If you experience irregular periods, there is nothing to be ashamed about. It is extremely common. In practice I regularly see everything from inconsistent cycle lengths to anovulatory cycles and even complete loss of the menstrual cycle. The main causes of this are related to nutritional deficiency or hormone imbalances. This can occur in conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), hypothalamic amenorrhea and hypothyroidism. I myself even dealt with period problems due to hypothalamic amenorrhea.
