What if the key to unlocking your true potential lies in embracing your faith more openly and accepting help from others? Join me, Kristi Falany, as I share the profound insights gained from a recent transformative women's retreat. From nostalgic camp experiences to powerful epiphanies, I'll discuss how acknowledging my tendency to "hide in plain sight" regarding my Christian faith has not only changed my perspective but also enriched my coaching practice. This realization underlines the importance of making our clients feel safe and understood in their spiritual journeys, and how overcoming fear-based decisions is crucial for personal growth.

In the second part of our episode, we'll explore the humbling lessons learned from my recovery experience after foot surgery. Being surrounded by 60 incredible women at the retreat taught me the value of asking for and receiving help, challenging my ingrained belief in self-reliance. Reflecting on John Rohn's idea that we are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with, we'll dive into the importance of curating a supportive inner circle. Different types of friendships, the necessity of setting boundaries, and the dynamics of each relationship will be discussed to help you foster a positive and supportive environment for your personal growth. Have you ever wondered why one mean comment can stick in your head for days and make you feel really bad? Let's go on a journey together with me, Kristi Ballard Falany, to figure out why criticism can hurt so much.

On this week's podcast, we'll talk about how feeling ashamed or hearing unkind words when we were young can make us react strongly to criticism as adults. We'll learn about the hidden patterns in our brains that control how we feel, and we'll find ways to change those patterns to make ourselves stronger and happier.

Now, let me tell you about something exciting! It's called a 90-day planner, and it's helped a lot of people I've worked with. This planner isn't just for organizing your life; it's also for making your relationships better and helping you feel more excited about life. In this talk, we'll see how using this planner every day can make you feel more positive and help you discover new things about yourself. Hey there! On this episode I'm here to help you see how powerful your voice can be! Right now, I'm getting ready for a fun cruise, and I want it to be super relaxing. When we say positive things out loud, it's like we're telling our brains to look for good stuff. Instead of feeling down, we can lift ourselves up with our words.

We can learn a lot from a saying in the Bible, Philippians 4:8. It tells us to focus on the good things about ourselves. We can use positive words to make our dreams come true, no matter where we are in life.

The words we use are really powerful. They don't just affect how we feel now; they also shape our future. I'll show you how saying simple "I am" statements can help you grow and find new passions. I want to invite you to a special call where we can talk about the plan for your future and how I can help you create what you want in your life starting with the sentences you speak to yourself.

I'm excited to work with you on this journey. If you're interested in using positive self-talk to change your life, visit Kristifalanycoaching.com. We can make a plan together to make your dreams come true.

This is especially for women in their middle years who want to feel passionate and purposeful again. I want to work with you personally to help you use your imagination and dreams to create an amazing future. If you share this with friends who might be feeling lost, it could give them hope and direction too.

Welcome to 2024.

I offered a workshop the last Saturday of 2023 designed to help women decide for themselves their desires for the new year. We followed a specific framework to help them bring to the forefront all that they hoped for in 2024.

Of course our brains are going to offer up all the reasons why achieving our dreams will be hard. That is exactly why I shared with them my failproof strategy to create new beliefs around achieving hard things.

Let this year be the year you Level Up your life. For the replay of the workshop simply email me with "Level Up" and I will share with you both the workshop video and the workbook.

Have you ever felt really confused about what to do in life? Well, at 42, I felt that way too. Hi, I'm Kristi Ballard Falany, and I want to tell you about my journey through a tough time when my parents decided not to be married anymore. It was a bit like the movie "It's Complicated" with Meryl Streep. In the first part of our talk, we'll go through the ups and downs of finding hope and starting a new life. We'll also talk about how things changed with my kids and how having someone to help, like a coach, made a big difference.

But the story doesn't stop there! Making your life better often begins with changing how you think about things. In the second part, I'll talk about this thing called a "mindset." As a coach, I've seen how important it is. I want to help you have a better, more exciting life. We'll chat about getting rid of old ways of thinking, and I'll tell you about a fun quiz on my website that can help you see how you think. Listen in on this special episode I recorded with my own coach Dave Moreno. Together we talk about how lack trust was keeping me from what I truly wanted in my life.

Before I started working with my coach, I really didn't know how big of a role lack of trust was playing in my life. I thought it just extended to personal relationships until I learned I wasn't even trusting myself.

We must first build the trust in ourselves to be able to extend it to others, to our businesses and to how we show up in the world.

But there's power in vulnerability and connection, and these can be our anchors in the storm, offering healing and a fresh viewpoint.

Have you ever found yourself starting over in the middle of your life, after a major change like divorce or an empty nest? That's where I was at 42, and it led me to become a certified trauma-informed life coach dedicated to helping other women navigate similar challenges. In this episode, I'm  exploring the concept of renewal and how to overcome resistance to change as we journey together toward creating a life we truly love.

I share my own experiences with renewing my sense of purpose, creating autonomy in my life, and helping other women do the same. I discuss the importance of identifying your "why" in order to take action, and the three areas in my life that I'm focusing on for renewal: my relationship with my husband, the growth of my business, and my relationship with myself. I also address the role of pride in resistance and the value of reaching out for help when needed. So, let's embark on this journey of renewal together and make our lives truly exceptional!

There is a reason you are already not choosing to make things better in your life.

It's called resistance.

There are a few different ways that resistance can show up. When we allow the patterns of resistance to exist, we are blocking ourselves from creating the lives we actually want.

We are blocking ourselves from better relationships with others and ourselves.

In this episode, I'm giving two examples of why we choose to resist a renewal.

Often, our fears lead back to "I'm not enough". And that is what holds us back from the community we want to be in.

I have worn my independence like a badge of honor, but when we think about quality of life, it always boils down to who we are doing life with that truly matters.

I totally get when your brain says “ I wish they cared about me as much as I care about them.”

This type of mindset happens at mid life, when we are still parenting as if we have control over what our adult children do or don’t do.

So you don’t answer messages, or you sit in silence protest over some thing they did or didn’t do that you don’t agree with.

And then, when you’re ready to return to your loving self, you re-engage.

**This completely breaks down their trust in you. If they never know which person they are going to get.

Are you ready to make a shift in your "Midlife Mindset"?

In this episode, I give you actionable strategies you can try today.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Kara Hackleman, the host of Concierge Weight Loss podcast.

We talked about relationships, creating your identity in midlife, and even weight loss.

When she asked me what I was passionate about, I explained that my passion was in helping midlife women live there best lives for the second half of life.

The biggest sentences that cause us pain at midlife are:

  • I've taken care of everyone all my life. When will it be my turn?
  • Not knowing what is next at midlife. Are the best years behind me?
  • Unhappy and you just don't know why.

These are all part  of the "Midlife Mindset" that holds us back from living our best lives.

Because I am so passionate about helping "Midlife Women" shift their mindset around these areas, I have created a quiz to help them identify the type of mindset that is hold them back.

Motivation can look different for everyone.

There is a certain feeling that I get when I step up to the start line at every race.
Then 10X that feeling as the sense of accomplishment sets in when I cross the finish line.

This is what motivates me to run.

I am often asked "How do I stay so motivated?"

"I don't know" is a very common answer that midlife women give me when I ask them what they are passionate about.

I get it. You've raised your kids, done the career thing and basically kept the household running to get to this point of......"What Now".

Your biggest source of pain is the lies that your brain keeps bringing up.

This may look like something someone said to you long ago. Maybe you believed it then, and you've taken it on as part of your identity.

"You should be ashamed of yourself." That is my lie from way back as an 8 year old.  I didn't know that believing that was a choice, so it became part of who I was.

Here is how it continued to show up in my life.

I was ashamed of my appearance.
I was ashamed of who I was.
I was ashamed of what I did to deserve the title.

Our brains were wired to connect with each other and to interact in groups.

A Harvard study of Adult Development that has spanned over 3 decades has found that the function of your brain as well as your physical health depend greatly on your connections in your relationships.

One of the most painful questions you can ask yourself is "How did I get here?"

In this episode I explore the 3 answers to that question. Our behaviors are driven by our emotions. And because we are still carrying around a primitive, our emotions are often negative and on high alert for harm. We also don't realize that we have a set of habits that are keeping us from what we truly want our lives to be. And the last reason of how you got to where you are is not advocating for yourself. Not listening to your own inner wisdom and following through with it.

What stories have you been telling yourself about money?

I know mine were pretty sucky.
😱 I'm the spender in this relationship.
😱 I'm not good with money.
😱 That's how our parents did it.

This type of relationship lead to a ton of fear of never having enough money. It also lead to behaviors that continuously proved there was never enough money.

You don't have to have this type of relationship with money. After reading the book, The Psychology of Money, I quickly learned how to turn my ugly thoughts about money into curiosity about my behaviors with money.

Changing my behaviors is transforming my thoughts of how to live an abundant life with the money that I have.

That is ultimate happiness creation!

In this episode, she shares the struggles with moving and finding new circles, and she shares the unique ways that she has tried to find friend connections.

Assuming that your children are going to do something, Mom, because YOU ask is only setting yourself up for heartache.

When we assume, we are telling our brain we believe it to be true. We tell ourselves that we know something will happen, but here is what we don't consider.

💎Other people have agency of what they want to do, or what they feel is in alignment for themselves.
💎It is actually pretty healthy for them to decide for themselves when they don't want to do something.
💎It does not mean that they don't love and respect your wishes.

Rather than assuming things about your adult children try having an open line of communication. Provide for them a safe space free from guilt and shame.

This will alleviate a ton a heartache on both sides. They don't want to hurt you, but they do want to honor their wants, needs and desires.

It is becoming increasingly clear that at midlife besides the big M, our biggest changes are occurring within our relationships.

These women want more connection with their spouse especially those who are empty nesters or getting ready to experience empty nest. I’m hearing from a lot of my clients it feels like we just don’t really know each other any more or we make really good roommates.

The same type of connection they are seeking is with their adult children. Often in this season of our lives, we didn't really anticipate how much our relationship with our kids was going to change once they left the nest.

And last, a lot of my clients are experiencing true loneliness and are struggling with how to create friendships.

I am prepared to support me clients in all of these aspects. I am a huge advocate for human connection. I am firmly rooted in the belief that we were not meant to do life alone.

Self help books is where I started on my journey to creating a life I love and want to live. But I didn't stop there. The information in the books were valuable, but I noticed that I wasn't consistent with following all of the advice and the concepts sometimes just didn't stick.

That is why having a coach was so valuable. I didn't know that I could change old beliefs. I didn't know that the same crappy stories I was telling myself was holding me back. It's no wonder I couldn't just implement what the books told me.

Listen in to see how this works.

Here is the intentional model I discuss in this episode:

Circumstance: changes- rash, unexpected flow, career move

Result I want: I am embracing that these changes are happening for me and not against me

Thought: Natural life changes are not harmful to my happiness

Feeling: hopeful

Actions: I’m not allowing worry about what the future holds, I continue to work towards helping women through my coaching practices, I continue to create content for you and my clients that I know will help you to navigate the circumstances of your midlife, I reach out for help from my doctor over this fluke mother nature is tossing me, I reach out to my amazing network of friends who have gone through menopause before me, the allergies- continue the treatment my doctor has given me and not let my brain make it a problem, and just continue to tell my brain these are natural changes

Don't leave your brain unsupervised. When you are not questioning the thoughts you are thinking, the feelings you are creating for yourself are probably less than ideal.

The model can be a little complicated to understand when first presented with the idea that it is our thoughts that create our feelings. My coach broke it down for me in a super simple way. Courtesy of Dave Moreno............I am sharing with you this super simple way.

**Do you struggle with not liking the women looking back at you in the mirror? Do you wish that she were different. Ladies, I promise you, I did for such a long time. I did until it was just too exhausting. And when I finally discovered that all of my happiness surrounded my acceptance of myself, is when I decided for the last time that I am truly worthy. You see it has taken me years to understand that how I feel about myself, the way I treat myself and how I talk to myself, is a direct reflection of how I will show up to the world.

So when you say ugly things about yourself out loud to a group of other women, I can only imagine what you say about you in your head.**

Too often we create a ton of undue drama for ourselves by saying "yes" when we really want to say "no". You do not have to listen to all of the objections that your brain gives you. You do not have to feel the regret and discomfort that your brain is going to tell you may happen if you say no.

It is totally ok to say no. In fact, it is an act of self love and self care.

I was listening to a group of women who are devote in their prayer life. This is such an amazing thing of course, you prayers are a huge way to connect with Christ as he wants you to communicate with him just as you would your birth given mother and father. But here is what I have noticed is missing from your prayer life and your relationship with Christ. You want God to answer your prayers on your terms based on the stories that are in your thoughts and beliefs, but what if what you are thinking is not true? What if it is in fact a story that you have been telling yourself for so long that you do believe it to be true?

You may look completely different, you may think completely different, but to your core you are that same soul………….you still have that 8 year old human inside of you and at 80 you will too.So why not let your past teach you about who you are today and let who you are and want to be guide you into an amazing well lived life so that when your 80 you look back with admiration at what you accomplished.

The problem with being a past focused thinker is that you block your brain from creating the future you want for yourself. Past focused thinking looks like regret from missed opportunities, not taking action when you thought you should even pain from lost relationships. Your brain will use these all against you as evidence and keep you stagnant.
