“Made of Stardust” is a podcast about people who (a)spire to (in)spire. Each one of our guests has a spirited spark to them that breathes life into the people they inspire. We’re all made of stardust, so what is the stellar force that turns aspiration into inspiration? Burlesque Star and Vintage Showgirl Singer, Jolie Goodnight, interviews influential icons of their specific niches to dive deep into what it takes to inspire people, what are celestial catalysts for inspiration, and to cultivate a deeper understanding of what it really means to aspire and inspire. Because originally “inspire” meant “to give breath to.” “in·spire” Middle English enspire, from Old French inspirer, from Latin inspirare ‘breathe or blow into’ from in- ‘into’ + spirare ‘breathe’. The word was originally used of a divine or supernatural being, in the sense impart a truth or idea to someone. Now, more than ever, we can use some extra doses of that breath, that oxygen, that divinity that comes from the people who inspire us.
In the name of all that is Hollywood I am so excited about today’s guest, or rather, star, Brian Karpas. They are a self described “time traveling movie starlet and model and millennial old movie nerd who loves to look at classic cinema through the lens of a modern eye.” Why I want you to know and totally fall in love with Brian is because of their technicolor sight, on instagram as Them Fatale, and sound on the podcast “Vintage Millennial.” The moment you tune into this episode I want you to open your phone and feast your eyes on the dreamy, gorgeous vintage reenvisionings they create. My jaw dropped when I discovered them, because everything they do has the quintessential mix of drama and comedy, retro and now, while taking you into a world you didn’t even know you were missing yet. My guest today is Tammi Savoy, an Award winning Chicago-based International Retro / Vintage vocalist who Sings Soul, Jazz, Blues, and Jump Blues.Imagine a woman with a powerful, soulful voice that nails the classic 40s, 50s and early 60s R&B and rock’n’roll sounds. Now Match that with a great stage presence and a perfect visual adherence to mid-century vintage style…that’s Tammi Savoy.
What made me want to interview her today is her ability to project ease. From her vintage style, to her buttery voice, everything she does is with a smooth air of graceful composure. I’m endlessly inspired by her sense of impeccable style and any time she steps on stage, I’m excited. Before we dive into our conversation, I have to tell you, I got too excited talking with her, and I forgot how to read time and our chat was cut way too short. Oops! I’m joined by international burlesque sensation and a star of stage and screen, Ruby Joule. 21stCentury Burlesque magazine in London named her “the poised porcelain princess of tease,” and she’s won “Most Classic” at the Burlesque Hall of Fame, twice and that’s part of the reason I wanted to talk to her today. Ruby Joule is known for her uncanny ability, through glamour, grace and poise, to transport you to another time. And that’s a special quality, to bring a modern audience, back to 1941 with such ease. In a world that’s obsessed with trends, it’s inspiring to see someone effortlessly reflect such a profound sense of authenticity and glamour throughout her classic inspired career.
