We live in a time period where so much is happening! There is political unrest, constantly changing values and general disruptions to our everyday lives. I, Chase Erickson, created this weekly show to examine the larger issues that impact our lives and share my thoughts on a variety of topics. And, of course, it wouldn't be a worthwhile discussion without a drink to sip on!
I know it's been a hot minute, but we are back and taking a break from the news. Instead, I along with my good friend Wil Collins are taking a deep dive into one of the craziest weekends of college football we've experienced. We discuss the big game of last week (Alabama vs. Texas), get into the major upsets (App State! and Marshall!) and highlight the major games from the SEC East. We finish up with some winners and losers for the week, some final thoughts and a quick preview of week 3's game slate. Enjoy and Cheers!
The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is one of the most significant court rulings in recent memory. Based on the ruling, it is now left up to individual to decide whether to protect a woman's right to have an abortion, place restrictions on abortion or ban abortion entirely. Regardless, there will be significant consequences as a result of this ruling.
Because this topic directly impacts women, I was very thankful to have Becca Dellinger join me as the first guest on the podcast in order to have a conversation about this issue. Becca is in a very unique position to discuss this topic based on her upbringing, her beliefs and the fact that she recently had her first baby (You will most certainly hear baby Stella in the background). In our conversation, we discuss our general thoughts and reactions to the ruling, the potential implications it has the health and economic impact of women in society, and how "pro-life" should actually be defined. Becca also discusses how her faith, her recent experience with pregnancy and her new perspective as a mom in have influenced her views on abortion.

In this episode, I discuss the influence and impact of state supreme courts in through the lens of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. I also explore why the position of state supreme court justice has become significantly more politicized in recent years, and discuss whether the way we choose supreme court justices at the state level (and potentially at the national level) needs to be changed.
I also look into the recent findings from Uvalde that have been released by The Texas Tribune. I highly encourage you to read this article if you want to understand how the events in Uvalde unfolded.
Lastly, I look in to Biden's Gas Tax "Holiday" proposal (It's not much of a holiday) and explain the reasons why gas prices are currently so high. I also explore whether there is anything that the president or congress can do to address this issue in a substantial way.
