THE UNCHAINED GOSPEL: Recent Episodes

Geoff Desiato

“The gospel is like a caged lion. It does not need to be defended; it just needs to be let out of its cage.” ~Charles Spurgeon The Unchained Gospel is a movement geared toward awakening Christians to the reality of what it meant to be a Christ-follower in the 1st century AD, and what it should mean for us today. Following the model of the Apostles of proclaiming the name of Jesus in the public square, The Unchained Gospel is looking for a community of people to take the message of the gospel outside of the four walls of church building, where it is acceptable and easily palatable, and take it out to the streets and marketplaces with gritty, grassroots, and bold proclamations of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to let the lion (the gospel) out of its cage by boldly proclaiming the good news in a public setting, so that it can overpower and overthrow the work of the enemy and ultimately set the captives free from their bondage to sin and death.

This podcast is a mix of recorded sermons and commentary on world events from a biblical worldview.

We all like a good mystery, especially when we are the first person to solve it. Nothing beats the feeling that comes from figuring out the ending to a movie before it happens and spoiling it for everyone. But none of us could dream up a mystery as intricate and intimate as the God of all creation. Paul uses chapter 3 of Ephesians to reveal this mystery, but in order to fully understand this great mystery we need to get into a little history.

Now that we have been reconciled to God through Jesus, it is important that we establish a firm foundation. A major part of that foundation is in the understanding that God not only reconciles us back to Himself, but He also brings all people (Jews and Gentiles) together as one in Christ.

Thanks be to God for Jesus Christ, without whom all mankind would be at odds with God for all eternity. He alone bridges the great chasm of separation caused by our sinful rebellion.

There is nothing harder to comprehend than the grace of God. It is human nature to want to bring something to the table. We are trained from a very young age to be independent, to carry our own weight if you will. That’s why God’s grace confounds the great minds of this world, while a simple child is somehow able to grasp it.

So many people want to know God’s will and His calling on their life, but they don’t turn their eyes from distracting things and onto the Lord. They often forget to silence their phones in church. I guess there are other calls that are just as important as the one the Lord has placed on our life. These same people find it hard to follow Jesus’ teachings, but they have no problem “following” their favorite celebrities online.

The book of Ephesians has been called the Holy of Holies of the New Testament. In the first fourteen verses alone you find truths that you could spend a lifetime trying to fully understand and still come up an eternity short. In these verses we see God’s predetermined purpose enacted by each person of the Trinity.

Do we realize the danger that sin poses on our relationship with God? Sin is not just something fun and pleasurable that God doesn't want us to take part in; Sin is ultimate and eternal separation from God apart from the blood of Jesus.

Christians often live in fear of the consequence of their sin instead of having a fear of the power of sin itself. A fear of sin’s consequence is not enough to cause us to maintain a safe distance from sin, but a healthy fear of the sin that nailed Jesus to the cross and of the enemy who desires to sift us as wheat is integral to keep us in unbroken communion with God.

In this week's episode, Geoff discusses the importance of the fear of the Lord and how it is lacking in current Christian culture. God is holy and has called us to be holy. But we cannot be wise and walk worthy of our calling unless we have a fear and reverence for Almighty God.

This story shows us that God often works in the improbable to do the impossible so that no flesh will glory in His presence.

Sexual intimacy was created by God as a picture of the intimacy He desires to have with His people. The way that union is accomplished is by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This is why Satan wants to corrupt God's image-bearers by getting them involved in sexual immorality, and counterfeits the Holy Spirit's influence using the intoxicants of the world. These are direct attacks on the image of God in an attempt to rob God of His glory.

In part two of the "Walk This Way" series, Geoff discusses how God created mankind in His image and likeness, but sin distorted our purpose. Believers can be renewed and transformed into the image of Christ because God provided the remedy for sin when He came down in the likeness of men and died on the cross for our sins. The sermon text is Ephesians 4:17-5:2

In light of recent events, and the ongoing effort to politicize every news story, it is time for the Church to silence the divisive media voices and take a step back to see how these events, opinions, and movements are to be handled in the light of the Gospel. The sermon text Luke 8:26-39.
