Just as we have learned to interact with people online, we must also learn how to interact in the physical world. Building solid relationships is an essential part of life. In today's society, it can be challenging, given modern life's fast-paced and often disconnected nature. Whether at work, home, or school, we all have relationships with other people with unique personalities and interests. However, mutual understanding goes a long way in building strong personal connections.

Ultimately, it would help if you made it a point to have regular conversations with those around you to build healthy and supportive relationships—romantic or professional ones. The best practice is to keep open communication channels, ensuring you don't cut off vital information in favor of potentially hurt feelings.

The Five Pillars of Success by Maines and FamilyPeople often use a metaphor to describe obstacles they face along the road to achieving their goals: "crushing rocks." This metaphor refers to a person's desire to achieve something and overcome many obstacles. Although there is pressure on everyone to be perfect, many people want to help others succeed. One must understand the basics first to understand more advanced concepts better. (1) Be consistent.(2) Be patient.(3) Work hard.(4) Keep it positive.(5) Don't give up!In Conclusion, Crushing rocks may seem like something other than an accomplishment. Still, when you consider the bigger picture, you understand how your daily actions impact the world around you.Brought to you by MentUp. The procurement process is a formal means of procuring goods, services, and construction for the federal government. The competition process has been established to ensure that government agencies are maximizing competition, providing opportunities to businesses within various socioeconomic statuses set by law. The process may seem rigid but there are many reasons why it is structured this way. The law requires agencies to use best-value procedures, usually through competition to ensure the government is spending taxpayers' money in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and receiving fair and reasonable offers.

· The goal is to maximize competition among sellers and award a contract to those who can provide the best value at those prices. In other words, agencies must avoid selecting a source that charges unreasonably high rates or includes unnecessary requirements in their proposals.

· To help identify the best value, agencies have developed procurement policies that require the evaluation of factors such as price and technical aspects of an offer.

· Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) state that the government may award contracts without competition when it is in the best interest of the Government as well as when services or supplies are available from only one source or where time constraints exist.

· Finally, ensure there are checks and balances, no conflicts of interests, and government employees and/or contractors are not misusing taxpayers’ money.

It's all about the PEOPLE, people. - By S. Maines

Organizations must maintain healthy relationships with their employees; otherwise, there will be high turnover even with competitive wages and benefits packages. I believe it is because we underestimate the power of relationships. We think that people leave their jobs, but this is not true. My twenty years of observations led me to believe that most people leave their jobs because of other people (e.g., colleagues, supervisors, and management.). They quit talking to them, listening to them, respecting them, and eventually trusting them.

Our critical roles as supervisors, leaders, and facilitators are to produce a thriving workforce that is more positive for patients and customers. We must remember that result-driven success is about PEOPLE! Everyone has value and contributes to the overall atmosphere of your organization. If there is no positive culture regarding the company and its employees, employees will likely seek employment elsewhere.

How do you deal with people's issues? You build confidence in the people you manage and the people who work for you by making sure they feel valued, respected, and recognized for the contributions they make. Because if they don't feel valued, respected, and realized, why should they continue to work hard for you? They won't!

It's time we move past the culture of employee blaming and start envisioning solutions that will allow us to retain talents through improved management and stronger interpersonal relationships. A good leader can keep (or help create) a strong core of skill and expertise. We cannot deny that change is inevitable in business. Still, we can establish a culture that embraces the positive aspects of people's personalities and allows them to thrive. We keep them around longer by changing our approach to dealing with people, which applies to personal or professional relationships.

The bottom line upfront is this: If you don't make an effort to value your employees and let them know, it's just a matter of time, and they are out of the door. I observed this trend over the past twenty years and still see it today. I often work with companies that have turnover issues. I spent much time talking to management, HR, and peers of the newly departed to find out why they left. The same things keep coming back:

· They feel undervalued.

· They feel like opinions do not matter.

· Their managers do not care about their concerns.

· Their managers are not good communicators.

· Management does not trust them.

· Management does not reward them for their hard work.

Business 101 - Customer Service and Success (Profit) by S. Maines

Customers are essential to any business's existence, and survival depends on it. To succeed in your business endeavor, you must stay connected with your customers and not deviate from your mission to solve customers' problems on time. You must stay connected with your target audiences by being relevant to their ways of thinking, needs, and wants, but do not forget your business objective(s). In general, you want to connect with your audiences, and nothing is more permanent than an emotional connection. Suppose you break a personal relationship with your customer. In that case, you will leave them with a permanent scar about your lousy business practice.

Without a doubt, as a business owner, you are considered a professional within your chosen industry. The social contract you have signed indirectly is that some formality now bounds you, and you must conform to your new social codes. However, try to stay neutral from one size fits all because each customer is different, has different thought processes, lifestyles, wants, and needs. The best way to keep out of two social extremes of doing too much or too little is to remain neutral. By this, you make sure you provide customized attention to each individual based on their issues on hand.

You become the best employee of the business and your best brand ambassador by not selling yourself short but communicating with your customers about your company, products, and services in layman's terms. A business is your domain, you are a brand, and people already know that, so don't try to impose something other than focusing on your mission. Your mission is to solve a customer's problem effectively and efficiently without coercing customers to give you praise for the work you got paid to do.

It takes two to tango, so it is good to stay optimistic when making business plans and to execute business decisions like an expert. It will set the tone on how the interactions and transactions will end. You want to run a smooth operation besides a few hiccups here and there. The point is that you want to be confident, but don't forget to be friendly and respectful; it's a sheer balancing act.

Tell your story and convince your current and new customers to become your repeat customer. You want to make sure you describe and inform others with full intent. Your intention matters, and when you are not genuine, your customers will know. There is nothing more defeating than losing customers, especially the repeat customers, and losing cash.

Invest time in people, and they will drive better results. - S. Maines.

Whatever the circumstances, whether it is your personal or professional relationship, you must invest in your people. The most important investment you can make is sharing a little bit of your time with people. It reassures that each individual is important, and not only do you value their contributions but also value each individual as their own person. The moment we forget to recognize an individual as a person, we demotivate and devalue that person. In such, you will come across as arrogant and misunderstood by those who you are connected to by personal and professional circumstances.

As the decision-maker in your household or at your business, you must understand that time is the most valuable commodity that we do not have enough of. When we spend a little bit of our time with others to listen to them and say thank you, it makes a big difference. Those that you are spending time with feels appreciated, and it will help them see you in a different light. They will willingly offer their time and contribute to your cause, and you don't even have to ask them.

Certainly, the money will help you gain much in life, but you understand more about who they are and their interests, mindsets, and skillsets when you spend time with others. You would have a much more intimate connection with your loved one, family, and friends in a personal relationship. In a business setting, you would align the right people with the right skillsets based on each individual's strengths and interests, which will help you achieve more in less time and save you money.

You must be ready to spend time with your family, friends, and business associates if you want to be more effective, efficient, and profitable. Don't hide behind the fallacy of corporate garbage, be a person, and treat others the way you would like to be treated, and they would like to be treated as well. Don't just invest in technology, big, house, big, car, big office, fancy wine, these are wasteful ways of trying to achieve mediocre results. History tells us that beauty doesn't last forever when left unattended. Invest in your people, and they will drive better results.

Over the years, I have watched many companies grow, and some continue to blow. The corporate culture lacks authenticity, accountability, diversity, ethics, and integrity. Of course, you will be given pamphlets with beautiful images and sugary words to fatten you up, but the reality behind closed doors speaks a different story. Many will emphasize that "Human Resources (HR)" is the center of an organization and is there to look out for the employees' best interests. However, you have to remember that HR is there to protect the businesses, so you have to do your best and protect your interests as an individual and a business professional.

The carnivorous corporate folks care more about the headcounts and short-term profits that they are willing to waste money and time to force a fish to climb a tree to make their investors happy. In the process, they alienate skillful workers. They do not align the right people with the right skillsets to the right positions to serve the organization. It is a trend that is not going anywhere soon, so those who care about authenticity, accountability, diversity, ethics, and integrity must learn to deal with the corporate culture creatively.

We need to restructure the corporate culture, so you, as an individual with power, can become the Change Agent to help elevate those who work with you and still make a profit. You can provide a practical solution to the problem most companies talk about by not wasting valuable resources and willing to take actions humanely. There is nothing more important than human capital; even if you become dependent on Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI), you will still need skilled people.

If you quantify the money corporations spend hiring leadership and business consultants to waste time and money, you would be horrified. It is very similar to trillions spend on geopolitical conflicts and space missions, while people living in poverty lack fundamental human rights and resources to live humanely. It's essential to allocate resources to support everyone because not doing the right thing today will backfire in the long run.

Businesses can spend money directly on employees to lift them personally and professionally, and still have money left over for whatever wastefulness it wants to spend. Companies need to invest in employees and drop the bureaucracy, politics, and gossips. Provide humanely living salary, education, training, and resources to equip each individual to improve their ability, capacity, and capability to support an organization to operate cost-effectively and efficiently.

Realistically speaking, HR is there to protect the businesses, and that is okay. But improving the lives of people will help the organization tremendously. There will be more productivity, fewer lawsuits, reduced wasteful spending in hiring and firing, and other legal HR-related dramas. Let's drop all theatricals and invest in people. A CEO is only as good as his janitor, and if both can't sit at the same table to eat lunch, then there is a problem. When you depart this living world, your money, fame, and title will not go with you, so do what's humanely and ethically practical, and do it with integrity.

A CEO is only as good as his janitor, and HR is there to protect the business. -Shaun Maines
