In this episode, our guest Eduardo and Poum discuss the dangers of overly tying oneself to a movement or a political party. Poum challenges Eduardo on his proposed solutions to ensure that we do not fall into echo-chambers, whether it be in daily life or social media.
In this episode, guest speaker Karam tells us about his experience with numerous forms of hate speech at his high school. Then, the two discuss the gray area between free and hate speech and brainstorm possible ways to discourage hate speech while embracing free speech.
What does freedom mean to you? In this episode, our host Poum challenges and explores Leonard's vision for an educational system that provides more freedom and autonomy to students. They discuss topics ranging from the importance of promoting failure early on in a student’s education journey to the barriers schools face in giving students a high degree of autonomy. Breaking News! Skiing over 20 kilometers cross country only takes two weeks to learn! In this episode, Melvin, an alumni of UWC Red Cross Nordic talks about his favorite activity at UWC: Skiing. He recounts many thrilling details about his spontaneous adventures, and how such a "wild" activity was integral to his UWC experience.
In this episode, we feature Hamid, a UWC ISAK Alumnus Class of 2020. Hamid shares his life-changing experience in his quest to obtain his US VISA. He tells us how a sleepy driver nearly made him fall off a large cliff, how he attended a wedding of someone he never knew, and how he dealt with policemen watching his every move.
What could your gap year look like? Lucy (UWC ISAK Japan '20) from Denman Island, Canada shared about her gap year experiences. In particular, she talked about her various adventures to contribute to the eco-friendly movement. We were excited to hear how she had to spend nights alone on a stranded island which almost got submerged!
What does it mean to understand diversity? What kind of background does this person have behind his/her statements? Growing up in Japan, Takuto (UWC Adriatic, Italy '18) and Reina (UWC Mahindra College, India '20) have been deepening these questions throughout their time at UWC.
