This week Jen encourages us to study with patience. Building Biblical literacy takes TIME and EFFORT! Without patience we will give up or look for a shortcut and miss out on the sweet reward of the "ah-ha" moment delivered straight from the Holy Spirit.
This week we discuss chapter 4 of Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin. Last week, Jen encouraged us to view Scripture through the lens of its Big Story, the metanarrative. This week, she teaches us how to study a passage or book within its original context. Courtney and Madison discuss how this has affected their Bible study.
Episode 3 is all about chapter 3, study with purpose. The purpose of studying Scripture is determined by the Bible itself. It's a book that tells of the reign and rule of God through the creation of all things, the fall of mankind and fracturing of the cosmos, God's promise and plan to redeem humanity and all creation, and the consummation of the plan. We should approach Scripture with the purpose of looking for and identifying this big story, or metanarrative. Courtney and Madison also complain about first world problems.
