Mysteries Beyond podcast was created to help in the bringing together of other open-minded like individuals. Together we can continue to learn from each other and further expand our knowledge on many topics all ranging from: the paranormal, sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming, out of body experiences (OBE's), magick, the occult, spirituality, and more. Its name was inspired from a quote in the 2016 Doctor Strange film, "What mysteries lie beyond the reach of our senses?" What comes to mind when you hear the words voodoo or hoodoo? Is it witchcraft? Dark forces? Voodoo Dolls and/or possession? It wouldn't surprise me if those are the first thoughts that come to mind. It is actually two separate and distinct spiritual practices. Voodoo is an actual practiced religion and Hoodoo, also known as root work, is a spiritual practice which deals more with the botanical side and other natural objects. Usually, Hoodoo is used for protection, luck and love spells. Both, however, are African-American spiritual practices. Why then, is it viewed by many as evil and harmful? Throughout time and across the world, the mention of shapeshifters has always been around. The concept of beings who are able to transform into animals is certainly nothing new. In the Native-American lore there exist such beings known as Skinwalkers. These malevolent creatures are known to have the ability to shapeshift at will into animals such as wolves, coyotes and foxes to simply name a few. Aside from shapeshifting they can also mimic voices and animal cries to lure their prey, they can take on human possession and are the cause of nightmares. They are definitely a taboo topic that is rarely spoken about in the native tribes and collecting additional information regarding them is challenging. How could an exorcism possibly get any worse? Well there's always that possibility of death. Exorcisms are dangerous because of the physical and/or mental extremes the victim undergoes. Sometimes that can consist of being tied down, beaten and starved. The situation can escalate and become violent rather quickly. The scariest part of it all is not so much the demons that are being casted out it's the people involved in the ritual. In this episode we will take a look at two different cases involving possession both, however, equally disturbing.

Father Gabriele Amorth was without doubt the most famous exorcist of the modern era. As he was both controversial and known as the Pope's Exorcist. He advocated for the necessity of exorcisms and by his account had performed over 100,000 of them. In this episode we will go over a little bit of his journey that led him to the path of becoming the Pope's Exorcist and we will go over what defines an exorcism and the different types that the Catholic Church acknowledges. Throughout history witchcraft has always been perceived as an evil practice. It is an artform only practiced and/or performed by those who dwell in sin. As society "progressed" there came about precautions that one could look to in order to protect them from the witches' dark arts. So it was handy for both the government and church to have a sort of guide/manual that one could use to convict women of being witches. It was then where the Malleus Maleficarum was created and introduced. This book offered ways in how to identify, interrogate and convict the witches of their time. Almost everyone has heard about the legend of Bloody Mary which can be summoned through your bathroom mirror. It a very popular "game" to play amongst children especially during sleep overs. Legend has it though, that if you are brave enough to go through with this ritual she will appear to you in the reflection of your mirror. Amulets and Talismans are magickal tools that most of us wear, carry with and/or place around the house to ward off evil spirits, harm and illnesses and to attract success and/or blessings. Psychic attack is another name given to “negative” energy being directed towards and/or focused on you. It can take place on a physical, mental and emotional level. Jinxes, hexes and curses are certainly a form of psychic attacks. Although there are many complicated rituals and preparations one can do to ensure the psychic attack does carry out, it can be as simple as a thought and intention. At one point or another I’m sure we’ve all experienced that feeling of wanting to embody “Karma” and take matters into our own hands to get even with someone we felt had wronged us. There are also those who intentionally choose to perform magickal operations to cause harm and/or misfortune upon others whom they feel they deserve it. Whether it be through a jinx, hex and/or curse these practices are all a form of baneful magick. Are demons entirely evil? The answer to that question depends on your perspective as the concepts of "good and evil" are entirely man made. Demons are both external energies and aspects of our consciousness. They also, transcend those man made ideas and certainly do not abide by them. Lamashtu was once a Mesopotamian goddess who was later more well known as a child killing demon. She was said to be evil towards mostly woman and babies as she would prevent women from having children and make pregnant woman have miscarriages. She is known to steal infants from their mothers as they breast feed and to be the cause of nightmares, sleep paralysis and men's night emissions. Most mythologies are stories that come from the ancient world. As we continue to explore these tales, interestingly enough, we'll find that many of them cross over to other mythologies, cultures and religions. As we travel they are carried to new places where they are adopted, but there seems to be a parallel across the world with the mythology and stories of creation. At the basis of it all these tales are recounted to help us make sense of the world around us and to both explain and fill that spiritual side of us that so many of us can feel. Amaterasu is the Japanese goddess of the sun and is a prominent deity in the Shinto faith of Japan. Through her origin story we'll notice there are many similarities to Egyptian and Greek mythologies and also to a biblical story involving Jesus Christ. Unicorns are magical mythical creatures that have fascinated mankind for centuries. To this day, it seems we are bombarded with unicorn imagery everywhere we go. We have emojis, t-shirts, key chains, stuffed animals, and even drinks named after them. In ancient times, the first mention of them was said to have appeared in Mesopotamian artwork and later referenced in mythologies across the world in places including China, India and Japan. Many people erroneously confuse the terms of demonologist and demonolator and use them interchangeably. One is the study of demons throughout history and across every culture and the other is the worship of demons. To the devoutly religious, the study of demons is just as important as it is to a demonologist because understanding the nature of demons can help a person protect themselves from their influence. Many people who follow the Right Hand Path, are not even aware they are doing so until they realize that the Left Hand Path exists. One of the most common misconceptions about the LHP comes from Christianity (no surprise there), where instead of acknowledging it is an approach to divinity, it is perceived as more of a philosophy as good v. evil and/or right v. wrong. Therefore, rather than Satan being viewed as a necessary aspect of divinity, he is seen as the opposite of God. The Right Hand Path and/or the Left Hand Path's objective is the same; it is to reach greater wisdom, higher levels of consciousness and ultimately enlightenment. Joseph Campbell who was an American author, but was also well known as one of the greatest mythologist in the 20th century, noticed that all myths shared a common pattern which he coined as, "The Myth of the Hero's Journey". Along with psychologist Carl Jung, Campbell believed that the reason such similarities between cultures separated between space and time arose was because they emerged from the collective unconscious. The dark masculine, like the dark feminine archetype has also been misconstrued. Many believe that the dark masculine is filled with "toxic" traits or that he is evil and/or a villain when in fact he is not. The dark masculine does embody the traits of being assertive, dominant, aggressive, sexually confident, grounded, logical, intellectual, can produce and provide. Kali, also known as Kali Ma (Mother of Darkness) is often viewed by those who know nothing about her as an evil goddess. She is one of the most misunderstood figures and the depictions of her don't seem to help her cause. When you pull up her images on a search engine you will find her painted as a black (most commonly blue) woman wearing the severed heads of those she has slayed as a neckless, a skirt made out of limbs, and sticking a bloody tongue out while stomping on a living being. The topic of death can make many people feel uncomfortable and in most cases were are shielded from it even though it is a natural occurrence. In the U.S. we practice something called embalming which is done to preserve the deceased body temporarily in time for the viewing. We embalm bodies and put make-up on the dead all to give the appearance that they are simply "sleeping" peacefully. What happens to us after we die? Some believe we cease to exist, others believe we return back to source, but the majority of people believe we either go to Heaven or Hell. The Fibonacci Sequence is a series of numbers that are a result from adding the sum to the preceding number. For example 0+1=1; 1+1=2; 1+2=3; 2+3=5; 3+5=8; 5+8=13 and so on. The Golden Ratio is when we divide those Fibonacci numbers (Ex: 5/3= 1.6 and/or 8/5=1.6) to get that ratio of 1:1.6. When applied as a growth factor it creates a "Golden Spiral" and creates sacred geometry. It can be found everywhere in the universe, you cannot escape it! Is time an illusion? There are several different ways we can approach this question. We can look at mythology into the stories of Kronos, also known as Saturn and Father Time, as well as the Hindu Goddess Kali, who ruled over power, destruction and time. Which can then prompt us into looking at the Hindu belief of the Kali Yuga, the fourth and last world age in a Yuga cycle that deals with sin and destruction. Perhaps we might be more inclined to take a look at time in a more scientific manner through Einstein's theory of relativity. Or to better help us understand the concept of time we can take the Esoteric approach, which happens to be my favorite. Having been inspired after talking about the different traditions practiced all over the world with the underlying theme of death on a recent episode of The Secret Teachings with Ryan Gable, there was one that caught my attention. That is the East Asian tradition of The Hungry Ghost Festival. Similar to Día De Los Muertos, many Taoist and Buddhist celebrate what is known as The Hungry Ghost Festival to honor and remember the dead. It is said that during this time the both the gates of Heaven and Hell are opened and the spirits are allowed to roam the Earth. There are many different classifications of demons by many different scholars, but this is just one by German bishop Peter Binsfeld. Recently, Netflix released a new series titled, "The Sandman" which in turn inspired me to create an episode on who he is. In this episode we will talk about the Greek God of Dreams - Morpheus. He was the leader of the Oneiroi (dream spirits) who was extremely skilled at transforming and imitating humans and their form. In one story told, he was tasked to deliver the unfortunate message to Alcyone (through a dream), that her husband Ceyx had died. The Sandman who has similar qualities, was originally known to be a good being who had the power to make you fall into a deep sleep and offered you pleasant dreams. It wasn't until 1816, where he was reimagined to be an evil and scary being. Join us as we dive a little deeper into this topic.

What is the Devil's Interval? Well in music theory it is also known as the augmented 4th and/or the diminished 5th, but it is basically a set of notes that are 3 whole notes apart that when played together creates dissonance. The sounds created are so distorted that it was rumored to have been banned by the Catholic church. A lot of blues music is composed this way and interestingly enough it is in a lot of popular music. You can find it in the intro to the Simpsons television series, in the Wandavision series by Disney, and in a few of Lady Gaga's songs, but the song titled "Judas" in particular. Many believe that playing these tones have the ability to summon the Devil and drive people to madness. Another term used to describe these notes is "Diabolus in Musica". Many people today have glamorized going through a spiritual awakening. They will tell you how wonderful it is, how amazing it is to be connected to source. Although it maybe, the initiation reaching that point, is not so much. The dark night of the soul is the process that leads you to a having a spiritual awakening. It is the darkness before the light. It is the alchemical ascension process where you undergo a transformation from lead into gold. Before you are turned into gold your consciousness must be disintegrated, purified, and put back together. Through this transformation, many people experience mixed emotions of depression, deceit, a sense of hopelessness, and loneliness. Is it possible to believe in God immensely to the point where someone could manifest in themselves the physical 5 Holly Wounds of Christ? Since the year 1224 there have been over 400 reported cases of Stigmata and many were found to be authentic. Many of those people reported to have had the nail wounds in both their feet and palms of the hands. Some report bleeding on specific feast such as Lent, Good Friday, and other holly days of prayer. Of course, in order for the Church to determine if the cases are authentic they developed a list of criteria that the stigmatic would have meet.
