Passionate Iowa Hawkeye sports fan previews games and discusses game results from a fan perspective. Go Hawks!
We all know Caitlin is the goat. What a run by the Hawkeyes to the championship game. Tim Lester is getting rave reviews as OC early on. I go into detail of the Hawkeyes men’s team and how they performed this past season, and the outlook for next season. Go Hawks!!
The Iowa men have been treading water, but they are firmly on the bubble with a home win over top 20 Wisconsin and a road win at MSU. Fran’s teams have won five of the last six over Sparty. The rotation has been tweaked of late, and this team is fighting for a NCAA tournament birth under the leadership of upper class players who are playing at a high level.
Former WMU head coach and Green Bay special assistant, Tim Lester, was hired to replace Brian Ferentz. If he can run his RPO offense that is built to hit the weak spots on the defense, I’m on board. The Hawks need a QB and some WR in the portal in spring. Numbers are interesting with no scholarships open, but there will be some movement in spring. Two disappointing losses have Fran’s guys reeling. Can they bounce back and get a home win vs OH State? Perk and Payton are rolling and they need more help from others and are teetering when it comes to NCAA eligibility.
Covers some news and discussion around men’s basketball and the coaches over the last 50 years. Why aren’t fans filling up Carver with this fun, young basketball team? Go Hawks!!
Iowa’s offense looked out-dated and tired against a fast and aggressive Tennessee defense. Despite portal opt-outs, the Hawkeyes couldn’t get much done offensively and were shut out for the third time this season. Help is on the way with a mystery OC, some COVID year returnees and a nice early signing class for Swarm 24. Go Hawks!!
It’s been up and down for the Hawkeyes with a W over 8-5 Seton Hall as the biggest win after 12 games. Northern Illinois is up next and then it’s Big Ten time with an 0-2 start already in the books. The Moline freshmen, Owen Freeman and Brock Harding, have hit the ground running. Can the team gel and make it to the Big Show?
Iowa faces a high powered offense in the Citrus Bowl. The Volunteers have a senior QB and some dynamic WR, although its top RB opted out of the game. Can the Hawkeyes get win number 11? Also talk a bit about my trip to Indy for the Big Ten Championship game.
It was a crazy game in Lincoln with two blocked field goals and two kickoffs kicked out of bounds for Iowa. After going 5-11 as a field goal kicker last year, the Hawkeyes marched out Marshall Meeder to kick a game winning 38 yard field goal, his first of the season. The Hawkeyes ran the ball well and Nebraska was generous with turnovers, as they have been all season. Next up for Iowa, the cheaters from Ann Arbor. The Wolverines are 12-0 but not quite as dominant without knowing what their opponent is running on offense every play. Can the Hawkeyes pull of a major upset? Go Hawks!
The loss of Cooper DeJean was hard to take this week, but once again, this team fought through adversity and won a close game. The Iowa defense came up big when needed and the offense scored just enough with the late TD by Kaleb Johnson. Next, the Hawkeyes head to Lincoln to try to get back the Heroes trophy and try to keep the Huskers out of a bowl game for a million years in a row.
Iowa traveled to #8 Creighton but fell 92-84. Creighton got hot ti start the 2nd half and had to play catch up after that. The new guys, including four try freshmen are holding their own. So sorry to hear about the Cooper DeJean injury. He’s an all time Hawkeye! One of my favorites. Shout out to honorary captain Noah Shannon this weekend!!
The Hawkeye offense put up 402 yards on Saturday, while Rutgers couldn’t do anything against Phil Parker’s defense. 8-2 feels good with the jolly old elf and the Fighting Illini coming to Kinnick on Saturday. Illinois is now a passing offense with a poor rushing game and a mediocre defense. The Hawkeyes need a win at Kinnick to clinch the West!
4.15 Iowa pulled another one out after a 0-0 tie at halftime to win 10-7 on a 52 yard field goal by Drew Stevens. A Big Ten West-like Rutgers comes to Kinnick on Saturday, and the Hawkeyes need to keep winning to take the West! It was an impressive debut for the Iowa Men’s basketball team with a win over North Dakota. The newcomers looked good, and the offensive output came from a lot of individuals. 110 points!
Fran’s Hawkeyes start the season against North Dakota in less than a week. With six newcomers, two bigs from the transfer portal and four true freshman, this is an interesting team. There is a nice core of two returning starters and the Big Ten’s sixth man of the year, in Payton Sandfort, plus two intriguing sophomore guards in Bowen and Dix. I preview the NW football game that will be played at Wrigley field and touch on the Brian news for a couple minutes. Go Hawks!!
The referees decided to steal Floyd from the Hawkeyes on Saturday with a phantom invalid fair catch call after a punt return TD by Cooper DeJean. Not one person in the stadium thought there was anything wrong with the play, and once we saw Coop was clearly in bounds, it was celebration time. A ref decided to take the law in his own hands and stick it to the Hawkeyes. One of the most electric plays in Hawkeye history was deleted from the record books by disgusting incompetence from the referee crew. It was a sad day at Kinnick, and we are still waiting for an apology for this travesty. Not that an apology can give Coop this play back.
15-6 may not impress too many people across the country, but the Hawkeyes got a nice road win in Madison. Iowa is in the driver’s seat to win the Big Ten West, but they need to keep winning. PJ Fleck is rowing into town on Saturday with a passing game almost as statistically unimpressive as Iowa’s. Can the Hawkeyes win a second border rivalry game in as many weeks? Yes, in a low scoring game, of course!
There were so many strange plays in Kinnick on homecoming that it felt like a Halloween game. Nonetheless, the Hawkeyes got the win 20-14, although it seemed like it should have been 34-14. It was great having Kaleb Johnson back running the ball like last year. Next up is a road game in Mad Town. Do not go downtown after the game. I learned that lesson years ago, as Badger fans are the worst in the Big Ten!
Cade McNamara tore his ACL on the second possession of the game for the Hawkeyes. Big Deacon Hill came in and did enough to help secure a win with a lot of help from MSU turnovers and excellent special teams play. Next up are the Boilers. Jeff Brohm is at Louisville now, but this looks like a pretty good offense, coming off putting up 44 points against Illinois. Go Hawks!
The statistics tell the story of an offense that couldn’t do anything right and a defense that was on the field all night. Four first downs. A total of 76 total yards of offense. Just 14 and a half minutes time of possession. Can the Hawkeyes shake it off and get a win against the Spartans? Can the offense make strides after one of the worst performances of the Ferentz era?
The Hawkeyes started slow, but the offense got it going, gaining over 250 yards on the ground. The rushing game looked good, while the passing game had some struggles. Will Cade be healthy and ready to sling it on Saturday? Can Iowa pull off an upset in a White Out at Beaver stadium!?
It was close to a runaway win but execution failed the Hawkeyes on a few big plays. The Cyclones tried to come back, but the Hawkeyes stuffed the Cyclones on a 4th and 1. The “elite” Matt Campbell is 1-6 against the Hawkeyes. Kirk Ferentz had a rough 0-4 start against the Cyclones but is 14-6 since the slow start. Is Jack Trice Kinnick West? Go Hawks!!
The Hawkeyes are 1-0 after beating Utah State on a hot Saturday at Kinnick. After a big first quarter for the offense, some troubling trends emerged, mostly around running the football. It’s just week one, so it’s not time to panic yet. A 2-0 start with a win over Iowa State is just what the doctor ordered. Can the Hawkeyes go into Jack Trice and come out with a sixth win in a row in Ames?
The Utah State Aggies invade Kinnick Stadium on Labor Day weekend, where they will run into a buzzsaw of a defense and an improved offense. Will Cade be ready to go? Will we see what QB2 looks like? How many yards for Kaleb Johnson? Which receivers will shine, and will we see plays down field in the passing game? Excitement is in the air with football returning, and it’s exciting to soon be able to see new players perform. I discuss my agenda in Iowa City and how to manage the forecast of a HOT day in the sun.
The Iowa offense needs and deserves a healthy Cade this football season. He seems like a great guy, leader and football player and is the key to Iowa getting to ten plus wins. More football discussion in this episode, and what is the buzz about Fran’s basketball team? There are a lot of new guys and a lot of intriguing players on this year’s men’s basketball team. I keep being more and more intrigued. Can the front court be better than last year based on number of guys? Could they go small ball with Peyton at the 4 and have four three point threats on the court at the same time?
In episode 4.2, I predicted wins and losses for the first six games and had the Hawkeyes at 5-1. This episode covers the last half of the season. Will the momentum continue with three trophy games in the last six games? Will PJ Fleck drop to 0-7 against Captain Kirk? Go Hawks!
The 2023 schedule, combined with a proven quarterback and a more experienced offensive line, position the Hawkeyes for a successful football season. Listen to my predictions for the first half of the 2023 season and some more discussion on Cade, the OL and NIL with the nee Swarm Beer and Swarm Vodka! Go Hawks!!
Transfer Portal Kirk came through in the offseason, and the Hawkeyes offense is set to break out next season. Basketball didn’t have quite as much success in the portal but filled some needs in the post and have four intriguing incoming freshmen. Are the gridiron Hawkeyes going to break out on offense? Can the NCAA streak stay alive for the men’s basketball team? It remains to be seen, but the newcomers are making it interesting.
Caitlin Clark is the goat on and off the court. Can Fran land another post player in the transfer portal? Iowa football is getting it done in the transfer portal. How much can the offense improve next season?
The Hawkeyes couldn’t overcome poor shooting and a hot Auburn team in the second half. Auburn’s overly aggressive defense seemed to bother Iowa on the offensive end. Both teams combined for 1-18 from three in the first half, and both teams hit 7 threes in the second half. The Hawks trailed by 17 after a flurry of threes by Auburn and cut the lead to four, but they couldn’t quite get over the hump.
After two great wins over MSU and Indiana, the Hawkeyes struggled with a home loss to Nebraska and a loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament. Those losses dropped Iowa to an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament in Birmingham, AL. It’s a huge opportunity if the Hawkeyes get past Auburn. Let’s see some March Madness and a Hawkeyes Team raining threes!
The Spartans were hot and seemingly couldn’t miss all game long. The Hawkeyes got hot late and rained threes in the last minute to force overtime and a big conference win! After two road losses, the Hawkeyes needed this win as postseason approaches.
Three point shooting has been a struggle for the Hawkeyes of late. Can the shooting woes be turned around in Carver-Hawkeye arena this weekend? Tom Izzo’s Spartans are coming to town with plans to improve their Big Ten and NCAA seed. Iowa needs to win two of the last three to feel good about receiving birth in the NCAA tournament.
The Hawkeyes are now 9-6 and tied for 3rd in the B1G! The game at MN was a gritty win with shots not falling. Iowa ran the Buckeyes out of the gym in the Connor McCaffery game. Connor had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists with 0 turnovers. Huge game coming up on Sunday at Northwestern.
The Hawkeyes protected the home court with wins over NW and the Illini. Purdue and Zach Edey, ranked #1 in college basketball, were too much for Iowa on the road. Huge transfer portal LB commitment for the Hawks. A tackling machine and leader. Gary did Gary things and left another PR mess at Iowa. Remember to bet the over this year in Iowa games.
After two big wins, the Hawkeyes dropped two road games to the Buckeyes and Spartans. The best defensive team in the league then fell victim to the Iowa offense on Sunday. Review of Iowa individual stats midway through the B1G basketball season. Football portal and commitment notes. New sound system will be coming as my system is gone. Apologies for the sounds. Go Hawks!!
Kris Murray and Payton Sandfort were great on Thursday night. Josh Dix had quite a performance off the bench, as well. Jett Howard couldn’t keep scoring at will, and the Hawkeyes advanced to 3-3 in the Big Ten Conference. Go Hawks!!
At 0-3 in the conference the Iowa men were struggling putting the ball in the basket. After a big win over top 20 Indiana in an amazing comeback, the Hawkeyes beat Rutgers on the road in a game where Iowa never trailed. The football team has received some good news in the portal, and a couple of key defensive players are coming back for another year.
Iowa’s defense dominated by shutting down Kentucky’s offense and scoring two touchdowns on interceptions. The offense didn’t make any big mistakes and did enough to help the Hawkeyes move to 8-5 on the season, capping it off with a bowl win. Captain Kirk was emotional talking about the seniors taking part in the bowl game.
They Iowa Hawkeyes and Kentucky Wildcats face off on New Years Eve…at 11 AM Central Time. Both teams will have young QBs starting and facing good defenses. It looks like rain in Nashville. Also included a quick recap of defense signees for 2023 after talking about offense signees in the prior episode. Go Hawks!
Iowa lost to the 356th best team in the country on Wednesday. It was the biggest upset in the last 30 years and maybe ever. Kadyn Proctor left the Hawkeyes high and dry at right tackle for next season, and now the portal needs to come through. Quick run through of offense signees for 2023 football.
It was a tough three game stretch, made tougher with an injury to Kris Murray. After a poor shooting game and a loss to Duke in NYC, the Hawkeyes crushed ISU in a quick turnaround game without Murray. Without Murray and Ulis, the Hawkeyes lost to WI in OT. Nice effort by the Hawkeyes. New transfer portal news with Eric All, TE from Michigan, picking the Hawkeyes! This new offense is coming together!
The transfer portal is getting every fan base stirred up. Only around 40 percent of players that enter the portal find what they are looking for. The Iowa Swarm is growing its members, which is good for the future of Iowa athletics. It’s a huge week of basketball for Fran and his Hawkeyes cagers!
The Hawkeyes football team had a lot to play for on Friday, but they couldn’t get the offense going until it was too late. The Hawkeyes men BB team are playing in the Emerald Coast Classic championship against TCU after a nail biter win over Clemson!
Fran McCaffery landed a solid 2023 basketball class with two players from Moline, one from Waukee, and a power forward from NJ. Is the portal still open for a 5th? This year’s team is a high scoring unit led by Kris Murray, and they have quite a schedule coming up. Get to Carver or watch on tv if you can’t!! This is a fun team!
Iowa needs a win on Friday to secure a Big Ten West Championship and a trip to Indy to play the winner of Michigan and Ohio State! After starting the season 3-4, Kirk Ferentz has led his team to four straight wins, despite a struggling offense. The Cornhuskers are traveling to Iowa City to play spoiler, while the Hawkeyes are looking for the 8th win in a row over the Huskers.
Huge road win for the Hawkeyes to move to 7-4 and 5-3 in the conference. With a win against Nebraska, the Hawkeyes will be headed to Indianapolis to score an upset win over the Wolverines or the Buckeyes!! GO HAWKS!!
The Hawkeyes beat the Badgers with excellent defense and special teams play. Both teams struggled offensively, but the Iowa offense was able to put the ball in the end zone a couple of times after good field position. Cooper DeJean had a monster day with ten tackles, a pick six and over 80 punt return yards. Iowa is now bowl eligible at 6-4 with Minnesota up next. The Bull is back in Iowa City!! Go Hawks!
Iowa basketball with runaway wins on a Monday night double header. It will be fun to watch the 4th ranked Iowa women this year, and I love the starting lineup Fran has right now. Length and quickness should lead to better defense, and offense is natural to these guys. Huge game at Kinnick on Saturday. The Bull needs to come back to Iowa City! I’m predicting a 24-20 Iowa win, higher scoring than most, but I like what Iowa has been doing and Kaleb Johnson will have another big game.I’m fine with 13-7, as long as Iowa prevails! Oh, and Go Boilers?!
Spencer Petras was distributing the ball to wide receivers under duress, hitting tight ends deep. The running game was rolling with true freshman Kaleb Johnson piling up 200 yards. Purdue’s game plan to throw to Charlie Jones over and over didn’t work against the Hawkeyes. Charlie got 104 yards receiving but on 19 targets and 11 catches. Iowa’s defense only gave up 3 points against a “high flying” Purdue offense. Go Hawks!!
Iowa’s offense looked good against Northwestern with a nice passing game and running game and improved line play. The competition was down a notch, but it was fun to see. Next up is Purdue, and the key is limiting touches for Charlie Jones and forcing turnovers in the passing game. Fran’s squad had a scrimmage that I couldn’t watch because the B1G+ app refuses to work. I love the starting lineup with Perkins at the 1 and Sandfort at the 2. A lot of scorers and a long, athletic lineup.
The Hawkeyes face 1-6 Northwestern this weekend and need to show improvement on the offensive side of the ball. The offensive line has really struggled this year, but the competition is getting easier, starting with NW. This weekend’s game is a must win for the Iowa Hawkeyes on homecoming. Kirk Ferentz made some comments about a reporter on Tuesday that resulted in an apology the next day. People aren’t Interested in feisty Kirk right now, and they just want to see results on the field.
Iowa repeatedly gave the Buckeyes offense a short field, and the defense did what it could to keep Ohio State out of the end zone. Turnovers have become a huge problem for the Hawkeyes offense. The Iowa offense finally saw Alex Padilla take over in the second half, but it was his first game action of the season. It was a rocky start, to say the least, but a change was needed. Let’s see what Padilla can do against NW next weekend and hopefully get the Hawkeyes back to winning. Go Hawks!
Fran McCaffrey’s Hawkeye basketball team is getting ready for a big pre conference slate, including Duke at Madison Square Garden. This team will be led by some experienced players with a nice mix of young newcomers. Listen to this preview and prediction of the starting lineup and reserves for the 2022-2023 Hawkeyes cagers.
Iowa’s offense struggled to move the ball consistently and couldn’t score touchdowns in the red zone. Meanwhile, coaches are being fired in the middle of the season in college football at a pace like we haven’t seen before. What can the Hawkeyes do in the bye week? Will there be a coaching change after the season?
Brett Bielema seems to be turning the illini around in his second year as head coach. 4-1 is nice, but who have they played? Listen for some insights around the Hawkeyes and the Illini and a prediction on who will win on Saturday night. Go Hawks!
Top five teams go to Kinnick to die, but Michigan broke the code on Saturday with a mistake free offense that used long drives to chew up the clock. Iowa had a late run but couldn’t execute well enough to get a TD that would have put pressure in the Michigan offense.
The Doughboyz scored two touchdowns, one on a pick six and one in a scoop and score fumble recovery. Iowa’s offensive line keeps improving and the Hawkeyes were able to move the ball against Rutgers. Petras was slinging the ball well, and three running backs had seven or more carries. Nice road win for the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
The Hawkeyes opened up the offense on Saturday with more passes down the field against a 2–1 Nevada team with a new coach. It rained all game, and three rain delays made for a long night. It was great to see Keagan Johnson, Nico and Brody Brecht getting a lot of playing time. Kaleb Johnson led the ground attack and looks like an explosive running back!
The offense led by Brian Ferentz had another very bad performance on Saturday in a loss to the in-state rival. Iowa’s offense ranks last or close to last in every offensive category. Changes are needed now or this could be one looooong season once the Big Ten starts!
Iowa struggled on offense but notched a W over FCS power South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits were undersized but well coached with a coach who has been the head coach longer than KF has been at Iowa. What went well and what didn’t in a 7-3 victory with zero touchdowns and 21 punts?
Nebraska lost to NW in the most Nebraska way possible. Scott Frost called an onside kick up 11 in the 3rd quarter, which failed miserably. It was all Pat Fitzgerald needed to turn the tide and beat the Huskers. Two other 2022 Hawkeye opponents also played on Saturday. I predict the depth chart that will come out on Monday and talk about stories to look for on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium! I can’t wait to swarm with my son and 70k fans!!
The talk last season and during the off-season has focused on improving quarterback play at Iowa. Offensive coordinator, Brian Ferentz, has taken over as QB coach and is tweaking the offense this season. With 23 years for Kirk Ferentz as head coach at Iowa, I go back in time and pick my top five quarterbacks under Kirk Ferentz. Number one was easy for me, but the order is up for debate. Will an improved offensive line, a more experienced wide receiver group and an updated offense elevate the 2022 team to a ten win season? Spencer Petras and Alex Padilla have experience, and the Hawkeyes have a defense that will make it tough for opponents to score points. Thirteen days until we SWARM Kinnick! Go Hawks!
The Hawkeyes were left out of the preseason coach’s poll barely…sitting at 26. Why is Wisconsin ranked but not Iowa when looking at the players returning in Iowa City? Plenty of media day and kids day notes after watching videos of interviews and practice plays. Pryce Sandfort fits in well with the Fran Mac system. Go Hawks!!
A recap of comments from coaches at the Big Ten Media Days in Indy, focusing on Coach Ferentz and Iowa’s nine opponents in 2022. A quick look at cross divisional games for the West this season with Iowa having the biggest challenge, facing both Ohio State and Michigan. The first virtual call with the Iowa City NIL took place on Friday and was enjoyable. Edit: Did I really mention watering holes around Wrigley instead of Indy? My mind must have been stuck on previous comments around NW and the upcoming new stadium in Chicago! 😎
Keegan Murray continues to excel in the NBA summer league. The football team got another Chicago area commitment. the football players’ Iowa City NIL Club is open for members, and I joined to check out the player content. Game by game score predictions for the football season. A couple surprises in there, but there are always surprises in football. Go Hawks!
The Iowa Hawkeyes play again in 56 days! What player will have the biggest jump in production on offense (hint: RB), on defense (hint: fan favorite TR) and on special teams (hint: Coooop). The Iowa football players announced the Iowa City NIL collective. Recruiting is still on a roll, and new teams in the B1G from the West Coast??
Congratulations to Keegan Murray on being the number four overall pick in the NBA draft. Iowa received commitments from ‘23 basketball recruit Brock Harding and legacy recruit in the ‘24 class, Cooper Koch, both from Illinois. Kendrick Raphael from Florida picked the Hawkeyes as a running back in the ‘23 class, and Iowa landed a DL from Des Moines and a big OT from IL.
Matt Gatens was named as replacement for retiring assistant basketball coach Kirk Speraw. Incoming freshman defensive lineman Aaron Graves is a beast athletically and academically!
Charlie Jones was a surprising late transfer to Purdue before his COVID senior year. The transfer portal is the new fad, and we should know more about NIL collectives at Iowa soon. The Hawkeyes need to beat Purdue by three touchdowns next year. Edit: I mistakenly said Barker for Illinois had 845 yards and 11 TD last season. I meant to say in his career at Illinois.
It was another good season for Iowa baseball, but the team was not selected for the NCAA tournament again. They just want to get in the tournament and have a shot at making it to the College World Series in Omaha. The Big Ten in general was snubbed by the NCAA. Hawkeye fans got some great news with the return of Kris Murray to Iowa next season. While short handed as far as scholarship players, Fran McCaffrey’s Hawkeyes will have a solid starting lineup next season.
The consensus All-American and Rimington Trophy winner, Tyler Linderbaum, was the 25th overall pick by the Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh. Dane Belton went to the Giants in the 4th round, and several other Hawkeyes have opportunities to make rosters as free agents. Kirk Ferentz coached players always have a shot because they are coached in a pro system, and Iowa develops players. The basketball Hawks had a player come back from the portal and got a commitment from a high potential guard from Rock Island.
The spring practice on Saturday didn’t show too much with so many players out with injuries. Despite losing some key guys in the secondary, I predict the defense will be better than last year. Who will step up at QB? How will the starting offensive line shake out? A lot of good story lines heading into summer!
In episode 2.60, the defense two deep was discussed. This episode focuses on the offense and special teams. There are some holes to fill but also a lot of talented players returning that could be really special this season.
It’s no surprise, but the great Keegan Murray entered the NBA draft. He should be a top 5 pick. Two Iowa basketball players entered the crowded transfer portal. Best of luck to Joe and Josh! The Iowa football two deeps are out and practice is well underway. Taking a look at the defense in this one. The defense will be great in 2022!!
After being picked to finish around 9th place by most publications after losing two players to the NBA and two to the Portal, the Hawkeyes finished 5th and win the B1G Tournament championship. Who is back and how might the lineup look next year? Go Hawks!
The Iowa Hawkeyes fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament, playing the Spiders of Richmond. Iowa couldn’t make a basket, and it was a disappointing ending to the amazing, short career of the best basketball player in college, Keegan Murray.
Fran McCaffery’s Hawkeyes stormed Indianapolis with an impressive four day run to win the conference tournament championship. The Hawkeyes are peaking at the best possible time with the NCAA tournament starting later this week. Iowa faces the Richmond Spiders on Thursday and will play the winner of Providence and South Dakota State on Saturday. Go Hawks!
Iowa started slow then got it going with Keegan Murray leading the Hawkeyes to victory with 26 points against the Scarlet Knights. JBo and Tony Perkins with 16 points, and the bench provided a boost.
The Hawkeyes were on fire shooting the basketball, and 112 points broke the prior record of 97 points in a B1G tourney game. Fourteen players scored, and ten players hit threes for Iowa. This team is clicking and has Rutgers next with a possible rematch with Illinois with another W.
Iowa went to Michigan on Thursday and got a road win on senior night against a team desperate for wins to get to the NCAA tournament. The Hawks have won 8 of the last 9! Keegan Murray is so good. Does he lead Iowa players in the last 20-40 years in “talent”? Abdul Hodge is a great hire for the Hawkeyes, and BF can focus on QB play with KOK in an analyst role. Iowa football finally tapped into the transfer portal, improving TE depth.
On senior night it was seniors getting it done in a Hawkeye blowout victory over the Wildcats! CMac, JBo, Ash, Devlin all with huge shots from long range! Keegan Murray with 26 points and 18 rebounds, and he should be the POY in the Big Ten!
The Hawkeyes have struggled in Lincoln lately but came away with a ten point win on Friday led by 20 points from Tony Perkins. Connor McCaffrey continues to shoot the rock from deep of late, and the Murray Bros got hot in the second half. Lame duck coach Fred Hoiberg is 1-16 this season and continues to be the worst coach in the B1G. MSU beat Purdue and is tied for fifth with the Hawkeyes
Iowa basketball has been on fire lately! The women’s team had two big wins over Indiana, and Fran’s Hawkeyes have won 5 of 6. A road win at #18 Ohio State was followed up with a home win over the Spartans and the angry leprechaun! Postseason could be fun this year!
The Hawkeyes lost by five at home to Michigan. They were tied for 7th place in the B1G coming into this game, both with 7-6 records. Now, Iowa is alone in 8th place at 7-7 with a tough schedule over the next few days. Ken O’Keefe is moving out of the QB coach role and into an analyst position. Who will the Hawkeyes target for this opening?
The Hapless Hoibergs came to Carver-Hawkeye, looking for a two game B1G win streak and their second overall conference win. By halftime, this game was over with the Hawkeyes leading 53-25 en route to a three game winning streak. Keegan Murray went off for 37 points. Congrats to Alaric Jackson and Jake Gervase for getting rings!
My one Mac story and remembering the legend. The Hawkeyes played brilliantly on offense led by Jordan Bohannon’s 10 three point makes and Keegan Murray’s ridiculously efficient 30 points on 12 of 14 shooting at Maryland. Iowa gets back to .500 with a road win, breaking the arena record with 110 points in a 110-87 victory.
Caitlin Clark had another amazing performance on the road against the Wolverines. Assistant Billy Taylor led Iowa to a win and a season sweep of the Gophers with a 12 point home win. There are nine regular season games left and a lot of opportunities to improve the post-season resume.
It was a rough loss for the Hawkeyes against Penn State on Saturday, and a win over the Gophers on Sunday is vital for this team to stay relevant. The Hawkeyes got a new football recruit, and Hawkeye wrestling is a must watch for any Hawkeye fan.
Iowa struggled on offense against the Boilers. Three point shooting continues to hurt the Hawkeyes. The Boilers shot lights out from three and from two. Kris Murray continues to look better and better and needs more minutes going forward.
Keegan Murray led the Hawkeyes in scoring, and Kris Murray was second with 13 points off the bench. The Hawkeyes got back to .500 in the league at 4-4. After a rough first half of rebounding, the Hawkeyes dominated the boards in the second half to secure the home league win.
The Iowa Hawkeyes beat Indiana at home and Minnesota on the road at the Barn to move to .500 in conference play. The trip to New Jersey did not go as planned with a lid on the basket and the Hawkeyes losing 48-46. Three point shooting is becoming a concern for the Hawkeyes.
The Hawkeyes travelled to Madison on Thursday and fell to 1-3 in the B1G after being out rebounded by an incredible number once again. Keegan Murray with another amazing game, and Brad Davison was Bad Brad Davison again. Please don’t give him another year of eligibility!
The Hawkeyes needed a win after starting 0-2 in the B1G and got that win on Monday against Maryland. Danny Manning’s squad put up a fight but the Hawkeyes were able to get in the win column in conference play. Next up…the dreaded Badgers with the worst style of play in America. Let’s get to .500!!
The Hawkeyes offense struggled in the first half with not enough emphasis on running the ball. The second half saw a comeback to take the lead 17-13, but the Hawkeyes ended the game on two three and out drives and gave up a big play to Wan’Dale Robinson. Special teams didn’t do anything spectacular in this game, and the Hawkeyes lost the turnover battle against a team with one of the worst turnover margins in the NCAA.
Iowa hosted Western Michigan for its last non-conference game prior to resuming B1G play. The Hawkeyes advanced to 10-3 with Maryland up next. Danny Manning will be coaching the Terps as interim coach for Maryland. Who will be QB on Saturday???
The Iowa Hawkeyes face the Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl! Kentucky is 9-3 but also had a soft schedule. Georgia is the only other good team in the SEC East, and the Wildcats played multiple directional and state schools. A former Hawkeye player faces the Hawkeyes as a head coach once again.
