With a lot of applications to upgrade to the new Laravel 8, the prospect of hand updating each app motivated me to look into a long simmering, but somewhat crazy, idea: turn the base Laravel app into a package Then, update the package with the Laravel app updates. Finally, update each of my apps via composer update of my new package. It works!
