How different is church outside the west from what we experience here in the West? Well it varies but some of the deeper concepts of what we can learn from church outside the west should really be explored as to how we can model the Christian faith better. Controversial topic today. This stems out of many years of exposure to Christian music and an observation that much of it is lame and cheesy. Note I didn't say all. But I've noticed that the songs and groups that are largely known by us lack something, especially musically, that those who aren't in the Christian branding tend to have a better grasp of that. If we're going to share the gospel through music, shouldn't it be good? Shouldn't we have the capacity to set the trend and not follow the trend? I sat down with my friend Ryan Smith, Nashville music producer, former worship pastor and lead singer in a band, to discuss it.

But it seems that as we've continued to philosophize we've moved away from valuing the Bible as God's Word. Chad Wallen, founder of Advance Camp USA, a day camp for fatherless boys, is a man on a mission. One that seeks to help young boys learn about personal identity, fishing, welding, automotive and all the while DEMONSTRATING who Jesus is and that He truly cares and thinks they're rad.
True Christianity will take action and do the uncomfortable. Chad saw a need and recognized that God was talking to him, about the fatherless epidemic. He’s doing something unique and serving a very unique population.

I'd like to continue this discussion about what Christianity is. So today I'll do a little comparison on some attributes of what a real life Christian is and compare it against things that seem to show up in our lives. Sure, we're growing past these things, or God hasn't delivered me from it, or God "didn't tell me that's for me" are things that might come to mind. I'm gonna push back on some of the things we, as a people, can get caught living in, that really are not part of our new DNA make up as a people who has been touched by the Almighty.

There are various little phrases that have deeper or subtle meaning. Many would call these cliches. And many are cliche. And yet the meanings of these little phrases often get overlooked due to the overuse or over simplification of a point. What's up with the dull Christianity we present? I don't buy it. Very few do. But it's not necessarily because it isn't true. It's because we've presented a lifeless false version of Christianity, and that's dumb. The life of God is available to us. Not just life that's good, that's real too, but the life of GOD HIMSELF. But it seems to be missing many times. The everyday Christian goes about doing regular life and does the church thing but it's not transformative. As I post this podcast something interesting is happening at Asbury University. And that's cool. Something special is there. Is it hype? We'll see. But it does seem to be powerful and unique. Join me for a discussion about moving a Christianity that moves away from lifelessness and toward a rad and full, not dull, life.

We Christians need to do a better job of being able to understand where people are coming from reducing hypocrisy going deeper to be able to share answers that are available. Seems pretty obvious. But do we realize the effects of our missing the mark has on people. If we did would it change anything? Sometimes Church doesn't fulfill its duty. We do the things we're not supposed to do and we don't do the things we're supposed to do. Sound familiar? It should. The Apostle Paul said this about himself. He also lists off a bunch of items that are "...what you WERE". There's tension there. In this episode I'll share an overview of some of the hurts that I've been through by people in the church. But it doesn't end there. Today on the Christianese Podcast we talk about a frequently addressed flaw in our Christian subculture. It's a hot topic that has been asked in our culture for a long time. This one could get a little controversial. Have you ever had someone say something to the effect of, “Christians are so judgmental” or “stop judging me” or some other way of putting that sentiment? Of course you have that's because those are REAL observations.
Judgmental people is the subject of today's discussion. A spot we Christians need to make some serious improvements on and lead the way into treating people the way God wants them treated.

You see a person on the street. They look scary. And for good reason. They are a dangerous person. That individual has hurt people, bad. Is a drug dealer. In fact they've been in the drug and violence "business" for 27 years. Many would say they are beyond hope. But the REAL Jesus, breaks past all the shell and gets in that guy's face and soul. That's today's episode. A dude that was living a life more rough than many can imagine. And The Gospel came and changed his life forever.

Why do Christians say weird things? As humans most of us tend to use cliche language and say things that don't make sense to people that aren't part of the culture. What I find "silly" is when Christians do it. I get it, we're trying to say something condensed. But sometimes we say things that just don't make sense. Especially when talking to people who don't believe like we do. It's like speaking Greek to someone who only knows how to speak French. It just doesn't add up. Today we'll take a lighter look at some of the bumper sticker Christianity (see I just used one, we're all guilty!) and just discuss a few things we can adjust with how we're aware of our language.

There are plenty of true perspectives about what the church is doing wrong. But also, the Church can do some pretty great things to serve the people that Jesus told us to serve. Today we talk to a fella who has been doing church in a different way than what's been done the last several decades. He's bringing back a model of church that reaches to the broken, aching and destitute. They are welcoming and kind and all do church in a way the Church hasn't done it in awhile. You know what? It looks like it's having an effect sharing the message Jesus told his followers to give. Love others. Give them a truthful, healing and hopeful message and their soul receives an authentic touch. Pretty rad.

Words mean a ton! We use and abuse words in our society. After a nice long fire pit chat my friend Skyler and I thought the discussion of defining love would be a great discussion "around the table" on Christianese. How do Christians define love and how does that play into how society defines it? Where do we have common ground? Let's talk about it.
Saying weird Christiany things and answering questions with minimally thought out answers does not do well to share the deeper parts of the Christian faith. Today we discuss a few things related to being relatable to people who starkly disagree with the worldview we carry.
