Mr. Darcy represents to Elizabeth the strength of that attachment which, in spite of all his endeavors, he has found impossible to conquer; and expresses his hope that he would now be rewarded by her acceptance of his hand.

Mr. Darcy is the cause, his pride and caprice are the cause of all that Jane suffers. He has ruined for a while every hope of happiness for the most affectionate, generous heart in the world.

Charlotte watches Darcy whenever they are at Rosings, and whenever he comes to Hunsford; but without much success. He certainly looks at her friend a great deal, but the expression of that look is disputable. When Caroline visits Jane in London, she is in every respect so altered a creature, that when she went away, Jane is perfectly resolved to continue the acquaintance no longer. Mr. Wickham's apparent partiality to Elizabeth has subsided, his intentions are over, he is the admirer of someone else.

Mrs. Bennet has the pleasure of receiving her brother and his wife, the Gardiners. Mrs. Gardiner wonders if Jane would be prevailed on to go back to London with them. Change of scene might be of service—and perhaps a little relief from home, may be as useful as anything.
(For questions, comments, concerns, email us at secondimpressionspod@gmail.com)
Hope is over, entirely over. The more Elizabeth sees of the world, the more she is dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms her belief of the inconsistency of all human characters. But Mr. Wickham's society is of material service in dispelling the gloom.
(For questions, comments, concerns, email us at secondimpressionspod@gmail.com)
Day after day passes away without bringing any other tidings of Mr. Bingley than the report of his coming no more to Netherfield the whole winter; a report which Mrs. Bennet never fails to contradict as the most scandalous falsehood.
(For questions, comments, concerns, email us at secondimpressionspod@gmail.com)
The strangeness of Mr. Collins's making two offers of marriage within three days, is nothing in comparison of his being now accepted.
(For questions, comments, concerns, email us at secondimpressionspod@gmail.com)
A letter is delivered to Miss Jane Bennet. It expressly declares that Caroline Bingley neither expects nor wishes Jane to be her sister; that she is perfectly convinced of her brother's indifference, and that if she suspects the nature of Jane's feelings for him, she means (most kindly!) to put Jane on her guard. Can there be any other opinion on the subject?
(For questions, comments, concerns, email us at secondimpressionspod@gmail.com)
Mrs. Bennet tries to make Elizabeth know her own interest. Mr. Collins knows not whether Elizabeth would altogether be a very desirable wife to a man who naturally looks for happiness in the marriage state.

Mr. Collins assures Elizabeth in the most animated language of the violence of his affection.

The Netherfield ball is here. To Elizabeth it appears, that had her family made an agreement to expose themselves as much as they could during the evening, it would have been impossible for them to play their parts with more spirit, or finer success.

Jane knows not how to believe that Mr. Darcy could be so unworthy of Mr. Bingley's regard. Mr. Bingley and his sisters give their personal invitation for the long expected ball at Netherfield.

Elizabeth's curiosity about the history of Mr. Wickham's acquaintance with Mr. Darcy is unexpectedly relieved, as Mr. Wickham begins the subject himself.

Mr. Bennet thinks it time to have some conversation with his guest. By tea-time however the dose had been enough.
Mr. Collins, who, when Mr. Bennet is dead, may turn all his daughters out of the house as soon as he pleases, comes to Longbourn prepared to admire his fair cousins.
Mr. Bingley is full of joy and attention for Jane. Miss Bingley invites Elizabeth to take a turn about the room. Mr. Darcy can imagine but two motives for their choosing to walk up and down the room together. (Spoilers for later plot points during 01:05-03:07)
Mr. Darcy has never been so bewitched by any woman as he is by Elizabeth. He really believes, that were it not for the inferiority of her connections, he should be in some danger. (Spoilers for later plot points during 42:09-44:16)
On seeing that Jane's illness is not alarming, Mrs. Bennet has no wish of her recovering immediately. Elizabeth wonders who first discovered the efficacy of poetry in driving away love. Lydia taxes Mr. Bingley with having promised to give a ball at Netherfield.
Mr. Darcy cannot boast of knowing more than half a dozen women, in the whole range of his acquaintance, that are really accomplished. Elizabeth, having never seen such a woman as he describes, wonders at his knowing any.
Mrs. Bennet has a lucky idea. Jane finds herself very unwell. Mr. Bennet is comforted that if Jane should die, it was under Mrs. Bennet's orders. Elizabeth walks to Netherfield Park, where her appearance creates a great deal of surprise.
Charlotte warns that Mr. Bingley may never do more than like Jane if she does not help him on. Sir William is struck with the notion of doing a very gallant thing. Mr. Darcy meditates on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes can bestow.
That the Miss Lucases and the Miss Bennets should meet to talk over a ball is absolutely necessary.
Elizabeth gives Jane leave to like Mr. Bingley—Jane has certainly liked many a stupider person. Mr. Bingley feels authorized to think of Jane as he chooses.
Jane is the most beautiful creature Mr. Bingley has ever beheld. Elizabeth is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt Mr. Darcy. If only Mr. Bennet had been there to give him one of his set downs.
Kitty has no discretions in her coughs, Mary wishes to say something sensible, and it is not so pleasant at Mrs. Bennet's age to be making new acquaintance every day.
