Today I wanted to talk about those dreaded waiting periods of life (when God hasn’t said yes or no)…we are just kind of waiting for that green light. So this could be in business, a relationship, pregnancy, a job, a big move or calling or something we’ve been praying to God about for a while. I want to give you encouragement with whatever you're walking through and remind you of what I've been reminded of lately...God's timing is everything.

We're talking about how to keep going when we want to give up. The world is very good at having us believe that is something is uncomfortable, not serving us, not pleasurable or making us unhappy that we should bail. But obedience isn’t always a comfy thing, it’s not always an enjoyable thing but it's crucial in our walk with Christ. I pray this episode brings encouragement in whatever you're going through and please join me in celebrating our 100th episode!

First, you're not alone, this world breeds chaos. From what's happening in our homes to out the front door, we are constantly surrounded by things out of our control and a deep desire to fix it and have things in order. We were made into it and for it, but sin distorted it. Thankfully this side of eternity we can cling to Jesus and the Holy Spirit when chaos comes. We can trust in the one who created order, gives peace and someday soon will make all things new.
We aren’t supposed to be happy all the time, we aren’t supposed to be positive or productive all the time. Self-help isn’t helpful – because it’s not realistic. And it’s a heck of distraction from reality. Let's talk about it and some Biblical encouragement on this week's episode.
We're back you all! I'm so excited to be returning to the Life In Orbit podcast, with clarity and confidence that I'm probably going to mess this up again in the future...and that's ok. The most important take away is that God is good, all the time. Let's orbit together!
It's way more common than you think. Anxiety is felt by many people and in many different ways. This episode let's talk about it. What causes it, what the Bible says about it and we have 6 practical steps to move forward. I personally struggle with anxiety and I would love to share my story. I pray this encourages and gives you the tools you need to center even this area / habits in orbit to Christ.
Sharon Miller joins the Life in Orbit podcast and shares her new book, The Cost of Control. Sharon helps us discover the real power God has given us in Christ, to exercise influence over ourselves and our lives. We break down the cost of control, why we crave it, the anxiety it gives and the real power God promises us.
“Everywhere I looked, I saw anxiety, I saw it in the people in our church, I saw it on social media, I saw it in our politics, I saw it on the news. And once I saw it, I couldn’t unsee it, so I wanted to understand what was going on and trace the threads back to what it all meant. When the pandemic robbed us of certainty and predictability, it laid bare an idol that had been strangling us, invisibly, for years. Why is our culture chronically anxious? One major factor is our relationship with control.” - Sharon Miller

Friendship and companionship, we were created for it and it's important in our relationships with each other and our relationship with God. We know the importance of good quality friendship, because God made us for community. He didn’t make us to be alone.
Let's talk about friends, the importance of this area and as always central focusing it around God. It may be awkward, but I promise it's worth it.
This is my personal faith story. This is my testimony, and the reason I am a follower of Jesus Christ. Join me in a story about grace, forgiveness, love and seeing Jesus Christ in the faces of people.

When we live with a tight grip on our money for things like stability we are actually taking control…of our life. Jesus wants to be as involved with your financial life as much as He does in every category. Always let the bible be your compass, always center your life on Him and His definitions. As you grow in community with Him these things will become more clear and you will understand you truly have everything you need in Him and He will direct you with what to do with the rest. Get ready for some financial encouragement and how to start approaching our relationship with money in light of Christ.

We work out because we can, our bodies were designed to move! Our joy isn’t linked in our bodies but in Christ and when we view exercise as a way to spend time with Him, we are free of the worldly constraints of exercise expectations and dare I say…we move…for fun.

We put things off. We say we don’t have time, we don't want to make time, we're overwhelmed, we just aren't feeling it. We continue to put it off until the last possible second. In our work, chores, trips to the dentist, reading our Bible...perhaps you're like me and you're a pro at procrastination.
Unfortunately in postponing things in life (whether out of stress or comfort) perhaps we are delaying something good OR making matters worse. Let's check in with this Biblically, get encouraged and take some action steps into the week to help us out!

🍋 Creating a water drinking habit can be perhaps difficult or let's be real...down right boring. For some reason drinking water is like the last thing we think of. (which is silly because we literally need it to live!) My theory is we just have too many other options. But what if we made the water drinking option more fun and beneficial? 🍓 Water is amazing! Fruits, herbs and veggies we infuse have health benefits. Viewing the time to prep and drink these fun waters can actually be a form of worship to Christ! Taking care of our bodies, stewarding resources well and prepping out for ourselves and maybe even the people we love.

These are 5 habits that changed my life. Some for just a season, some for years now and even ones that come and go and make a positive difference on a one-off day.
The key to habit building is consistency, but these 5 specific habits were more than beneficial - they changed my mindset and gave me good perspective on what matters. I truly believe if you work within one of these habits even if just for a day you’re going to feel so good, have your heart fixed on the right things and really start to care and nurture yourself and relationship with Christ.
Happy Habit Building!

In this a random, kind of spontaneous episode. But maybe it's the episode for you. I wanted to share the significance of our prayer life and honestly the necessity it is. How we can start to view this in invitation, not obligation is really understanding what it is and how valuable it is. Did you know we have direct access to God the father through Jesus Christ? Did you know it didn't always used to be that way. Let's talk about prayer, how we can model it and what Jesus says about it in the Bible.

Maybe you're like me and you walked through a weekend of tough conversations. Conflicting views, unintentional or intentional debates, confusion, uncertainty or straight up fear to speak / not speak.
Friend, this episode is for you. Showing up either online or in person and standing firm in what you believe is scary. This episode we are breaking down how to walk through this when we are operating from a place of fear, operating as a barer of fruit and most importantly how to handle what to say when it comes to our faith.
So let's be real, everything is looking more expensive in the store and at the gas pump. Let's talk about revisiting that budget. Spiritual warfare, it's real. Fighting unseen, daily. This is serious business. We're talking good vs evil. And although one side has already won over death and the grave, the other is going to spend YOUR whole life trying to convince YOU Jesus hasn't won. That it's not true and that you are powerless.
But don't be afraid. Stand firm. Trust God and put on that armor! This episode is full of encouragement and action steps to prepare you with God's help, for battle.
The ground, the earth, the grass. Although broken, fallen and distorted this side of eternity is still created with good design and purpose. The complexities of dirt and grass, all the organisms and benefits of touching our skin too that is really cool. Even better, when this is centered around Christ, this habit can be a game changer. I’ve always felt prayer and time with God reduced stress and anxiety in my own life and having dedicated time outside in nature I could see benefiting greatly. But today we are talking about the Venture category, our work life. Now this is more geared towards men and women and our roles when it comes to work within the family. This is something my husband and I have struggled with before because of how we were raised. But just like anything we are questioning, let's take it to the Bible. Because just like a lot of things in this sinful and distorted world, how we view this is important. When you see work through a biblical lens you can also see how the enemy is trying to attack and divide.

Today is an encouraging episode. We are talking about Energy (the food life category) and I wanted to talk about our relationship with food. How we view food. You can absolutely look at this area of your life as a way to walk in stewardship, obedience, worship and love. And relax, knowing food has no hold on you. In your life you may have a lot and you may have a little, it may be nutrient dense and it also may be lacking but our hope is not in what we eat, neither is our joy. Happy habit building!

So recently I've been doing a mini study on the theme of 'light' within the Bible. This sparked from the book of 1 John. I was reading through and came across a verse: 1 John 1:5 “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” This lead me down a cross-referencing path through my ESV Study Bible and let's just say this episode barely scratches the surface of this topic. There is so much conviction, hope and redemption in welcoming the light of God into our lives. So I hope this mini devotional blesses you and there are many more to come! Happy habit building!

This is the framework to creating and maintaining healthy habits. I was able to start a running habit, audio Bible habit, get in minerals and trust God in times of trouble. With these 4 simple and easy to apply steps I could approach habit building with a new lens and purpose. Life In Orbit we like to talk about how life isn't about balance but is instead an orbit, with God as the central pull to all areas of life. Not linking our hope, worth, identity in our seasons, circumstances or habits but instead rooting in a foundation in Christ.

Parenting has been so incredibly rewarding. But we all know sometimes it comes with challenges, but it's how we approach and handle those challenges that make a difference. From learning new things with every milestone, I've had a lot of instances where I need to adjust and have realistic expectations for my toddler. Allowing him to learn in his own way, with support and guidance. Yes letting him pour his own cereal is a mess, yes it’s very hard for me to not say “watch out” at every turn. But truthfully he needs to fall down, he needs to make mistakes. This is how kids learn and as soon as we come to terms with that as adults we can lower milestone expectations, rest and trust that what will be, will be. Providing resources, support and love and as always centering this life area of parenting around Christ.

Talk about celebration! So i decided to run a 5k for my 30th birthday. Yes, of all the things I could've done on my birthday I chose cardio. But hey listen, it was more than just a run for me. I really wanted to celebrate the body God gave me and use this 3.1 mile run as an opportunity to hang out with Jesus in stewardship, obedience, worship and love. Something I discovered when creating my first ever running habit years back was when we focus areas of life around God instead of ourselves, something amazing happens. We show up differently, we become consistent. Not because we are looking to get something out of it but because we are able to build a relationship with Christ even here. In these small moments in life, that make big waves for eternity. So whether you looking to run 1 mile or 21, this episode is sure to have some helpful action steps and encouragement to get you started!
Spending money before you have the money in hand. From credit cards, to calculating money coming in. This mindset of spending before I have the money has landed me in a lot of trouble when it comes to debt, stress or having massive spenders guilt. It keep my husband and I in an endless cycle of living paycheck to paycheck for a long time. And honestly, even now as a freelancer it's been tricking tracking money coming in and out. I hope this sheds some light on the dangers of spending money we don't have in hand yet and also being an encouragement for you. Knowing you are not alone, Jesus can help (yes, even in this area) and through repentance we can be free of the sin and shame. Learning to steward our money and resources wisely and move about our spending with intentionality and not whipped around by our impulses or emotions.

Magnesium is an important mineral! It’s great for bone health, preventing disease, helps your migraines, good for cardiovascular health, pms, anxiety. It plays such an important role in your health and your mood. BUT you want to know what depletes this awesome mineral in your body? Stress. So it's safe to say we should all be paying just a touch more attention to this handy mineral. :) But it’s not just "being stressed," it’s also exercising, fasting, high blood sugar, insulin resistance, sleep deprivation or even feeling anxious, this burns magnesium at a higher rate in your body. And we just talked about the benefits and importance of this mineral, so it’s probably a good idea to keep it around. But maybe you’re like me. The supplements and vitamins world seems intimidating. Let's unplug from social media! I can't be the only one thinking and feeling off when I consume too much social media. We talk all the time about our desire to grow closer to Christ but are we actually creating time for Him? I know scrolling social media has become a habit for me and unfortunately an idol. So my solution has been fasting. I'm not asking for anything radical, but I am challenging you to take it one day at a time and stay off social for 1 whole day and see how you feel. Mentally, spiritually and in relation with Jesus. Keep at it and there could be a habit that could flow into more than just 1 day.

Let go of the control. This coming from a person who unplugs toasters and never lets my husband drive the car. I have my fair share of 'control freak' moments. I stress myself out over situations and scenarios (frankly out of my control anyway.) What if I told you it didn't have to be this way? What if I told you I was getting better in loosening my grip and it's all thanks to God! There are things we can't explain in this world. There are things we cannot fix or prevent. So why are we letting this run our lives? Why aren't we choosing to rest in Christ? God is holy. Jesus is on the throne. Nothing shocks God, everything is in His perfect control. He's the one that's ultimately going to give us rest, peace and trust in Him. We can build habit here of daily dependance. We can keep coming back with consistency, knowing this make take time but with God's help anything is possible. He desires us to trust and rest in Him. We all know the importance of connecting and maintaining relationships. It's crucial for the human life. We know this right? We are coming out of a couple difficult years of isolation. It's so important to check in on people and create meaningful, intentional conversation. But trust me I'll be the first to say...life gets busy. We talk to the same 5 people every week and don't check up on our neighbors, coworkers or people we maybe don't agree with. We get in our little bubbles and never branch out into different friend groups or into the community. Don't get me wrong, the purpose of the orbit is focusing on the right things at the right times and if you're walking through a specific season that makes it challenging to build or maintain relationship (i get that) but don't underestimate the power of a small text or gesture. If this is a seasonally appropriate orbit for you, let's work on it with intentionality and as always, Christ central focused. This life category can be light, fun, easy and creative. Let's be honest, sometimes it's hard to make time to read our Bibles. That doesn't make us bad Christians, maybe we just need to approach this area in a different way.
Firstly, I want to encourage you to view this as an invitation into a relationship with God, not an obligation or something to check off. If physically sitting down isn't seasonally realistic for you right now, it's ok! Being a mom of a toddler, trust me I know our hours are stretched. Here me out though, we shouldn't get discouraged because it doesn't look perfect. We can use resources right now, today, that are realistic for our seasons.
This episode we are focusing on creating a habit of listening to our Bibles. My audio Bible gave me the opportunity to hear it from another angle, listen to books I had never read, understand the Bible as a whole, pick up on patterns and build a habit that I've maintained for years.
