Beauties Sports is dedicated to the promotion and growth of Women's Sports! Our goal is to keep you up to date, entertained and engaged in the exciting world of Women's sports. Episodes include everything from engaging interviews with past and present athletes, coaches and a variety of industry experts to weekly sports banter and highlights with hosts, Addie and Cowie. Weekly episodes are released every Tuesday, bonus episodes will be made available as the need fits, and an additional segment of “Beers with Beauties” will give us space to address the tough conversations that need a light shone on them!
What a ride! A ride that wouldn't have been possible without the support of listeners like you. We couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to bring women's sports to your ears every week, for the last 70 weeks! It's been an honour to get to know and share the stories of our guests, ourselves and the incredible people that are growing women's sports across the board, regardless of which sport you look at.
As we say in this episode, "everything needs to breathe". So we are closing out Season 1 of the Beauties Sports Podcast to do just that. To refresh and refocus on what Season 2 will bring. The momentum surrounding women's sports and women in sport is palpable, it's visible and we believe we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Keep tuning in while we are away! Keep being a fan and supporting the growth of women's athletics. We certainly know we will be doing the same. And we look forward to bringing more content to your ears soon.

Where do we even start..
March is one of the best months for sports! There is so much going on that the hardest part of it all is how do we keep up. There is March Madness, Frozen Four for Womens hockey, PHF Playoffs, PWHPA championship and that's just the start.
PWHPA end their season with a major win from Team Harvey's to take it all after an amazing season with more showcases than than last season.
PHF is also going to be coming to a close this month as they are headed to the semi finals and will end their season in Arizona for their championship game.
March isn't complete without the madness basketball. All we have to say is get those brackets filled out as it is going to be a wild time in Dallas.
There is so much happening this month! It is going to be hard to keep up with all of it at the Beauties Sports Desk and we would love for you to join us!

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie sits down with Anastasia Bucsis.
This episode is the definition of a beauty sports experience. Anastasia just so happened to be in Winnipeg as the key note speaker at the leadHERship series Finish Line event sponsored by Bison Transport.
On top of her already crazy busy schedule Anastasia made time to come and sit with me at the Beauties Sports desk!
Anastasia's career as a 2x olympian and now working in front of the camera with CBC her journey through sports is one for the books. From talking very open about the golden era of speed skating she grew up in but also struggling with mental health and accepting herself as and athlete and a human.
Her story is exciting, impactful and relatable to many past and current athletes.
THANK YOU Anastasia for coming on a little Winnipeg adventure and there is absolutely no doubt that for all you have done in the sports world, you absolutely are on the right side of history!

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with Paige Smith.
In this conversation we are able to touch on many different topics! Paige was not only a college level softball player, is now a high performance coach but was also on the National team for slo-pitch.
Growing up in Greta, Manitoba Paige started her whole softball journey being coached by her mom and was hooked! Playing all over the province and then making it to nationals, it was an easy decision to continue on and play Softball at the college level.
From there Paige was knew that Softball was something that she wanted to stick with not only as a player but as a coach. This lead her into the competitive world of Slo-Pitch and was able to represent Team Canada.
It was very interesting learning about all the differences about competitive slo-pitch compared to what most of the world believes to be true about it! All bases are live, the pitches need to be at a certain hight and if you are not there to win..you will lose!
Paige is now passing on everything she has learned through her Softball/Slo-pitch career to the younger generation. Working with athletes in this province to continue to grow and develop the amazing sport of Softball!

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with Jocelyn Amos.
London Devilettes have nothing short of an incredible roster and the girl leading them through it all is Jocelyn Amos.
Captain of Team Canada U18s, Team Ontario, London Devilettes and Ohio State Buckeyes Commit there is a certain level of dedication to make all of this work and still be at the top of your game! Jocelyn does it all seamlessly and has the best time doing it!
At 17 years old Jocelyn has already travelled the world playing the sport she loves and has achieved things that hockey players can only dream of. 2x Gold medalist to start it off and rounding it out with a commitment to the strongest team in the NCAA, Ohio State.
Jocelyn is also competing in the Canada Winter Games hosted in PEI coming up at the end of the February as she will be a member of Team Ontario.
The future is as bright as it has ever been for female hockey and Beauties Sports can not wait to watch you throughout your career.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with Alicia Souvney, member of the Canadian Women's Para Ice Hockey Team.
Alicia has been able to turn tragedy into triumph. After suffering life threatening injuries, and losing her leg as a result, Alicia has battled through adversity to return to sport and now represents our country on the National Para Ice Hockey Team.
One of the most significant contributions to Alicia's recovery came in the form of blood donations. The hockey community that she and her partner Matt are involved in rallied around them in their greatest time of need. Today's podcast is really about celebrating the community that has been fostered around Alicia, and continuing to grow the support of blood donations throughout our hockey community and greater sports community as a whole.
Alicia is the first para ice hockey athlete to be a hockey gives blood ambassador. So today, we challenge you the listener to take part in this great initiative. You too can save a life, and your non-monetary donation of blood goes further than you might believe. This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) at the Can West Military Hockey Championships.
We had Navigation techs, a trumpet player, Generator tech, nurses and more all together in one place to play some hockey!!
Beauties Sports had the pleasure of sitting down with seven amazing Women in the CAF. Each one of them there had different stories and paths for getting into the military but there was one consistent message that came from all these women, there is no rank in sports.
This unique opportunity through sports allow women from all over to come together regardless of job, ranking and posting to compete against each other.
We are excited for you to listen to each individual story and the incredible opportunities you can have within a life in the Military. Sports being one of the driving factors for these women to continue a healthy and active lifestyle not only throughout work but throughout their lives.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with Emma Parker from Wesmen Volleyball.
Emma Parker was an absolute blast to have at the Beauties Sports desk. Once again Addie and Cowie got the pleasure of getting to talk with an athlete that absolutely loves getting to do what they do!
Emma plays for the U of W Wesmen and what we found out in the beginning of the episode that this was actually a family affair. Her parents were both a part of the Wesmen family so this was a no brainer about where she was going to take her athletic career.
2x MVP and Female athletes of the year, Emma has made a tremendous impact on the Wesmen organization! Emma is going to take Volleyball as far as she can by heading overseas and playing professional volleyball. This is a great conversation for us all to have when is comes to Womens sports is that their is so much opportunity out there!

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie sit down with Sam Onyebuchi of Bisons Womens Basketball!
This was such a great episode as we were able to cover a bunch of different topics all surrounding an athlete's mindset and what it takes to be successful at the university level but also what it means to come back from injury.
Sam tore her ACL and had to sit out of a year of competition with the Bisons but was still an active member of the team throughout her journey. She talks about the highs and low throughout a year of recovery.
Being a competitor at her core, Sam had to be surrounded by her team but had her own personal workout plan, criteria she had to meet and strength requirements before she was able to come back and step on the court.
Sam talks about the main thing to being a solid foundation athlete and going through any type of adversity is you have to have an unshakable mindset. You need to be committed to your own plan and while remembering you are never alone with all the support staff, teammates and coaches.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie is back with the Bison Beauties!
What do you do when you have an alumni, current goalie, forward and defence at the sports desk, you drink!
Throughout this episode we go one by one through each of their hockey careers as all these women come from different provinces and different teams but have all ended up in the Bison Locker Room.
We talk about a lot of different things in the episode! We get deep with what it takes to be a high level athlete, what it takes to stay there and be a good team-mate and person at the core of it all.
This episode we also touch on where hockey can continue to take them after they are done their Bison careers. Which we all agreed is a conversation that needs to happen more amount the hockey community in the effort to continually push the growth of the sport.
This was a full circle moment for Addie being an alumni and getting the opportunity to bring the young bucks on the show! It is time for us to work together and pack the Flem so more young women can see themselves in a Bison jersey one day and beyond.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie are back at the Beauties Sports Desk with #52 of the National Women's Ringette Team Brett Van Nieuw Amerongen.
Brett is an absolute BEAUTY! Playing Ringette her whole life Brett has gone from little small town ringette player to playing on the international stage.
There are so many questions and comments about this whole conversation about hockey vs ringette. Seems like both sides of the isle are not willing to give in when it comes to which sport is better!
This conversation lets Addie and Cowie, two hockey people, dive into the world of Ringette. Learn more about the rules, progression for their athletes and ultimately everything because they knew nothing.
With being one our more asked for podcasts, Brett shines a light on how much she loves this sport and how many other Women have done the same throughout their lifetime.

With Womens World Hockey Championship kicking off in 5 days, the big question that we talk about at the Beauties Sports desk is why women are not included at the World Juniors Tournament?
They are 1 week separating the two, people love to watch hockey during this time of year and it would have so many benefits in growing the female side of hockey. It is a very interesting conversation which there might be harder than we think to pull it off but...
there is no question that the positives out weigh the negatives...
We also recap the top earning women of 2022 and some big awards that have been won by some legendary women in this Country.
Marie Philip Poulin walks away with two of the highest awards you can receive in Canada. The Northern Star and the Canadian Press Female Athlete of the Year.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie are back at the Beauties Sports Desk with their friend Tyler West.
Tyler is a Father of 4, Husband and active member of the Canadian Military. Not only has his family lived in almost every province but also has done 3 tours overseas for our country.
With having 3 girls and 1 boy all actively in sports, Tylers perspective on sports is a unique one. Starting their sports journey in Quebec, his oldest daughter got to feel the effects of what it was like having a female coach from a young age!
This story tied in with many other experiences while travelling and training across our amazing country has given a unique perspective for the opportunities given to players in more urban areas over rural.
Also, the community aspect of this conversation is truly what the sports community is all about. Being able to rely on family and friends to help with everything from carpool to landscaping is the heartbeat of the sports community. Streaming games to Africa to make sure Tyler is able to watch his kids play in real time, travelling with friends on long distance trip and countless other stories of amazing people coming together in the name of sports.

This week at Beauties Sports, Addie and Cowie are back at the Beauties Sports Desk talking everything in Women's Sports.
There have been some incredible announcements in the world of Womens sports after the last week including the increased salary cap in the PHF.
The PHF has increased their salary cap to 1,500,000 for the 2023/24 season. This is going to insure that all women are now going to be paid a living wage throughout the season to be able to pursue hockey as a full time job. This is an incredible step for Womens hockey as it created stability and structure for their players.
PWHPA also finished up a showcase in Ottawa where they showcased a combination of different events including games, 3v3 and a skills competition. At the Beauties Sports desk we break down the skills competition to showcase the level that these women are performing at. It is truly amazing!
Women's D1 Volleyball was an absolute spectacle with the star studded event that it was. These women were not only playing in front of thousands of people, they were greeted by thousands of fans prior to the game and the crazy amount of people watching. This was an amazing event to show the support behind Womens sports.
Which spurs the conversation of the average attendance across all major Womens sports and it is amazing to see the support of the Womens game across all leagues. Addie and Cowie discuss the next steps that they feel are needed to get Womens sports to the next level!

In this episode of Beauties Sports, Cowie shares a personal story of her diagnosis with an autoimmune disease as a young child and how sports played a role in her navigation of life with a chronic illness.

Beauties Sports Desk wanted to do another episode bringing everyone up to speed on everything that is happening in Women's Sports.
WNBA may be in its off season but the NCAA and USPORT Women's Basketball is in full swing. Addie and Cowie talk about the tight competition and the high level these women are playing at when Notre Dame is beating UCONN by 12 points. This season is going to be an amazing season.
PWHPA is heading off to Ottawa in their 4th showcase of the year. This Showcase is special as it is going to also include a skills competition and 3 v 3 as an extra for the fans. A skills competition has never happened like this before where these women are going to go head to head and show their skills against the best in the world.
PHF is also heading into week 4 of their season and with no surprise the Boston Pride are off to an incredible start! With questions still surrounding why Buffalo and Connecticut have only 5 games combined this season so far?

Addie and Cowie reminisce on the incredible year of launching Beauties Sports, everything that has happened throughout the year. Highs and Lows, the amazing guests we have had on and all the experiences along the way!
Playing a game throughout the episode to showcase the amazing women involved with sport across the board. Rules are simple, pick a hockey starting line up but needs to be across all different sports and once you use a sport you can no long use it. Also, 2 of your players need to be retired! This was so fun!

In this episode of the Beauties Sports podcast, Cowie hangs out with Tori Spencer, who joins the podcast from her home in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Tori’s love of hockey started at a young age and her continued love of the sport has helped fuel her passion to continue to give back to the game as a coach. When work relocated Tori and her partner Mike to Yellowknife, sports was her vehicle to begin creating a new community and making new friends for herself. She also immediately became a key part of the hockey community and was named assistant coach for the 2020 Arctic Winter Games as well as the upcoming 2023 Canada Winter Games which will be held in Charlottetown, PEI.
Hockey in Canada’s north is growing, thanks to the dedication of people like Tori and her coaching counterparts who continue to invest time and energy into the game they love. We look forward to following Team Northwest Territories as they compete at the Canada Winter Games and to remain connected with the coaches and athletes across Canada, the north included.

With announcements coming out from both the PHF and the PWHPA it is hard to deny the fact that a fun exciting hockey season is upon us!
PHF is already into pre season hockey playing Universities and Colleges in surrounding areas. With the announcement of the new franchise in Montreal, the excitement around those players and the hype around their first couple of games is at an all time high. The season is still a month away but training camps and exhibition games are well underway. This year in the PHF is going to be a fun one!
PWHPA releases their rosters and they are anything short of awesome! They consist of a combination of olympians and high level NCAA players. This is exciting for many reason because it is starting to solidify a tiered experience for the leagues but one aspect of this process that Addie and Cowie discuss is how they decided the rosters.
Was it a draft? Was it based on where you live? Was it based on the coaching staff? We would love for the PWHPA to give us a birds eye view into the selection process! Everyone loves a good draft!
Atthaya Thitikul win her second LPGA major in a playoff against Danielle Kang. This thrilling match between the two powerhouses comes nothing short of a spectacular ending in Arkansas. Kang Eagles on the 18th to take the lead and Thitikul fights back to tie, with ultimately taking the win!

It was an absolute pleasure sitting down with Michele to learn more about the world of women's basketball and also learning more about the growth of the sport in our province. “Choose the challenge.
Over the course of my hockey career, it was drive and determination that ultimately got me as far as I did. The will to battle, fight and compete in every moment, no matter the circumstance. In practice, in games, in the gym, even in team building activities, no matter where and no matter what, I competed to win. Why? Because competition is fun and because competing makes you a better teammate.
Each individual player has the power to influence the team in some way. When you skate your fastest, shoot your hardest, and try your very best, you are being a good teammate, a determined competitor and a positive influence on those around you. Giving your best effort will push the limits of not only your own game, but your teammates’ as well and when everyone gets better individually, the team improves as a whole.
Some of the most fun I had as a player was during the games that were fast, hard-fought, gritty battles. When my teammates and I wouldn’t take no for an answer. When we looked around the dressing room and knew without a doubt that we would all do our part to get the win.
But that competitiveness and determination to win doesn’t just happen. It starts in practice and in how you choose to respond to challenging situations against your own teammates, in how you show up every day with a drive to be better than the day/practice/game before.
Picture this: 1v1 drill. Forward vs Defence. You look up and you’re against a teammate that is better than you in some way.
How many times have you tried to trade spots with another teammate in line? To have someone else step outside their comfort zone and push their limit to win that battle?
Don’t worry, I have watched this happen countless times in my career.
Here is something to remember.
When this happens, when you line up against a teammate that may be better, faster, stronger than you, choose the challenge. Choose to keep your eyes forward, your feet planted in position and own the chance to get better.
Because the magic of it all is that, over time, you will improve. You both will. And soon enough that 1v1 will turn into the best vs the best.
And a team that never settles for anything less than the best version of themselves, is unstoppable.
So, no matter what, always choose the challenge.
You’ll thank yourself for it, trust me.
