What’s up, I’m Zach, and I was on a diet of rice and pears for 8 whole years! I have an incurable disease (Eosinophilic Esophagitis) that really isolated me from everyone else. For so long, I tried to fit in with those around me. Then one day, I realized my true identity... I am a weirdo.
Rice Cakes and Pears provides a platform where weirdos can shine! A space that welcomes unique stories/perspectives. A podcast people with chronic/mental illness can relate to. Now, go ahead, pop open a can of pears, and shove a rice cake in your mouth! You won’t regret it.

Their website states it best, "we are shaping the next generation of outdoor apparel by incorporating sustainable practices, fair pricing, and by spreading awareness to current global issues." They are especially, "compelled by community, no matter the form. If you enjoy something, do it more and make it your life. Sam was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy his sophomore year of high school... Since accepting his diagnosis, Sam strives to take it day by day. What I love about this dude, is that he doesn't stress the little things anymore. Life is too short to waste your energy on things that don't matter. Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive disease, so Sam knew this last snow season might’ve been his last.. So he moved to Vermont and ski'd every day! Thanks for joining me Sam. Also to note, Sam is a huge Kanye fan. So that's dope.

Ellyn has helped raise almost 6 million dollars for Eosinophilic research!!! in 2018, I was at a low point in my EOE battle, and Ellyn reached out to me.. I can honestly say, I wouldn't have a podcast, had she not encouraged me to share my story with people. It's amazing how sharing your struggle can connect and help others along the way. I first encountered pornography in 5th grade while at a sleep over. What started as curiosity, soon led to addictive behavior when I got my first i-touch at the age of 12. In high school, I realized, porn probably wasn't the best thing I could be watching.. But I soon found out quitting porn wasn't as easy to quit then I thought! Let's be honest, it's 2021, everyone watches porn. It is normalized, easy to find, and free!!.. After years of trying to quit completely, I can actually say, I have been clean from porn since September 2015! It is liberating to be free of something that used to make me have lower self-esteem, self worth, and confidence. I have a strong marriage that is founded on honesty and true love. I promise you, it is possible to quit and change.

Brian Hill introduces us to the world of Positive Psychology. Traditional psychology focuses on treating the ill, while positive psychology focuses on what actually creates a full-filling life... We learn that measuring happiness is too broad. Instead of happiness, we use the word well-being. Well-being is made up of five components: Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment. (PERMA) If we contribute a little to each area, our lives will begin to flourish. We also learn what's been proven to not bring LASTING happiness.

Ethan Hardman enlightens us about the LGBTQ+ community. He shares what it was like to be gay in a church that condemns homosexual behavior. What is so admirable, is that Ethan comes from a place of nothing but love. He shares that being gay in Utah has been very difficult, but he says the hardest part about being gay was actually being in the closet. Ethan helps us know how to respectfully ask questions to people of the LGBTQ+ community. Ethan admits that he once held bitter feelings towards the Mormon church, but has found peace understanding that religion is a tool that can help individuals improve their lives. If anything, Ethan radiates acceptance, sensitivity, and love towards everyone. I think we have a lot to learn from Ethan and the LGBTQ+ community.
