In this episode, Dr Marsh shares his journey from his roots as a music teacher to his current role as School Principal. Throughout his journey, he has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, worked as the Director of Music at the Australian International School in Singapore, before returning to Sydney. Dr Marsh emphasises the importance of mentors throughout his journey and shares his insights on teaching and learning.

In this episode of the OSCA Podcast, Lachie Strathmore (‘15) and Scott Montgomery (’85) speak with Arthur Hinton (’19). On 17 February 2024, Arthur will be running 100km from Melbourne to Portsea to raise awareness for Alopecia, which affects approximately 160 million people worldwide.
Since 2017, Alopecia has played a significant part in Arthur's life, when he witnessed a drastic transformation in his appearance, going from having a full head of hair to experiencing the disheartening reality of losing over half of it.
In this episode, Arthur shares his journey of living with Alopecia, and his personal challenge of embarking on a 100k run in order to raise funds and awareness for the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation.

In this episode of the OSCA Podcast, Lachie Strathmore ('15) speaks with Inesh Hensman ('09) about his remarkable journey since finishing at Scotch.
In this episode Inesh shares his story of being diagnosed with a severe kidney disease which left him in and out of hospital for most of his life so far beyond the Monash Gates. Inesh however speaks on how this has provided him with the opportunity to never take anything for granted. Inesh talks about his time travelling overseas, the fortunes of being a part of the workforce, and the importance of family and community. This is a fantastic episode for all those who enjoy a story of overcoming hardships and a reminder to all of us that there is always support no matter what circumstances which you may face.

In this episode of the OSCA Podcast, Lachie Strathmore (‘15) and Scott Montgomery (’85) speak with Jhdara Jones (‘16).
Since finishing school in 2016, Jhdara has worked across various roles in social procurement and Indigenous affairs for the Metro Tunnel Project, the Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce, the First Peoples Assembly of Victoria and at Metro Trains.
Jhdara reflects on his time at Scotch as an Indigenous student and shares his pathway to where he is today, emphasising that the University pathway is not for everyone and reinforcing the strength in non-traditional pathways to the workforce. Across his career so far, Jhdara reflects on his organic movement into career pathways involving Indigenous affairs, the skills he has acquired throughout this journey and how his heritage has played an important role in who he is today.

In this episode of the OSCA Podcast, Lachie Strathmore (‘15) and Scott Montgomery (’85) speak with Scotch’s ninth Principal, Tom Batty, who departs Scotch after 14 years of dedicated service.
In this episode Tom tells the story of how he came to be at Scotch and his first impressions of the school when he arrived in 2008. He provides insight into his day-to-day activities as Principal, from leading a staff of over 300 to working with the School Council, regulators and stakeholders in developing an educational vision for Scotch. Tom reflects on the greatest challenges he has faced as Principal and shares what he believes makes Scotch successful. In what is Tom’s final interview as Principal, this is an episode not to be missed!

In this episode of the OSCA Podcast, Lachie Strathmore (‘15) speaks with Charlie Howcroft (’15) and Tom Sutherland (’16) about their experience setting up a small business.
In mid-2020, Charlie and Tom alongside their business partner Freddie Young set up their own business, Good One Creative, specialising in brand development, content production and creative communication. Charlie and Tom speak with Lachie about the challenges of setting up a small business from building a brand identity, finding an office space, managing finances and working with clients to build strong business relationships.
Both boys also reflect on their pathway to small business ownership, discussing how despite not having a clear vision of where they wanted to go following school, over time, their collective experiences led them to the creation of Good One.

Rather than discussing his personal political views, Charles instead explains how he has navigated the political landscape - the people he’s worked with, the appeal of getting into politics, the day-to-day tasks one might have in the party.
From his exposure to politics growing up, to his studies at University, and his real life experience in the political world in Victoria, Charles provides some incredible insights into world of politics.

James Rook ('15) has been heavily involved in rowing, having recently competed in the Tokyo Olympics as the Cox of the Australian Women’s VIII. In this episode, we explore James’ journey from the 3rd VIII at Scotch to representing Australia at the Olympics, and becoming the first male to cox the Australian Women’s VIII. We hear from James about the transition to elite level rowing, the impact of COVID-19 on his Olympic preparation, and his experiences from Tokyo. Ben Strathmore ('13) attended Harvard University for 4 years after finishing school, and he currently lives in Los Angeles producing music under the name 'Strath.' In this episode, we talk about the decision to move to America, the opportunities and vibe in Los Angeles, the day-to-day life of a music career, earning income, and a whole lot more. Fraser Sutherland (‘17) spent a gap year as a teaching assistant at Tiwi College in the Northern Territory. Charlie Hocking (‘18) is studying Commerce at Melbourne University, and spent his first 2 years of uni living on campus at Queens College. In this episode, we discuss what life at college looks like - the application process, the day to day lifestyle and the activities and support offered. Charlie is also a huge mental health advocate, and we cover some of the initiatives he has launched, and how to promote active and positive mental health.
