This week we get an introduction to the new Primary Presidency. You’ll hear from president Taylor Hartman, first counselor Rosa Young, second counselor Rylee Burwell, and secretary Nichole Mace. All terrific women with immense desires to serve! Personally, I think they are all pretty awesome.
And this gives me a formal opportunity to thank the outgoing Primary presidency: Cari Hernandez, Sue Sale, and MaryAnn Aggabao. I’m sure I can speak for the whole ward, when I say we sincerely appreciate the sincere, inspired service of those dedicated women. Our children were truly blessed by their efforts!

I’m excited to share this episode with you where I interview Sarah Glasmann. Sarah is originally from Nigeria and she and her husband and cute daughter moved into our ward just a few months ago. Today she shares how her testimony grew through the miracles surrounding her father’s faith, through finding Christ in her darkest moment, and being stretched through callings.
A special treat today! An interview with Marlene Hill, who has been living in a long-term care facility for a few years. Marlene has been a member of our ward for decades and we have missed having her in our midst. Today she shares how her faith grew through life trials like divorce and loss of loved ones.
And a big welcome to the newest member of our podcast team: Kendra Dahle! She conducts this interview with Marlene.

She grew up in southern California, studied elementary education in college, homeschools her kids and loves to garden. Cari currently serves as the primary president in our ward.

She enjoys reading, interior design, exercise, and serving as a volunteer for the Days for Girls project. She currently serves as the email communications specialist in our ward which means she’s the one sending you those helpful emails with the ward bulletin and other church information.
In this interview, Brooke shares how her faith was strengthened by two miraculous experiences in her youth, as well as through good people and influences throughout her life.
Today you get to hear an interview with Kendra Dahle. Kendra and her family have been in the ward for about 6 years, and she currently serves as a Sunday school teacher.
In this interview she shares experiences like her first husband going to prison when she was pregnant with twins, choosing to come back to church as she raised them on her own, feeling God’s support during a loved ones’ suicide attempt and finally realizing the blessing of being sealed to all her children.
Welcome back sisters! Today I’m happy to share with you aninterview with Laura Gastelum. Laura and her family have been in the ward for 8years. She grew up in San Luis Obispo, studied to be a teacher in college.Laura loves to read, kayak, walk, and collect heart rocks. She also enjoys volunteeringin her kids’ classes and being their biggest and loudest cheerleader. Afterstanding next to her at our kids’ band events, I can personally vouch for thatlast one.
Time to brag about Laura. From the time I moved into theward she has been so generous. If she gets the slightest idea that you needsomething, she is ready to share whatever she has. I truly believe Laura is thekind of person that would give you the coat off her back. Also, Laura is very kindand accepting. She talks in the episode about not judging her sister for herchoices, and I have seen that side of Laura. She is inclined to love before sheis inclined to find fault. I’m grateful for her friendship.

Hello Sisters! Today we share an interview with Catherine Goold. Catherine and her husband have been in the ward for 16 years and have 3 grown children. She in three different fields and currently serves as a primary teacher for the 8-year-old class.
Catherine lives basically around the corner from me and we have seen them walking their dogs around our block or in the neighborhood and its always a treat to run into them. I love Catherine and her family. As you’ll hear in this interview, she is a very positive person with a can-do attitude. She’s also very pragmatic and is great at keeping commitments and getting the job done.

Welcome back! Today’s episode has been a long time in the making and I am so pleased to share this interview with Nikki Steers with you. Nikki and her family have been in the ward for about 6 years, she has four children, she works for a caregiver support organization, and currently serves as a primary teacher.
Okay what I love about Nikki – ! Nikki is thoughtful – she thinks deeply about questions I ask her or subjects I bring up. She’ll often do a little research after we talk about something and bring me more info or insight. She has a wonderfully curious and bright mind. And she is just plain fun to hangout with, as you’ll hear from all our laughter together on this interview.
Today she shares many of her spiritual “lampposts” including experiences that taught her how to hear the Holy Ghost in different ways than her parents did and how difficult relationships within the Church caused her to examine and ultimately strengthen her own testimony.

Today we get to know Eileen Swann. She moved into our ward just four months ago from Fiji by way of France. She has 5 children, and 10 grandchildren. Eileen currently serves as a service missionary with the BYU Pathways program.
Today she shares how the doctrine of eternal families attracted her to the Church, and how going through a divorce and the loss of a grandchild helped her trust in God.

Hello Sisters! Today you get to hear from …me! A few months ago, Nikki – my partner in crime- suggested that we interview each other so that we would know what it feels like for all of you to go through this process. The intention was to publish them at some future date, preferably in the distant future. Well, the way things worked out, we didn’t have any other interviews ready to go this week, so we decided to finally dust off mine and publish it.
By way of bio, my husband and I are the parents of 4 fun kids, I studied secondary education teaching at BYU, I have a side hustle as a content writer, and I currently serve as the Relief Society president in our ward.
In this interview conducted by Nikki, I share how my faith has grown and changed through serving a mission, miscarriage, confronting doctrinal complexity, and learning to harness priesthood power through temple covenants.
Today we get to know Shannon S. Shannon and her family moved into the ward in May 2022. She and Jeremy have been married for 8 years and have 3 children. Roya is 4, Allison is 3 and Garrett is almost 1 year old. Shannon is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. She also has a background in teaching yoga and meditation. Her interests include writing, public speaking, singing, health and life sciences, nutrition, exercise and fitness and entrepreneurial endeavors. She currently serves as a ministering secretary in Relief Society.
I have really enjoyed getting to know Shannon since she moved into the ward. She was just a few months away from delivering their third child when they arrived and I got the opportunity to throw her a baby shower while really not even knowing her! I loved getting to learn her personality during that process and I was so humbled by her gratitude for that shower. Shannon and her husband have welcomed my family into her home several times and one time after we arrived and told them about a traumatic fall my husband had that day, Shannon immediately offered to do some physical therapy exercises with him. I know she saved him from what would have been a tremendous amount of pain the next day. So she is generous with her skills and knowledge and I am so grateful for her friendship!

Hello Sisters! Today we get to hear an interview with the multi-talented Marsha Keller, conducted by Nikki Steers. Marsha is a veteran of the 2nd ward, having lived her for 23 years. Between her and her husband, they have 7 kids, and 14 grandchildren. Marsha is a self-proclaimed “Jill of all trades” and currently serves as a primary activity Day leader in our ward.
It has been a pleasure to know Marsha since I moved in six years ago. One thing I love about her is her proactive nature. She is not afraid to get involved and create goodness where she is. She doesn’t wait for great things to happen; she creates great things: gatherings, groups, productions, etc. I also love her desire to welcome people in. After the interview, Nikki couldn’t say enough about how nurturing and inviting Marsha was to her that night and I have experienced that trait of Marsha’s as well. It is a treat to be in her care at her home!
In today’s interview, Marsha shares how her faith has grown through encountering difficult questions, going through divorce, and depression and seeking light in those hard times.
Welcome back to our podcast! This week I interview Nichole Mace. Nichole and her family have been in the ward for just over a year. She grew up in Bakersfield, served a mission in Nicaragua, is a graphic designer by trade, and currently serves as a ward missionary.
Here are two reasons I love Nichole: She is open and real. The very first time I met her she shared some of the really hard parts of her mission, but not in a complaining way, just in a spirit of candor. I was grateful for her willingness to share something vulnerable from our first conversation; it made me feel like going forward, I could share my true self with her as well.
Also Nichole inspires me with her striving. I can tell she’s someone who is constantly searching for more truth and understanding, and to better herself in the process. I have been blessed by the insights she has gained along that process.
Today Nichole shares her journey of faith that includes youth leadership opportunities, dealing with depression as a missionary, and learning to give herself grace. After our interview she sent me another story about experience with miscarriage that I have added immediately after the original interview.

Today we have an interview with the perfectly pleasant Patrice Fry. Patrice and her family moved here right before Christmas last year and they have 6 kids ranging from ages 10 to 20. Patrice is a real estate agent by profession but she is also studying to get a degree in education. She currently serves as one of the CTR 7 teachers.
Here are two things that I have come to love about Patrice in the short time their family has been in our ward: first she wins and loses gracefully. I was recently at a game night with Patrice where she won the very first game and then was the first one knocked out of the second game. Both times she good-naturedly accepted the outcome, despite some teasing around the table. Second, I can tell Patrice is fiercely loyal to her family. I have only ever heard her speak highly and kindly about all her family members and I’m sure that’s rooted in her deep love for them.
In her interview, conducted by Nikki Steers, Patrice shares how her faith in Christ was strengthened through times of job loss, multiple deaths, and a terrifying break-in that required a lesson in forgiveness.
Hello Sisters! Today we have an interview with the phenomenal Melissa. Melissa, her husband and three kids have been in the ward for many years and she works as an ICU nurse. Recently Melissa used her skills to serve our young men as the head AP camp nurse.One thing I love about Melissa is how good she is at inviting. She and her husband were some of the first people to welcome us into the ward and invite us to join in on some activities. And she is great at inviting others to come to church, church activities, and to come to Christ. Another wonderful quality of Melissa is her dependability. When she says she’ll do something, she does it. Welcome back Sisters! Today you get to hear from the charming Mykenna Rodriguez. Mykenna and her family moved into our ward last year. She grew up in Texas, has her degree in nursing, and is raising three beautiful children. She is currently serving as a primary teacher in our ward.
One thing I love about Mykenna is her engaging nature. Before they even officially moved into our ward, Mykenna was making friends with other young moms in our ward, wanting to get on email lists, and altogether wanting to be engaged in her new community. I admire that desire to jump in with both feet, to be ALL In. I also love that she is a very open person, good at making you feel comfortable in any conversation, even about potentially sensitive topics.
In today’s episode MyKenna shares her experiences with the many tender mercies from God that have blessed her life and strengthened her faith, as well as the lessons she’s learned from being a mother and from living with anxiety.
Hello Sisters! In today’s episode we get to hear from the marvelous Meredith Taylor. She and her husband have 5 kids and have lived in our ward for roughly 15 years. Meredith currently serves in the nursery.
Two things I love about Meredith: She is always ready to make a new friend. She was the first person in the ward when we moved in to invite our family over. Her friendliness and interest in us made me feel so welcomed into the ward. She is also so willing to help out. I’ve heard her say her philosophy about raising kids is that it takes a village and she is so good about creating that village by volunteering to help out with rides, babysitting, creating opportunities for our kids to socialize and organizing friends to volunteer at school activities. I love her community-minded spirit!

Welcome back Sisters! I’m so excited to share an interview with the charming and good-natured Gayle Heinbaugh. Gayle and her husband Doug moved into our ward shortly before Covid and they have one grown son. Gayle currently serves as a Relief Society Ministering secretary in our ward and she also works at the temple each week.
And here are two things I love about Gayle: She is a good listener because she can simply sit back and empathize without trying to solve the problems. And also she has a self-deprecating sense of humor that lets you know she’s comfortable with her own human foibles, which always puts me at ease with my weaknesses around her.
I hope you enjoy this interview where Gayle shares her conversion to the gospel as a young teenager, what she learned through becoming legally blind, and how her faith was strengthened while serving as Relief Society President in Santa Rosa after devastating fires destroyed many homes in their ward boundaries.
Today we get a special bonus interview with the wonderful missionaries serving in our ward, Sister Turnbow and Sister Shepherd. Sister Turnbow grew up in Florida before moving to Utah as a teen and she is the youngest of 4 kids. Sister Shepherd is from Utah and is the oldest of 4 kids in her family. Both sisters previously attended BYU and both have just a few months left on their missions. I have loved having these sisters in my home for dinner, having them share their testimonies with my children and just generally share their light with us.
Welcome back Sisters! This week we get to listen to faith journey of Vijenti Davis. Vijenti and her husband Paul moved into our ward just about a year ago. They have previously lived up and down the state and they have one grown son. Career-wise, Vijenti spent her first 14 years in administration and HR at a big-name firm in Southern California, before switching to elementary school teaching, working with kindergartners for 8 years. In our ward, she is currently serving as our ward historian.
Here are two things I love about Vijenti: She has a light about her! From the time I met her, I have been so impressed with her positivity and the way she looks on the bright side of life. It’s a quality that makes spending time with her very enjoyable. Also Vijenti is a great conversationalist. From her experience of working in two completely different field, to growing up in Fiji to traveling the world, she has so many interesting insights to being into every discussion.
Today Vijenti shares with us her stories about her conversion as a girl living in Fiji, her emigration to the United States, and her experiences with prayer, fasting, and scriptures that solidified her testimony of Jesus Christ. I hope you enjoy her interview!
Today we get to hear from the extraordinary Alixe Hatch. Alixe and her husband Preston have been in our ward for 16 years. They have 4 kids and one grandson who was just born last month to her daughter Riley who many of us know. And just for a fun piece of trivia Riley’s baby was 11 lbs! Alixe works part time as an office manager for a local chiropractic office and is currently serving as an advisor for the 16-18 year old Young Women Class.

Today’s episode features the remarkable Vanessa Edwards. Vanessa is the mom of 3 kids and 2 grandchildren and she and her family have been in the ward for 7 years. Since the pandemic she has started homeschooling her teenage children. Vanessa currently serves in our ward as the Relief Society secretary.
Okay, Vanessa is someone I could definitely rave about but I will continue my policy of sticking to just two comments. First, Vanessa is a poster child for self-help and positive transformation. I have watched her blossom into a much more open and happier person since I’ve known her, as she has embraced her relationship with Jesus Christ and made a study of positive thinking models. She is so thirsty for knowledge and learning on a general level. It is infectious and inspiring! Second, she is an example to me of prayer. When we are stumped in presidency meetings about a particular sister’s need, she reminds us often that we can unite in prayer as a way to bless her life. And that has been so helpful!
Today Vanessa shares how her troubled childhood led her to search for something better, which included the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She explains her path of trying to change generational patterns, working through forgiveness, adopting her two younger children, and learning how to trust again.
Hello again Sisters! Today you will hear from our marvelous Melanie Alconcel. By way of background information, Melanie grew up in Spokane, Washington. She met her husband Brian met at BYU Provo in a Hawaiian Dance class and were married two years later. They are both of Hawaiian descent so connecting to their roots and finding each other in that class was sweet for them. They have now been married for 21 years and have three children, and two dogs, Molly and Alice who are also featured at times in this interview. And just FYI, today Brian is better known in our ward as “President Alconcel” as he is currently serving as the second counselor in our stake presidency.
They lived in Citrus Heights and Natomas before settling in Roseville in 2016. Melanie has a Design degree in Interior Architecture from UC Davis and she loved working in that field both for a private firm and as a UCD lecturer in the design department. Recently she has gone back for a degree in Music.
Here’s two things I love about Melanie: she is a very intentional person in her life choices, parenting, callings, and relationships. When her youngest was little, she started and led a Mommy and Me Music time at her home each week and invited me and several others to join in because she wanted to create that experience for Ender. Also, Melanie is a great example of inviting others to Christ. I frequently see new faces sitting with them on the pew in Church, a sign that sharing their faith is an integral part of the Alconcel lifestyle.
In her interview, Melanie takes us on her journey from simple faith through challenging complexity and coming out on the other side with simplicity of belief again. She shares several experiences from her youth with prayer and fasting that cemented her understanding of God and helped her weather later life storms like seven years of infertility and difficult financial situations.
Today we get to hear from our marvelous Kathy Goulding. One of the things I love about Kathy is how much she loves to serve. Not only does she volunteer for all sorts of things, but she is also very tuned in to the needs of those around her. I have often gotten calls from her alerting me to a need of a sister in the ward as well as things she's already done to try to help. I also love her ability to make good conversation and help those around her feel at ease in her presence.As a little background to Kathy, she and her husband have been in the ward for over 6 years, they have 4 children and 11 grandkids. She talks about some hobbies in the episode but one she forgot to mention is her love of travel. She describes herself as having perpetual wanderlust. The farthest she's every traveled is China.Kathy is currently serving in primary teaching with Lynae Bowler and, in her words, they have the cutest Sunbeam class. It’s a nice large group with 7 three-year-olds.So here's Kathy Goulding being interviewed by Nikki Steers. She shares how she learned to trust in God with the sudden passing of her father and how she has shared the gospel throughout her life in normal and natural ways.
I’m excited to share an interview with Rachel Marsh with you today. Rachel and her family have been in the ward for about 7 years. She and her husband have 5 kids and 3 grandkids and a 4th on the way. Their daughter Ellie - who many of us know - is due very soon.
Rachel currently works as the school secretary at Buljan Middle School and also serves as the ward organist and primary pianist.
In today’s interview, Rachel essentially shares just one story, what is was like for her when her parents decided to leave the church. It’s a question many of us have had to ask ourselves: what will happen to our testimony if those closest to us, whose faith we may have relied on, decide to step away from their membership in the restored Church. Rachel’s journey is both relatable and inspiring.
Hi again Sisters! Today we get to learn a little more about Kayla Meldrum. Kayla and her husband John have been in the ward for several years now. Kayla grew up in the tiny town of Bangor, California near Oroville. She is a massage therapist for a local health spa and also handles the company's social media. That job has spurred her on to start BYU's pathway program, where she is currently working on a degree in communication.
Here are two things that I love about Kayla: First, even though she expresses struggles with anxiety I love the resilience and optimism that Kayla exudes about life. Second, I love that Kayla is very real in her conversations and doesn't shy away from talking about genuine issues and problems that we all face. Today her faith journey and how God showed up in her life amidst divorce, anxiety, stepping away from the church for a decade, and LGBT issues in her family. I appreciate her honesty and desire to tackle subjects head on.
On that note, most of the people that have been featured on our podcast have told us stories about very difficult experiences in their lives. I’m sure it can be hard to recount these personal and sometimes painful stories. But there is purpose in this sharing. I recently heard a quote from Sister Reyna Aburto, a former member of the Relief Society general presidency. From the pulpit and in church videos she has shared many difficult times in her life: about her father’s alcoholism, mental illness and suicide, the death of her brother when she was young and the traumatic effect that had on her. She shared about how her first marriage failed and how scary it was to start over while caring for her young son all alone. Man- talk about keeping it real!
She was asked by an interviewer once if sharing her story was hard. This was her answer:
"Yes, it is hard. In fact, I always cry when I tell the story of when my brother died, and all the things that we went through. But then I realized that there is power in telling our stories. That when people tell me their stories, something happens, we become more relatable. And I realize that they are just human beings like I am. And I think that others can see that we are not alone. Of course, we need to follow the Holy Ghost in the way and the time and the context that we tell our story, but at some point I realized that my story does not belong to me. It really belongs to God because He is the one who made me and I also need to be able to testify about the miracles that He has made in my life, and hopefully that can help other people. That God is always around us, that He never leaves us alone, and that we can be the means to help others.”
Isn’t that beautiful? That is my hope for this podcast, sisters. That as we share our stories and what we have learned about God and ourselves along the way, we will be able to connect better with each other, we will see each other as fellow travelers along the covenant path in all our human messiness, and that we will be inspired by each sisters’ strength and courage.

Get ready for an incredibly uplifting hour with Jaimee Wadman where she shares her struggles and triumphs with things like cancer, depression, caring for loved ones with Alzheimers, and making the choice to work in the temple.
As a little background, Jaimee was born in Cedar City, Utah, as the 7th of 9 kids. She and her family lived in Carmichael and San Jose before settling in the Sacramento area by the time she was 11. She and her husband Bryan have three kids: Their daughter Brianna lives in Utah with husband, their son James is currently attending BYU IDaho, and Sophie is a junior in high school. Jaimee currently serves as the Young Women President in our ward.
Welcome back Sisters! Today we get to hear from our wonderful Rosa Young. The Youngs have only been here for about a year and a half, but they have become such a part of the fabric of our ward so quickly that it feels like they have been here much longer. I'm going to embarrass Rosa with some praise here but to know Rosa is to love her. From the time she moved in, she has been quietly serving and ministering to me and so many in our ward. Often when I learn of a need in the ward or Relief Society, I then learn that Rosa has already been there, bringing meals or visiting or just loving. I think her entire day is spent thinking about how to make other's lives easier. I'm so grateful for her friendship!

Today we are highlighting the life and testimony of Sister Bernice Munk. Sister Munk has lived in our ward for many years. As a side note, Her wonderful daughter Linda Speth was our Relief Society secretary until recently when she moved out of state to help her own children. In this interview Bernice shares with us her personality of determination (taking up piano and organ at age 35!) and perseverance (finding meaning and purpose after losing an adult son to the effects of mental illness, losing her husband, and losing the physical ability to work at the temple.)
This interview was conducted at our summer Relief Society activity by Tiffany Coleman and Rebecca Barnett. The interview starts right off with Sister Munk describing the places she and her husband lived. I hope you enjoy getting to know our beautiful Sister Munk!

For our inaugural episode we are featuring the testimony and life story of the amazing Sister Becky Evans. She and her husband Gary have been in the ward for over 15 years as Sun City residents. Becky has been the company leader of the local Daughters of the Utah Pioneer chapter for many years. Sister Evans' life story is an incredible one of miscarriage, losing young children, divorce, starting a new life and career in California, experiencing the ups and downs of testimony, and even having her children kidnapped! Her resilience is so inspiring.
