Join a virtual staffroom of keen teachers to explore the best teaching method known to science: storytelling. In 2014, Epic Tales and EU Lifelong Learning proved that children perform an average of 26% better in tests when taught through stories, a fact that's since been backed up by London's Institute of Education and Bath University, so we're here to help your learners achieve greater success in English, Maths, Science, and more.
Hosted by Oxford Owl storyteller Chip Colquhoun, author of the EU’s guidance on using stories in the classroom, each 15min-or-so episode takes the weekly story in our sister podcast, Fables & Fairy Tales, and discusses it with experienced teachers around a specific curriculum subject. You'll come away with off-the-shelf lesson ideas that are effective, memorable, and enjoyable – all at the same time.
To get the stories as special edition paperbacks containing detailed lesson plans, along with artwork by incredible illustrators such as Winnie the Witch's Korky Paul, join the Epic Learning Book Club by visiting epictales.co.uk/teachhappily
You can also find us on Facebook for weekly storytelling tips from Chip, and join our discussions on Twitter using @TeachHappily to let us know what topics you'd like us to cover.
We look forward to sharing stories with you!

One of Learning Ladders' https://www.learningladders.info/news/best-podcasts-for-headteachers-and-schools-2021-winners/ (Best Podcasts for Headteachers and Educators 2021), Tiny Voice Talks gives a platform to the quieter voices in education. Toria is a primary teacher passionate about education and building a better future for all, and in this podcast she chats to teachers, leaders, authors and advisors about what they are doing and how they're impacting the young people in our classrooms. In this episode, Toria spoke with our storyteller Chip Colquhoun – but WHOA! Don't go thinking this is just another chat about ways to present literacy. Chip has spent 15 years helping schools use storytelling to boost attainment in all core curriculum subjects, seeing several raise their OFSTED rating from "Requires improvement" to "Good" or "Outstanding", and conducted the world's first controlled study into the impact of storytelling on primary children (with EU Lifelong Learning) which demonstrated how storytelling can improve test scores. After Toria and Chip take you on a journey spanning 40,000 years to explore why and how storytelling is such a powerful tool in your classroom, search your podcast player for "https://tinyvoicetalks.buzzsprout.com/ (Tiny Voice Talks)"! And if you're in education and want your voice heard, find Toria on Twitter via https://twitter.com/toriaclaire (@toriaclaire). To access many more story-led teaching resources from Chip and the Epic team, including an ever-expanding archive of storytelling videos you can share with your class and a book series illustrated by Winnie the Witch's Korky Paul, head to http://epictales.co.uk/learning (epictales.co.uk/learning)
For 100 episodes, we've helped educators create the most effective, memorable and enjoyable learning environment – according to science. But what is the experience of teachers on the ground using these methods? In this landmark episode, we find out. Our educators share the improvements they've seen in their classroom using storytelling as a teaching tool, why they think it works, the benefits it brings to their own mental health, and more – while also sharing lesson ideas around non-chronological reports, safeguarding, and classification, using a story specially selected for the upcoming Foster Care Fortnight. Sharing their ideas with you are... EY-KS1 teacher Helen KS2 teacher Toria (host of the https://tinyvoicetalks.buzzsprout.com/ (Tiny Voice Talks) podcast) former EY-KS1 teacher Abi, currently education adviser for https://nnfestival.org.uk/festival-bridge/ (Festival Bridge) KS2 teacher Rob KS2 teacher, SLT and teacher trainer Bex
...and your host, storyteller Chip from the Oxford Owl and Epic Tales websites.
