There are many ways to ease the stressful times experienced when raising a family, but one of the most important ways to manage a household is the introduction of structure. Structure in the home is created by consistent routines and rules. The key to keeping kids safe and parents sane is structure in the home. Creating a home life that values structure leads to more freedom for everyone, not less. Though structure may vary from family to family, everyone needs it at every phase of life. This episode explores how best to design systems in the home to the benefit of everyone.

Quality time spent together helps a couple to express love and affection with undivided attention. When it comes to quality time, it's not about the amount of time you spend together but instead the quality of your interactions that count. And with so much going on in your life, carving out a few minutes for a meaningful and uninterrupted conversation can be a wonderful way to show the person you love that you really care.

This episode explores some important facts to understand about conflict in marriage and effective ways to handle it. Conflict is the common denominator of all human interactions. Conflict is a marital reality where there is disharmony. It emerges when couples compete over perceived or actual goals, values, or interests. It occurs when couples confront each other with opposing actions and counteractions. It is an indicator that something is changing, has changed, or needs to change.

When couples come together to "blend" or create stepfamilies, things rarely progress smoothly. Some children may resist changes, while parents can become frustrated when the new family doesn't function like their previous family. Changes to family structure require adjustment time for everyone involved. In this episode, we help blended families work out their growing pains and live together successfully.

Marriage is a promise of love, companionship, respect, and friendship. But if we are not careful, we may forget to give our spouses the appreciation they deserve. The deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated. Appreciation is the binding factor of every successful relationship. A successful marriage is a product of a lot of positive things happening at the same time, and showing appreciation is one of the most important. A spouse who feels appreciated and valued is likely to engage in more physical intimacy and communicate even more. When there is a prevailing atmosphere of praise, the marriage grows.

Forgiveness is an essential component of successful romantic relationships. In fact, the capacity to seek and grant forgiveness is one of the most significant factors contributing to marital satisfaction and a lifetime of love. Forgiving yourself and others is about being willing to acknowledge that you are capable of being wounded. Nothing destroys a relationship faster than lack of forgiveness. If one person is holding onto a hurt or wrong, then it impacts the relationship on every level. Forgiveness can make a relationship even stronger. When you forgive someone for hurting you, it shows you care more about that person and your relationship than getting what you deserve. It shows that you recognize the person is more than just the wrong they did. A relationship based on forgiveness and grace is much stronger than one based on being right and getting what you deserve.

The foundation of a good marriage is love and respect. Men and women are wired differently and thus have differing needs. While we all need love and respect, men and women each distinctively need more of one than the other. Women by nature want to know that their husbands love and adore them. Men by nature desire to know that their wives respect and honor them. And while we each need to give and receive both love and respect, expressing love is an essential focus for a husband, and demonstrating respect is a necessary focus for a wife. Failing to understand the importance of these essentials can leave a couple frustrated and unhappy. When both partners even attempt to meet these needs, the marriage has an opportunity to flourish.
