Skyler Myeres, Signature Manager of UFC Gym Middle East joins TSB to chat on his contribution to the UAE's health and fitness industry. With his experiences and lifestyle as an athlete and coach, he focuses on removing the stigma on how MMA/Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) are violent activities but are sports that condition not only the body but the mind.
Skyler's immersion in combat sports, including a commendable record of 3-1 as a retired MMA fighter and a purple belt in jiu-jitsu under the guidance of Brady Fink, has enriched his expertise and shaped his approach to coaching and leadership.
Currently serving as the Signature Manager ME at UFC Gym, Skyler oversees the training and development of coaching staff across the Middle East, and is committed to help train the UAE's next generation of MMA/BJJ athletes.

Cricket legend Joel Garner joins the list of World Champions chatting to TSB, as he discusses his cricketing legacy, the mights West Indies team of the 80s and the 90s and what to expect from the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Garner, nicknamed "Big Bird" played 58 Tests between 1977 and 87, and picked up 259 wickets at an average of just over 20.
In ODIs, his toe-crushers made him un-hittable in the death overs. He picked up 146 wickets from 98 games, and is the only player with more than 100 wickets to average less than 20. His 5 for 29 in the World Cup final in 1979 against England, the best ever figures in a World Cup final, also included a spell of 5 for 4 which blasted the hosts out of the contest.

asking you to submit a 3-10-minute scripts for a chance to have the film produced.

WTA Tennis star Elena Rybakina chats to TSB short turn-around time from Doha to Dubai, and how the city is preferred by a lot of players for pre-season and leisure.
Rybakina was a 2020 finalist in Dubai, and is now the number 4 seed. She now advances to her second quarterfinal in Dubai.

Social media use has been linked with a decline in mental health, with the Arab Youth Survey 2023 finding that 60 percent of young Arabs thought it was harming their mental well-being.
Just under three-quarters of those surveyed, 74 percent, said they were struggling to disconnect from social media.

Dilip Jain, a finance expert joins TSB to explain the new payment card - 'Jaywan'. The card was launched during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE on Tuesday. Jaywan is built on India’s digital RuPay credit and debit card stack for the UAE market.
The two countries also agreed to link their instant payment platforms – India’s UPI and UAE’s AANI – as this will promote a wider acceptance of credit and debit RuPay cards in the country.
“We are stepping into a new FinTech era with the launch of my UPI RuPay card and your Jaywan card,” Modi said after the launch in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Media One’s famous vertical race - M1 Run is back for its 10th year.
And again, they are partnering with the Al Jalila Foundation (which is also celebrating their 10th anniversary) with 100% of the profits for the M1 Run to be given to the foundation.

Barnaby "Barney" Crompton has been involved in the British and Dubai real estate industry for 24 years.
He moved to Dubai in 2008. Most of his time in Dubai has seen the property expert specialise in Emirates Hills, one of Dubai’s most exclusive areas.

Dwight Yorke is a football legend and an icon of the English Premier League. The Trinidad and Tobagonian former football player had a glittering career at clubs like Aston Villa and went on to win the Treble at Manchester United. His partnership with fellow striker Andy Cole is regarded as one of the great football duos.
Yorke scored 123 goals in the Premier League, a record for a non-European. Between 1988 and 2009, he played for Aston Villa, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Sydney and Sunderland.

Private tuitions have been legalised in the UAE, with authorities announcing a new permit to offer lessons outside educational institutions. Registered teachers, those already holding jobs, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university pupils are among those who can apply for the permit.

This year DP World launched the Jafza Cup presented by We One (cricket) which is the biggest corporate tournament in Dubai’s history with 32 teams competing in 63 matches.
The cup was part of Dubai Fitness Challenge is an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. The challenge sees participants commit to 30 minutes of physical activity daily for 30 days.

Bollywood Actress Zareen Khan is an Indian actress and model with over 15 million followers on Instagram.
Whilst she lives on Dubai, on this recent trip for work to the city, Zareen spoke to Kitch and Neeil about her career.

On TSB, Neeil and Pranav look back at this week's top cricket story, with India announcing its test squad for the tour of West Indies.
The selection has left many confused, including the legend Sunil Gavaskar who said: "Stop playing Ranji Trophy. Say, it's of no use, you just play IPL and think you are good enough for the red-ball game as well."
On the back of Sarfaraz Khan not being picked, Gavaskar questioned the logic behind having the Ranji Trophy if performance in the country's premier domestic tournament is not looked into while picking the Indian red-ball teams instead of taking the players IPL.
Khan amassed 556 runs in six games at an average of 92.66 in the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy.

UAE school students can now choose elective subjects.
For the new academic year onwards, Grade 11 and 12 pupils can pick one from two steams of courses.
Grade 11 and 12 students in public and private schools that follow the curriculum of the Ministry of Education will be allowed to choose elective subjects. The model allows students to shape their own education pathway by picking subjects that suit their abilities and interests.
The ministry said that the decision will apply to Grade 11 in the coming academic year 2023-2024.
Later, starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, Grade 12 will also be included in the model.

On January 22nd, Ty, through no fault of his own, was in a collision with another motorbike on the 311 highway in Dubai. A delivery driver performed an illegal crossing of a motorway slip road to save some time, slipping through a gap in the cones that separate the motorway from the slip road and cutting across the slip road at a right angle. Ty was travelling down the slip road and by the time he noticed the delivery driver, it was too late to avoid the collision.
As well as a broken arm, broken and dislocated ribs and a severe injury to his left heel, Ty was left with a fractured T6 and T7 vertebrae - resulting in complete paralysis from the rib cage down.

The UAE has changed it's visit visa rules: New visa rules came into effect on Tuesday stating that visit visas cannot be renewed without exiting the country.
Now, visitors have been scrambling for tickets to Oman and other neighbouring countries.

It’s very hard to beat the stock or bond markets with any regularity.
Each year, some investors manage to do it, of course, but can they do it consistently? A new study of actively managed mutual funds by S&P Dow Jones Indices asked that question and came up with a startling result. It found that not a single mutual fund — not one — managed to beat its benchmark in either the US stock or bond markets regularly and convincingly over the last five years. Doctors at ADSCC performed the region’s first autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) on a patient with MS earlier this month and the patient has since reported an improvement in her overall condition. The treatment, developed by the ADSCC, aims to ‘reset’ a person’s immune system and can be used for those with relapsing forms of MS.

Changes in the minimum salary requirements have caused a spike in demand for Golden Visa Applications in the UAE.

Ever since the UAE decreased the salary requirement for Golden Visas for skilled professionals, the demand for the long-term residency has skyrocketed. Arabian Business Centre (Amer Centre – Sheikh Zayed Road) in Dubai has been issuing about 30-40 Golden Visas daily since the scheme was expanded back in October.

Gold prices retreated on Monday morning from a three-month peak hit in the previous session, as the dollar and US bond yields rose after a top US central banker warned that the Federal Reserve is not 'softening' the fight against inflation yet.
In the UAE, gold prices fell one dirham per gram at the opening of the markets on the first trading day of the week.

Bitcoin breaks above $20,000, ending two-week slump.

Bitcoin broke above $20,000, ending its longest run below that price level since the token first breached the threshold in late 2020.
The largest cryptocurrency by market value, rose as much as 4.15% to $20,185 Tuesday. The token has traded below $20,000 for nearly three weeks, breaking from the coin's trademark volatility. Other digital assets followed with Ether gaining as much as 11% to trade at $1,505, its highest price this month. And so-called alt-coins like Solana and Dogeoin also advanced.
Despite the gains, Bitcoin still remains in its multi-month price slump as central banks hike interest rates to curb rising inflation. The token has lost close to 60% of its value since the start of the year.

This follows a rise in flu rates in the UAE in recent weeks, with schools in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi recording hundreds of cases of pupils with fever and other symptoms.
Careem have launched a partnership with UNICEF and Kaykroo, to support the flood relief efforts for children and families in Pakistan.

UAE-India airfares see post-Diwali drop, and this could last until early December

Airfares on the UAE-India sector are taking an immediate dip after the Diwali peaks, and look set to remain at these levels until second-half of November or early December. For travel after November 11, return airfares on high frequency routes such as Dubai to Mumbai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai, and Bengaluru are averaging Dh600-Dh800, according to travel aggregator Sky Scanner.
One-way fares to the south Indian city of Kochi are at around Dh300 until November 30, which is among the lowest the route has seen since the post-pandemic travel blitz. However, ticket prices for UAE-bound flights average Dh550 from most Indian cities as winter festivities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah ready for launch in the coming weeks. (This year, there is the added incentive of the FIFA World Cup in Doha, and with stays in the UAE.)

Sweeping changes to labour legislation first announced in November set out that work contracts could not exceed a period of three years.

Dubai Expo City welcomed dozens of visitors on Saturday, with many stepping foot on the site for the first time.
Those who visited Expo 2020 Dubai during its six-month duration said returning to the site stoked fond memories of the world's fair. But for those who missed it, it was a chance to get a feel of the historic event.
While much of the area is still closed until next month's official relaunch, there is plenty on offer for those looking to spend a few hours exploring the site.

Oleg Zaretskiy, chief executive of uSky Transport joined the show to discuss the future of transport in the UAE.
The Ucont system, under development by uSky Transport at the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, is expected to be up and running as a test site by December.
Passenger pods are already in operation at the site’s $14 million uSkyTest and Certification Centre as a proof-of-concept of how the technology works.

Dubai property sales transactions in July highest in the past decade, data shows

Dubai’s real estate market recorded a total of 7,092 sales transactions in July 2022, the highest in nearly a decade, data showed on Thursday. The peak in 2013 stood at 5,024 transactions.
The sales transaction volume was up 63.56 per cent over the year-ago period, and 88.41 per cent higher in terms of value.
The off-plan sales transactions saw the highest transaction volume in July, up 67.13 per cent in terms of volume, and 81.43 per cent in terms of value, compared to the same period last year.
Rentals, too, grew strongly with 42,698 registered leases of which 56.04 per cent were new contracts while 43.96 per cent were renewed, an overall increase of 4.33 per cent over the year-ago period.

Simon joined TSB to discuss Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, who announced the upcoming release of the airline’s first non-fungible token (NFT) collection, ‘EY-ZERO1’.
The utility-driven series features ten highly detailed 3D aircraft models, each one showcasing a unique Etihad Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner livery. A total of 2003 limited-edition collectibles, symbolising the year when Etihad Airways was established.
The collectibles include Etihad’s Manchester City FC and Greenliner - themed aircraft, among others.
New research has shown that some older-style neighbourhoods, such as Al Fahidi in Dubai, which has a higher density of buildings, tend to keep peak temperatures down better than more modern low-rise neighbourhoods, such as Jumeirah in Dubai.
Air temperatures in the country’s more traditional residential neighbourhoods can be 1°C to 2°C lower than those in more modern areas, researchers from Ajman University have found.
“The results reveal that the highest density traditional urban form achieved the best thermal comfort values due to the street geometries and less exposure to solar radiation compared with the other configurations,” the researchers wrote.
There is recognition among some architects and others in the building sector that it is important to find ways to keep buildings cool without using energy, not least because air conditioners are consuming increasing amounts of energy.
Between 1990 and 2016, the quantity of energy used to cool internal spaces in the Middle East increased five-fold, from 25 to 125 terawatt hours of electricity, World Bank figures indicate.
As climate change causes temperatures to rise, and as countries become more affluent, the number of air conditioners globally is forecast to triple to five billion by the middle of this century.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday terminated the mandate of the Committee of Administrator (CoA) to manage the affairs of the All India Football Federation and also postponed the election, earlier scheduled on August 28, to AIFF by one week, which would allow changed electoral college and filing of nominations to comply with new rules.
The bench added that it is passing the order to facilitate revocation of suspension of AIFF by FIFA and holding of the prestigious FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in India. It also allows the participation of Indian players and teams in international events.

Raihan always wanted to take pictures of Dubai, the architecture of the city he grew up in and fell in love with. His inspiration?
None other than Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. “As soon as I saw his page which was filled with Dubai photographs, I felt connected, inspired, and motivated at the same time,” Hamid said in a conversation with City Times.
“I would say I am his biggest fan,” added Raihan, who even has the Crown Prince as his phone wallpaper and hopes to meet him soon.
Once Raihan found his inspiration, a normal day for him would look like this: wake up, grab the camera, and just shoot. But, of course, it was not easy for Raihan to visit the skyscrapers initially.

The new tariff on single-use bags that was introduced in Dubai supermarkets last month has led to a dramatic fall in plastic use among shoppers.
Supermarket chain Spinneys reported a 90 per cent reduction in single-use bags being sold compared with the volume that were given away before the 25 fills ($0.07) charge was brought in on July 1.

The UAE has launched the ‘Summer without Accidents’ road safety campaign drive to reduce fatalities.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the campaign aims to increase safety awareness and practices so the accident death rate does not exceed three deaths per 100,000 people.

Viktorija Aksinova and Ahmed Al Mosa sought to make mental health more inclusive, launching the digital wellness and counselling application 'MindTales' – part of Abu Dhabi's Hub71 ecosystem.
Over the past three years of Covid-19 pandemic, the community's mental health has been put to the test, and the need for an accessible resource has been crucial. According to UN data released last month, nearly one billion people worldwide, including around one in seven teenagers, suffer from some form of mental disorder.
The app offers a variety of self-help tools to improve their mental wellbeing on the go, with the option of personalised counselling. Users can track their mood, manage negative thoughts and see their own progress over time. There are also games and resources researched by scientists.
Users can also choose from a selection of licensed counsellors and psychologists for a digital one-on-one session. The app can be accessed in Arabic, English, Russian and Ukrainian languages.

The Theatre of Digital Art (ToDA) is an exhibition space for digital art and a venue for digital theatre located at Souk Madinat in Jumeirah, Dubai.
ToDA was announced in 2019, providing a 1,800 m2 immersive art space, with surround sound and large projection screens on the ceiling and all the walls.
It opened its doors to the public in 2020. It provides a multimedia and multi-sensory exhibition space.
ToDA exhibits work by digital artists around the world.
