Village Idiot Pizza has proudly served the Columbia community for over 30 years and has been a fixture of the Five Points district since 1990. Five Points, originally known as “Five Points Village”, was the first commercial district outside of Main Street. Dr. Kelsey Fierke graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then moved to Marietta, Georgia to attain her Doctor of Chiropractic at Life University. Chiropractic has been ever present in Dr. K’s life since her dad has been under care for more than 30 years! Her personal experience started at age 13 when she started having low back pain while playing sports. Her chiropractor explained how kids should never be in pain. With regular care, the pain went away; but it was curiosity- wanting to know why that pain went away- that drove Dr. K to continue the path of chiropractic. Dr. Kelsey has been in practice since March 2020 and is focused on providing neurologically based chiropractic care to people of all ages. She has been blessed to take care of new babies as young as a few days old! She has also become a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, and earned the Webster Technique Certification. She continues to study the best ways to help babies function during their most important developmental years. She also has a passion for helping women understand hormonal health and different ways to optimize it. Outside of the office, you can find Dr. Kelsey in the gym throwing around some heavy weights, walking her dogs, or at church with her boyfriend Greg. Day trips to Charleston are her favorite weekend activity, and she looks forward to sharing her famous cookies (a recipe that belonged to her great-great grandma!) with everyone at Columbia Family Chiropractic!

https://www.avodahmassage.com/

Hello there! I am Shannon Livezey, owner and founder of Avodah Massage Therapy here in Columbia SC. I started my massage journey back in 2017 when I was pregnant with my firstborn and in so much pain and discomfort that my husband graciously gifted me a massage membership at a franchise to help ease my discomfort. After my son's birth I continued to go regularly and one afternoon after a massage session an idea popped into my head 'what if I used massage therapy to help heal people's trauma through touch?' I quickly waved that notion away as a nice thought but not one I should pursue as I was sure God's path for me was early childhood policy and advocacy. And he laughed. Soon after our family moved to South Carolina and we were expecting our second son I found doors slamming in my face for every job I wanted. Desperate and stuck in a job I hated, the opportunity to attend school for Massage Therapy presented itself. This time I took the leap and signed up all with the goal of opening my own practice one day and helping transform trauma therapy. Fast forward to the end of 2020 I graduated and quickly went to work for a massage franchise. While I loved using my gifts of intentional touch there, it felt too constraining and I yearned to have a practice where I could spend the time I wanted to with my clients and give them the time they deserve. Near the end of 2022 I met a client who ended up being my friend and business associate Georgia of Peche Skin Co. She was able to provide me with the space and help to open up Avodah Massage Therapy, my dream practice, in April of 2023. Now it is my goal through this business to create a compassionate, loving, and safe space for all of my clients as we walk through the path of healing and wellness together through massage therapy. Thank you for checking out my little space on the internet and I look forward to meeting you on the table!

Sports performance coach Molly Binetti brought her athlete-centered coaching philosophy to South Carolina in June 2018, and the Gamecocks immediately responded to her focus on a holistic development of mind, body and spirit.

“Molly’s passion for women’s basketball was clear right off the bat, and that’s the kind of energy we like in our program,” South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley said. “Her experience with basketball and other sports gives her great perspective, and her research background shows her commitment to her craft.”

In her three seasons on the staff, Binetti’s ability to connect with student-athletes and develop creative and competitive workouts has kept the Gamecocks engaged and on the court throughout the season. South Carolina enjoyed tremendous success in her tenure, especially in the postseason, collecting two SEC Tournament championships and advancing to the 2021 NCAA Final Four following a 2019 NCAA Sweet 16 run.

Binetti joined the Gamecock staff after four seasons at Louisville working with volleyball, softball and women’s tennis. She spent the first three of those seasons as the secondary sports performance coach for women’s basketball as well. At Louisville, she focused on power development and applied sport technologies, a trend she continues at South Carolina. Prior to her tenure at Louisville, Binetti served as the sports performance coach for Purdue’s women’s tennis, men’s and women’s diving and cheerleading teams (2013-14).

The Eau Claire, Wis., native has her Strength and Conditioning Coach certification from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and is listed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She has contributed to two articles published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, both focused on the performance of elite women’s basketball athletes.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from Marquette in 2012, Binetti completed her master’s in kinesiology and exercise science at Minnesota in 2013.

Welcome to the "For Here for the Health of It" podcast with your co-hosts, Dr. Tom and Randy Kloss! We couldn't be more thrilled to have you join us on this journey towards better health and well-being.

In today's episode, we have a very special guest joining us, Emilie Blanchard. Emilie's love for fresh, "real" food is truly inspiring, and we're excited to dive into her story and expertise.

Emilie's passion for the "food body connection" blossomed during her 5-year experience in New York City after college. Working as a full-time trainer and exploring the realms of broadcast news & lifestyle modeling, she witnessed the significance of true health beyond simply being thin. Guiding others to understand the power of "eating the rainbow" and its positive impact on mental and physical well-being brought Emilie immense joy.

After tying the knot in 2017, Emilie and her husband made the decision to leave New York City and return to their roots in Columbia, SC. Uncertain of the career path she wanted to pursue, Emilie knew she wanted to focus on helping people, primarily through food. To create a platform where her recipes could be easily accessed by friends and family, she started her food Instagram account, which quickly became a forum for sharing her culinary creations.

It wasn't long before Emilie's talent caught the attention of a local mother who sought her assistance in leading her family towards a healthier lifestyle. Through word of mouth and the power of social media, Emilie soon found herself cooking for up to 20 families out of her own home within a few short months.

In September 2018, Emilie's dreams became reality as she opened the doors to her first storefront in Columbia, SC. It has been an incredible journey for her, living out her passions and witnessing the transformative effects of real food on people's lives. She firmly believes that once you teach your body to love real food, it will naturally gravitate towards wholesome choices, leading to a sustainable and fulfilling lifestyle.

Join us in this enlightening conversation as we delve deeper into Emilie's experiences and wisdom. We'll explore the power of "eating the rainbow" and how it can truly nourish both body and mind. Get ready to unlock the secrets of a healthier, happier life through the joy of real food.

Thank you for tuning in to the "For Here for the Health of It" podcast with your hosts, Dr. Tom and Randy Kloss. Let's embark on this incredible journey together, embracing the transformative power of food and paving the way toward optimal well-being. Stay tuned for an episode filled with inspiration, insights, and delicious discoveries.

Jason was born and raised in Columbia South Carolina where he graduated from Richland Northeast High School. He briefly pursued a college football career at the University of South Carolina and then at North Greenville College before relocated to Sarasota Florida to attend and graduate from Ringling School of Art and Design in 1998. While in Florida he began competing in numerous triathlons.

After Art school Jason moved to Brooklyn New York in 2001 to work for Dia Center for the Arts in Manhattan. In 2003 he became the Aquatics Director at The Brooklyn Sports Club where he founded and developed their highly successful and well-known Learn To Swim Program. This program laid the foundation for the club’s competitive swim program known as The Brooklyn Sports Club D-Team (Developmental Team), which Jason was the Head Coach and the USA swim club, the BSCAT Swordfish (Brooklyn Sports Club Aquatic Team).

In 2006 Jason attended graduate school at NYU Jason split his time between being an artist, teaching art at NYU and coaching swimming until March 2009 when his wife give birth to twin girls.

Jason Kendall and his family permanently relocated back to Columbia South Carolina where he became a part of Palmetto Aquatics a year-round swim team …where he worked with coach Heath Edwards (Owner of Palmetto Aquatics) from 2009-2011. From 2011-2018 Jason taught art in Richland District Two. After walking away from teaching in June of 2018 he founded “The kendallprojects Media & Design Company” and has built that into a full-time venture with much success creating branding assets for small businesses and organizations in Columbia, such as graphics, video, social media content that are used by those clients to grow their business.

Artist Bio

In addition to being a small business owner Jason has been a successful professional artist for over twenty years. He is an inter-disciplinary contemporary artist who goes by the pseudonym kendallprojects to allow his work to easily transfer across different art genres. Whether it is graphics, film, music, drawings or sculptural investigations they all result in a wide range of altercations that engage his viewers on an experiential level that exploit the viewer’s perceptions and leave them curious about what they are viewing.

kendallprojects” was founded in 1999 in response to the status of a series of multi-media performance works he was developing and needed to expand into a broader, more inclusive way of presenting the ideas together. It made sense to put the endeavor under the heading “project” including all the drawings, costumes, performances, videos, sculptures and installations created. This was also an effort to separate what was happening on the Internet by anyone going by the same name (i.e. musicians/ athletes using Jason Kendall), which is why he took the name kendallprojects. Providing a canopy for all the ideas within the work’s personas to related to identity construction throughout the production.

The packaged components center on a specific theme of investigation that pose precarious creative questions surveying specific interest in ritual and the dynamic relationship people have between work and play. Always in in a state of flux, they are called “projects” to creating narratives that are absurd, silly, aggressive, contradictory, strange, violent or even juvenile depending on the specifics of the project’s context.

Danielle Shealy was such an amazing guest on our show! Her bio is below and you can contact her on her website https://www.lmldmidwifery.com/ or on instagram @lmld_midwifery

My journey with home birth midwifery goes back to the day I was born at home. It not only changed my mother's life forever, but it also changed mine. I was the only one out of four to be born at home. About a year after my birth, my mother became a midwife's assistant. That led her into the passion and joy of midwifery. When I was older my mother went back to school to become a midwife. She is about to celebrate her 10th year as a practicing midwife. Growing up I never would have thought this would have been my calling and path. At the time I was in a Russian ballet company, anything medical was not on my radar. At 17, I graduated high school unsure of my path. By 18, my mother convinced me to attend a few births. This changed my life and heart forever. I witnessed incredible women, doing incredible things, with incredible support and love. I became a DONA certified doula to continue working on birth teams as I started looking into midwifery schools. I obtained my education at the National Midwifery Institute and graduated in 2018. In my apprenticeship I had the great privilege of working with my mother Jami Morris LM, CPM, and Susan Smart LM, CPM,. Following my graduation, I passed the national midwifery boards of NARM. My heart and passion are in midwifery. My joy is in assisting women in one of life's greatest journeys. I truly believe I have the greatest job in the world. The experience of pregnancy and birth has changed over the years, especially in today’s modern era. I believe that the need for caring, sensitive and traditional midwifery practices during this time is becoming more and more apparent. I see every pregnancy and birth as a miracle, and I feel honored to be considered to be a part of your new adventure.
