,000 richer thanks to a 1.89-second run that clinched the win at The American Rodeo on Saturday, April 12, 2025, marking her sixth trip to the prestigious event.
The victory came as Conner’s second win of the day, following a 1.99-second run in the Round of 10 with 2024 Horse of the Year Stylish Drifter, known as “Dutch.” That run broke the 2-second mark for the first time on Saturday.
“This rodeo is incredible and one I’ve always tried to win,” said Conner, 21. “I’ve been coming since I was 15 in 2019. This is an amazing payday and an amazing rodeo.”

As we send off 2024, we wrap up the 2024 NFR round winner episodes of The Tie-Down Breakdown.
Round 8 saw the first split round win of the 2024 NFR in the tie-down roping with Marty Yates and Ty Harris taking the win. Yates tied his calf in 7.3 seconds to take the lead in the round, and three runs later Harris joined him with his own 7.3. They both pocketed $30,155, and they join The Tie-Down Breakdown to walk through their runs.

The halfway point of the 2024 NFR has officially come and gone as we enter Round 7. In Round 5, NFR rookie Joel Braden Harris topped the field for his first-ever NFR go-round win. Harris, the younger brother to six-time NFR tie-down roper Ty, won the round with a 7.6-second run for $33,687.18.
Round 6 saw the comeback of 2019 World Champion Haven Meged. Meged won the round with a 6.9-second run, also for $33,687.18. On this episode of The Tie-Down Breakdown, we hear from both the Rounds 5 and 6 winners.

Tom Crouse kicked off his 2025 ProRodeo season in a major way, winning the historic Cinch Roping Fiesta Oct. 27, 2024, for a total of $10,993.
Crouse, a 23-year-old from Gallatin, Missouri, roped three calves in 32.2 seconds on the cowboy setup to take the coveted win and give him an early boost in the 2025 world standings. After finishing 27th in the 2024 PRCA world standings, Crouse has set himself up for the new year. Josie Conner's "Dutch" was overwhelmingly voted 2024 Breakaway Horse of the Year—and with good reason. From the moment the summer run started, Josie and Dutch began collecting ProRodeo checks, moving themselves into the No. 1 position in the Breakaway World Standings by late August.

Madison Outhier is the definition of cowgirl tough following a scary horse accident that saw her mare come over backwards on her in the asphalt parking lot at the Days of '47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City.
In an interview on The Breakdown Podcast, Outhier detailed the series of events that led to the fateful incident on July 18, 2024.
A broken collarbone, fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, and a lacerated liver were among the injuries Outhier sustained. Despite the severity she remained conscious following the accident, supported by fellow rodeo competitors who quickly came to her aid including Marty Yates and ICU nurse Tacy Webb.

Cole Clemons is staring down his first NFR qualification, and he's just a PRCA rookie.

Reigning Breakaway World Champion Shelby Boisjoli-Meged clinched her first-ever Cheyenne Frontier Days Championship with a 3.7-second run on 2x Horse of the Year No Wimpy Turns, known as "Onna."
A $16,280 payday at Cheyenne broke the dry spell in Meged's summer run, which has seen her catch calves for small checks or "miss them for a lot of money." Meged says this win has given her confidence a boost—and she's ready to tackle the second half of the summer run.
As of Aug. 6, 2024, Meged is sitting No. 3 in the WPRA World Standings with $94,961.

Between the overall win and a round win, Mattson left Colorado Springs with $16,750.

The Huber name is famous in the Great Lakes Circuit as father and son Bill and Cody Huber have both built legendary careers there.
Bill, a two-time NFR qualifier, is a PRCA circuit system legend holding 29 Great Lakes Circuit titles, 22 in the tie-down roping alone, 17 of which were consecutive from 1986-2002. He's also the 2002 Dodge Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo champion. Gio Piloto grew up in Botucatu, San Paulo, Brazil, with a love for horses, and now he's chasing the 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year title.
The now 24-year-old moved to the United States back in 2019 to become a professional tie-down roper, learning from some of the best like Blair Burk, Shane Hanchey and Marcos Costa. Amy Wilson is a well-known face in Western media circles for her 11-year career on television and radio. But Wilson's road to media royalty wasn't as easy as one would think.
Crowned Miss Rodeo America, Amy spent a year being the face of the rodeo industry before returning home to work three jobs while searching for a new opportunity promoting rodeo and agriculture. After constantly putting herself out there, she was hired on by RFD-TV and moved to Omaha.
Fast forward more than a decade and Wilson has taken the next step in her career—becoming the Western Sports Media Manager for Equine Network. In this new role, Wilson will manage relationships with partners that stream events through Equine Network, commentate alongside Dru Stewart at events and network among the Western industry for new partnership opportunities.

Dylan Hancock notched the biggest win of his career so far taking home the 2024 San Angelo Rodeo title, a win even more important as it's his hometown rodeo.
Hancock, the reigning Resistol Rookie of the Year All-Around Cowboy and Tie-Down Roper, entered the short round April 19, ninth in the average. After winning the short round with a 7.8-second run, Hancock secured the average win with a 24.9 on three calves to take home $12,472 between the short round win and average title.

Calf pushers are some of the most important yet unrecognized helpers in the sport of rodeo. Desmon “Dez” Johnson just might be the most famous calf pusher in the industry, and while he's a respected household name, there's a chance spectators have never heard of him.
Johnson was the official calf pusher at the 2022 and 2023 NFBRs at the Southpoint Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he also frequently works Joe Beaver’s junior ropings. The Huntsville, Texas, native has one of the hardest jobs in the sport.

Hughes is a three-time NFR tie-down roper from Caldwell, Texas. He won Rodeo Austin with a 24.3 on three calves and pocketed $14,875 during his trip, m oving him from 27th in the PRCA world standings to 10th. Hughes adds the Rodeo Austin title to his lengthy list of wins, which includes the 2023 Fort Worth title and 2021 San Angelo title, as well as the 2016 Resistol Rookie of the Year title. Hughes is known for his hustle as he is so fast on the ground, but the 26-year-old has also battled numerous injuries over his career.

Shelby Boisjoli entered the 2021 NFBR No. 1 in the world but just couldn't clinch the world title. She finally got redemption, though, this year, being crowned the 2023 Breakaway Roping World Champion after 10 rounds in Las Vegas.
Three-time NFBR qualifier Cheyanne McCartney was hunting for an average title, and that's exactly what she accomplished. McCartney roped nine of 10 calves in 32.2 seconds and took home a total of $24,581 in Las Vegas to win the 2023 NFBR average title.

At just 18 years old, Josie Conner has many titles to her name, and on April 5, she added BFI All-Girl Champion to her resume. Conner's aggregate time of 12.59 seconds on three head was good enough to win $11,000 at the BFI. Outhier showed up and showed out in the final round of the Women’s Rodeo World Championship in the South Point Arena on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 in Las Vegas where she blitzed a quick 1.91-second run to win in the final performance and take home her second consecutive WRWC Breakaway Roping World Title and a paycheck for $60,000.
The Canadian cowgirl, Shelby Boisjoli, secured the Women’s Rodeo World Championship All-Around Title with team roping and breakaway roping points, taking top honors at the event held Oct. 27–29, 2021, in Las Vegas’s South Point Arena. Bosjoli, who won second in the breakaway roping worth $20,000 itself with a 2.02 second run and fourth in the team roping with a 11.56-second run, finished out the week with a 120.75-point lead on Whitney DeSalvo (her team roping partner) with a total of 1,493.5 points to earn herself the WRWC All-Around title and a $20,000 bonus. Boisjoli walks away from the ground-breaking event with a whopping $56,966.67.
