Ashley's journey is not just about building a successful business; it's about creating a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly women entrepreneurs.
The Heart Behind the BrandAshley emphasizes that her identity extends beyond her roles as a business owner, wife, and mother. At her core, she aims to leave a positive mark on everyone she encounters, whether personally or professionally. In the podcast episode, Angie M. Jordan takes over More Than a Brand and interviews Lindsay so the audience can get to know her more. Lindsay and Angie discussed the importance of being authentic and transparent about struggles and imperfections. Lindsay shared personal stories about her journey, including mistakes she made in her business, like forgetting to print addresses on wedding invitations. Despite the mishap, Lindsay highlighted the valuable lesson she learned from the experience - the importance of having a process and being organized to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
The conversation emphasized that everyone faces challenges and makes mistakes, even successful entrepreneurs. By sharing these stories openly, it helps others feel less alone in their own journeys. Angie mentioned a prominent entrepreneur who appeared successful from the outside but had faced numerous setbacks and challenges in building their business. The key takeaway from the episode is that authenticity and transparency in sharing struggles can create a sense of connection and relatability with others. By being open about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, individuals can inspire and support each other through shared experiences. This approach fosters a community where individuals feel understood, validated, and encouraged to keep moving forward despite setbacks. In this episode of "More Than a Brand," I had the pleasure of hosting Patrice Brown, a master stylist and colorist, who I fondly refer to as the "abstract visionary." This episode marks a special occasion as it is our first time recording in person with two people in the same room.
We began by discussing Patrice's unique approach to hairstyling and her commitment to educating her clients about proper hair care. Patrice shared her journey of self-discovery, emphasizing the importance of identifying who she is beyond her professional titles. She spoke about her healing process, which includes daily meditation and shadow work, and how these practices have helped her become more self-aware.
Our conversation took an interesting turn as we delved into the challenges of unlearning ingrained behaviors, especially those rooted in our upbringing in the Bible Belt. Patrice and I discussed the importance of interpreting religious teachings in a way that promotes personal growth rather than judgment.
We also touched on the significance of setting boundaries, particularly as entrepreneurs. Patrice shared her experience of learning to be accessible but not always available, a lesson that has helped her maintain a healthier work-life balance.
As we explored our personal lives, Patrice revealed her interest in Latin ballroom dancing as a potential new hobby, while I considered learning how to do facials. We both acknowledged the difficulty of finding new activities that are unrelated to our professional lives but agreed on the importance of trying new things.
The episode also covered the emotional toll of friendship breakups and the necessity of self-reflection in maintaining healthy relationships. Patrice's wisdom, particularly her childhood insight of asking "Can they and will they?" in relationships, resonated deeply with me.
Finally, we discussed our future aspirations. Patrice aims to expand her salon and train the next generation of professional stylists, while I am preparing for my transition out of the army and exploring new interests.
This episode was a heartfelt and enlightening conversation about personal growth, self-awareness, and the journey of healing. I hope our listeners find inspiration and valuable insights from our discussion.

We delved into her life beyond the titles of mother, sister, and grandmother, exploring who she is at her core. Aunt Runt shared her journey of self-discovery and wellness, emphasizing the importance of staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, even at the age of 68.
We discussed her daily routines, which include going to the gym, hiking, and attending the Stretch Lab. She also talked about her love for plants, a passion that started with a simple gift from her father. Aunt Runt's wellness journey is not just about physical health but also mental well-being, as she finds joy and motivation in small, achievable goals.
Aunt Runt also touched on the impact of her dog, Molly, on her wellness routine, highlighting how pets can be both a challenge and a source of motivation. We reminisced about family memories and the lessons we've learned from each other, which inspired me to announce my upcoming memoir, "Lessons from my Aunties."
Throughout our conversation, Aunt Runt offered valuable advice on wellness, stressing that it's a personal journey and what works for one person may not work for another. She encouraged listeners to find what suits their lifestyle and to make small, sustainable changes.
To wrap up, Aunt Runt shared her email address for anyone seeking guidance on their wellness journey, demonstrating her willingness to help others step out of their comfort zones and embark on their own paths to health and happiness.

This episode emphasizes the importance of treating your website as the heartbeat of your business. Lindsay describes the website as a living, breathing organism that evolves alongside your audience and business. It is not something to be set up and forgotten about; rather, it requires continuous nurturing and improvement.
The website is seen as the central hub that brings together all aspects of your brand. It not only showcases your values and client journey but also serves as a platform for engaging with your audience and driving them to take action, such as booking services or making purchases. For example, if you have a podcast or social media platform, you would use these channels to connect with people, but ultimately direct them to your website for further engagement.
Overall, this episode highlights the ongoing importance of nurturing and improving your website as the central hub of your business. It serves as a reflection of your brand and should be regularly evaluated and optimized to ensure its effectiveness in reaching and engaging with your audience.

Your website should be doing the heavy lifting for your business. When social media was booming, so many people flocked to the ease and quick results it created and they forgot about building the foundations of their business.
One of those foundations is your website. It's taking more touch points than ever to convert your audience to paying customers and if you are not using your website to help you get more touch points, then you are missing a huge opportunity.
In this episode Lindsay dives into why it's not enough just to have a webiste, but that having a strategy is an even more crucial piece that connects your website and your entire marketing system and that leads to more conversions for your business.

This episode emphasizes the importance of having a well-designed website that aligns with one's brand and goals. A well designed site will boost your conversion rates. However, not everyone has the skills or expertise in web design, and that's perfectly okay. You should hire a designer if you are ready to elevate your website.
Even though platforms like WordPress can be user-friendly with the right plugins, if web design is not in someone's zone of genius, it may still be overwhelming and frustrating.
If you feel overwhelmed or dissatisfied with their website should consider hiring a professional web designer. Drawing from her own experience of hiring a team for her podcast, she emphasizes that DIY (Do-It-Yourself) can only take someone so far.
By enlisting the help of a professional, individuals can take their website to the next level and focus their time and energy on more important aspects of their business.

I asked this question recently and I got a lot of the same answer: It’s not user friendly. I get it - it’s not the easiest to navigate and you do need to keep up on the updates - but, your website isn’t about YOU. The front end of your website needs to be doing the work to bring in people that need you in their organization. The most important user for your website is your visitor.
What do you need your website to do?
Your website is about the end user, not necessarily what’s going on in the back end.

At home, I have to know and manage the schedules for everyone. My oldest daughter is a competitive dancer, my husband coaches little league, and before going anywhere I need to know the state my 2-year-old is in and how long she’ll be able to handle wherever we’re going. In order to keep my household running efficiently, I put some systems in place that save us all a lot of time and energy.
Your website needs some tricks to work at peak efficiency, too. In this episode I’ll give you some tips about:
It doesn’t have to be a complicated process to get your website running faster.

Disclaimer: I love Canva. I really do. They’ve been adding tons of new exciting features, and I’m here for it. But, if you’re looking to walk into these corporate spaces, you’re going to need a website that’s a lot more powerful than the landing page you can build on Canva.
Listen in for more about why that easy little page isn’t good enough for:
Now, if you just need a quick landing page, do it. When it’s time to bump it up to a big boy site, WordPress is the way.

We’ve talked a lot about choosing Wordpress over other platforms, but something else you’ll need to decide is where to host your website. Unlike Squarespace or Kajabi, your Wordpress site can be hosted in many different places and you’ll have to choose which one you’ll use.
In this episode, we’ll talk about what to consider when choosing your hosting provider. Some factors include:
Your clients and potential clients don’t have time for 404 errors. It’s not about planning for the business you are today, it’s about planning for the business that you see in the future.

Would you buy a house that’s too small because it’s more convenient, and run the risk of outgrowing the house and having to move again? Not a great idea, right? Wordpress is that home you can grow into. It’s like that unfinished basement that you can fix up to be whatever you need it to be.
Wordpress is so robust that it can be intimidating. I get it. When you’re building your website, don’t just build it for where you are right now. Set up the foundation for where you want your business to be, what you want it to be capable of, even if you don’t build everything right off the bat. Hopping from platform to platform will hurt your SEO and your Google ranking.
When choosing your platform, choose wisely. Choose something that will be able to give you what you need down the road, not just what works for right now.

I was watching Too Hot to Handle on Netflix recently when it hit me. The contestants on that show didn’t know what they were in for when they signed on and they had to learn totally different rules than they were expecting. People who jump into WordPress can feel the same way.
When jumping in to move your website from a builder like Wix, Kajabi, or ShowIt, do you really know what you’re getting into? Wordpress was designed to be a CMS - a client management system. Kajabi and other site builders like it were designed to be LMS - learning management systems. They don’t serve the same function, they’re not built the same, and they don’t have the same capabilities.
What do you really need to figure out before you dive into WordPress? In this episode I’ll outline a few things that you need to consider when getting started with WP.

Many times in life and in our businesses, where we start is not where we end up. A tool (or website) that was good enough to get started isn’t going to cut it when your business needs to level up. When it’s time to level up and be the DEI consultant that you’re destined to be, that Wix or Adobe Spark site you started with isn’t enough.
In this episode I’ll go over some of the ways that WordPress is the next level that your website needs.
Your first website taught you the basics, but now it’s time to pave the way for other DEI consultants and marginalized populations to create lasting change.

Back in the day, Myspace had us all learning coding to customize our pages so when Wordpress came around, we moved those skills over there. But, websites do need to be updated regularly and there are some common pitfalls that entrepreneurs come across.
At Fierceified Agency we use the Elementor Pro plugin to build our websites and it’s easy for you to take over yourself if you decide not to use us for maintenance.
It’s better to start over than to keep a website that doesn’t represent you.

Have you been to YouTube University and Google College trying to figure out what to do with your website? Not very helpful, is it? Before you do something you want to do, there are some things you need to have in place first.
In this episode, I’m like your Hello Fresh for websites. I am going to give you all the ingredients you need to get it done.
If you bought a template, great. But, at some point, you’re going to outgrow that template and you will still need your site to take people from cold to sold. Your website is a 24/7 employee and a free little Canva site isn’t gonna cut it now that you’re doing business for real. You deserve better.

How do you know when to update your website or when to trash the whole thing? This question comes up a lot and that’s why so many websites are left without updates for way too long. How long has it been since you truly updated your website so that it shows only your current offerings and provides a reliable way to contact you?
Here are some signs you should just burn it all down and build your website back up from scratch:
Not all websites need a complete rebuild. There are pros and cons either way. Check your data and see what’s working first. If you don’t know how to read it, find someone who does. Once you know what’s working and what’s not, then find someone to help make the changes in a way that you can keep updated.

Today, let’s start with your website. A lot of people like to set it and forget it, but don’t forget that your website is your 24/7 employee.
People throw the term “optimization” around a lot, but what does it really mean and how can you do it? Listen in while I share…
You get less than 10 seconds for someone to decide whether they’re going to stay on your website and give you their money. Is your website getting them where they want to go or is it turning them away?

By the year 2044, groups now seen as the minority will be seen as the majority. Why shouldn’t they have the opportunity to be successful now? Businesses have to have some sort of DEI statement in place. If your brand isn’t ready for you to step up and help them, you’re doing yourself, and everyone else, a disservice. Sticking with your DIY brand is costing you time, money, and the opportunity to be effective in these corporate spaces. The work we do is bigger than us and it’s bigger than a brand. You have to be bold because you’re going to be stepping into spaces where most people probably don’t look like you and they don’t understand the importance of why you’re there. You can’t do your work halfway. It’s time to step into the big leagues and start treating your business with respect it deserves and transform it into the powerhouse that you are destined to be. We’re here to help you in the DEI spaces to show up authentically at these corporations so that you are able to fight for the rights of others to be able to show up as themselves. That’s why we’ve developed the Bonafide Framework. In Phase 1, we Remove The Façade. We solidify your brand and your values and do competitor research to find where you can stand out. We dig into your target audience because if you’re selling to everybody, you’re selling to nobody. In Phase 2, we Work The Crowd. We create the visuals that get the crowd worked up as they’re standing on your website, on your social media, on your pamphlets. When people like what they see, they’ll be enticed. In Phase 3, Curb Appeal, we build the website and pull it all together. We create the curb appeal so people are willing to knock on your door to get your help. We’re here to help you step into those corporate spaces by building a brand that’s more than a brand. It encompasses everything you stand for, everything you’ve built your business on, and your goals. Choosing not to fix your brand is choosing not to be there to help those people that need it by changing the culture in those corporate spaces. Selling from social media is great and all, but remember what happened when FB and IG shut down? What are you going to do when/if that happens again? What happens if social media shuts down entirely and you lose all of your contacts, brand copy, sales conversations, and online presence? You need to own a piece of the internet. You need the data that a website can give you and the legitimacy that a well-designed website provides when potential clients look you up. And they will look you up. The corporations that you’re pitching to want to be able to see how you handle yourself in the online space and they expect professionalism. They want to verify who you are and what you do. You need a website, and it needs to continuously improve in the same way that your brand and client journey do. You need that 24/7 employee to work for you, not against you! Having your brand crafted to represent you authentically positions you to be in those spaces that need you most. Big corporations like to do business with people who know what they’re talking about. Having a cohesive brand gets your foot in the door and makes you look professional. However, professional doesn’t equal boring. Phase 1 of our branding framework is removing the facade. We make sure that your values and your voice are aligned with who you are so that when you send your proposal up to that corporation, they know exactly what they’re getting. We do important background work on your competitors
Why can’t you and your company redefine what success looks like? A lot of times people think that branding is just the cute, visual stuff for your business. There’s a lot more to it. What’s your brand voice? What’s the client journey like? What is your framework? Then the visuals are the whipped cream on top. Don't forget - 95% of purchases are emotional. For people to buy from you, they need to feel emotionally connected to you. How do you do that? With your foundational branding work. Why do you need this? 95% of purchasing decisions are emotional Up to 20% increase in revenue when people see brand consistency We need YOU as a DEI organization to step into corporate spaces and make change Having a cohesive brand makes you look like you know what you’re talking about

Welcome to More Than A Brand! I’m here to help entrepreneurs in the DEI space demystify the process behind what a brand really is. During my military career, I have run into a lot of misogyny and inequity, among other things. I was told that higher ranking women go into admin because they get fat, pregnant, and less competitive. EXCUSE ME. I proved him wrong, by the way. If those things are happening in the military, they’re definitely happening in the civilian sector too. That’s why it’s my mission to help DEI coaches and consultants rebrand so that they can show up as their most authentic selves in corporate spaces that don’t have a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
