We’re an interracial couple based in Beijing (currently). We’re American and Chinese. We have two cats! We think we have something to say that is probably not legit. We’ll be discussing some serious and not-so-serious topics about everyday life in China (for now) from our own perspectives.

Zachary: I am a constantly embarrassed monolingual English speaker who has at times been able to speak a little bit of some off-the-wall languages including Arabic and Croatian. Now I'm starting to learn Kazakh and Mandarin. Aliya and I talk about our experiences learning languages and some related topics.
Aliya: I am a proud Chinese and Kazakh speaker who is striving to master English in the future. I am always fascinated by language as it is the gate to have a peek at a different culture. Hey! I hope you guys are doing well. TBH, we were both quite nervous about taking the big step to post our stories online. Well, it's just Zachary... For the first episode(I accidentally deleted the actual first episode, so this is the second one.), I want to incorporate something personal, hence the couple Q&A. Zachary and I both lived in Beijing, China, for a couple of years, and we genuinely grew together as a couple. I always thought our private discussions were fun, and maybe there will be people out there who want to hear, too. So, this is truly a podcast for us to document our lives and maybe bring some light to you.
The first episode includes questions I gathered online and also some fun cultural stories (I used to read them on Chinese social media.) that I saved for the discussion. I often feel self-conscience about myself, my appearance, my English language proficiency, etc. Personally, this is a way to overcome my insecurities and be a better and stronger version of myself. I wish Zachary could write something here, but he is asleep, so maybe next time...
