We are two practitioners that put augmented and virtual reality technologies into factories and other industrial environments. We couldn't find a channel or podcast aimed at those of us focusing on practical applications of XR in industry, so we decided to start our own. This isn't the consumer metaverse; it's happening today for real workers.
XR At Work will give you ideas, insights, and advice for utilizing emerging technologies like augmented and virtual reality in your factories and other rugged environments.
Subscribe if interested in the use of AR/VR/MR and related tech.

It used to be that when we would think about using emerging technologies for safety it was all about the frontline workers. Of course it still is! However, now we have remote workers that are facing injuries, a virus that has swept across the globe and an ever-changing definition of what health and wellness means. Today, the XR at Work guys talk about: a. How to work with your Enterprise Health & Safety (EHS) division b. Device considerations when putting XR on the heads (and in the hands) of factory workers c. Geo-fencing applications We also get a little bit in to the future of device convergence. As always, our opinions are our own and not the opinions of our employers.
Today the XR at Work guys talk about how to scale a recent "win"' with a pilot project to the larger enterprise. The way you handled these in the beginning likely won't work for the long-haul: 1. Procurement of devices and software (Big difference between buying one and buying 50.) 2. Security (We have to tell the Security Group what we're up to.) 3. Device Management (that spreadsheet is not going to cut it!) 4. Application Management (Who has what version?!) 5. User Support (They're going to need help for a long time....) 6. Analytics and Reporting
In this episode, Scott and Dane discuss when you should use non-spatial or spatial guided workflows for training and support in the factory. Non-spatial workflows use tablets (or non-spatial head-mounted devices) to deliver text, images and videos to workers on the floor where and when they need it in a format that is easy to use. Spatial workflows utilize spatially aware devices to walk a user from point-to-point to consume important information in a sequence of tasks that need to be performed. All videos used in this podcast are with permission or public domain from the producer. Opinions expressed are our own and not of our employers.
In this episode Dane and Scott talk about remote expert:
What it is
How it's used
Devices for remote expert
Some "gotcha's" to look out for
The XR At Work Crew also shares some future predictions for how this capability might morph and grow.
In today's episode, Scott and Dane break down how they started putting XR in to manufacturing facilities.
Solutions that are bringing a lot of value to training and support for industry are:
Remote Expert
Digital Work Instructions or Guided Workflows
360 experiences for training and support
VR experiences for training
