Success is a science but fulfilment is an art. In this episode I share three ways to have fulfilment and growth in your fitness journey. With greater overall fitness, health and wellbeing, you live a better quality of life. I share about The importance of purpose and why it matters to have something bigger than yourself that drives you. I discuss progress, how to measure it and how important it is to your awareness of your potential by seeing how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Along with progress is the process. Embracing the journey is where the glory is. Having a destination point is important but we don't want to delay our happiness by neglecting the journey for some future ideal. Happiness and fulfillment can be obtained now. Finally, for those of faith, put God first. When you do, everything falls in place!

Many people get into fitness for the sake of wanting to look better, learn how to move better, lose some weight or build muscle etc. These are good reasons to start and can be very motivating for a while but they are superficial and will only give us short bursts of motivation. It is the deeper reasoning of why, that will inspire us and give us the drive to persist especially when it gets hard. Our perception and our beliefs shape our behaviour around nutrition and exercise. And those behaviour lead to the results we experience.

In this episode I dive in to the perceived physical, mental and spiritual benefits of consistent and intense fitness training. I share some insights on how to view your fitness journey and how to look at it from a better perspective that gives meaning to why you do what you do. And when you have meaning behind it, it empowers you to better yourself mentally, physically, spiritually.

Is your fitness journey a phase or is it a life long pursuit?

In this episode I share some insights and strategies for helping you develop a long term approach to your fitness training.

I believe that we all have a purpose for pursing our potential and challenging ourselves with physical movement just slightly beyond our current capability. However, training hard and often can become addictive. If you chase that high in order to fulfil you, you may just be heading down the path to burnout and exhaustion. If you have experienced this recently, it may give you clarity on what you do want.

I believe fitness is for everyone and that we can, and should all pursue our ideal version of fitness, for it is then we do it for the right reasons. Falling in love with the process is key for staying in the game long term. So listen up and enjoy this episode along with many more to come!

This is the first episode of my revamped podcast series that is going to be geared towards pursuing your faith and fitness. I believe God has a purpose for pursuing our potential. And when you put God first, everything falls into place.

There must be a reason that drives you to pursue your potential and make the most out of what you've been given. Your awareness of what God has gifted you with makes you want to give it all you've got.

Our gifts are for our good but more importantly, for The good of others. And when we use our gifts the way God intended, we are successful, fulfilled and happy.

I believe we all have a unique mission we are called for, and fitness is a way to bring us into alignment with our mission. Being more fit and physically capable boosts our wellbeing, confidence, and it can also serve as a tool in fulfilling our mission. In other words, fitness is meant for us all and is to be used for our good and for the good of others.

When it comes to your potential, do you think of the possibilities? Often times we only look at the upside of potential and entertaining our ability . But have you ever considered the downside, or dark side to your capabilities? In this episode I go deep into discussing the capabilities of self destruction and how anyone is capable of succumbing to something less than they may have imagined. We have seen it in people we admire and respect for their achievements and success in life. How they manage to lose everything. If it can happen to them, it can happen to you.

We all have good intentions but we do not always follow through. And when we feel bad about ourselves that is where it can lead to a downward spiral. We can start doing unhealthy things inside of our fitness, our nutrition lifestyle, relationships, career or business that we never thought we would succumb to.

Temptation is something that can take us for a ride on the wild side and that is where we fall short or our potential. Because if we are capable of such amazing things in our fitness, our lifestyle, relationships and business, so are we capable of destroying it. it is great to be aware of this so we don't get fixated on one side of our capability. Acknowledge what we are capable of, both good and bad, accept it and be real with yourself. From there, it is a matter of being mindful of your thoughts and actions and what they will amount to in the future.

When someone does you harm or interferes with your personal space, how do you handle it? We have all been there where we have dealt with an offence in the moment, whether it be a verbal of physical confrontation. Whether it be theft, threat of physical harm or what have you. And in that moment is an opportunity for retaliation or escape. To fight or flee. But in my case, I would often 'freeze' And I would beat myself up about it later.

Growing up as a male surrounded by peers, there is the pressure to fight back, to pay evil for evil, to prove your manhood. It is also taught in society as a way to stick up for yourself. In my Christian faith and through Martial Arts, I have learned that it is an immature way to deal with it, just as beating yourself up for not retaliating is. They are both mistakes and I have learned the power of forgiveness but also the contentment and composure in the moment to walk away or to discuss the issue with the other person like a mature adult. Like a true warrior, who doesn't feel the need to fight back or beat themselves up about it later, you are in control of your emotions.

I share about how my quest for Confidence lead me into Martial Arts and Fitness to pursue personal excellence and contentment with myself. I share about haw I have learned about how God takes what the enemy means for evil and he turns it for good. In other words, when we retaliate we are trying to do God's work. God repays evil for evil and does it in a loving way where justice is always to be done. And if you have the courage to let go and forgive your enemies and yourself, you learn that there are no enemies, just people that are hurt and scared like you may be. And the healing that God can do through people is amazing, even you!

In This episode I interview a man by the name of Andrew Logan from Australia. He is a health and wellness enthusiast, practitioner of Crossfit with a sports therapy background, who is also a financial and business expert leading a global health and wellness business in network marketing. Andrew shares about some simple yet valuable mental tools for success in your health, fitness performance, financial, business and relationships. One strategy he shares is the concept of imbalance, an offset strategy to move the needle forward towards your goals.

One takeaway message from this interview is that The pursuit of freedom, (what that means to you) is often a boring, dull journey but one where the results are well worth it. Whether you want to have a summer body, be a better athlete, have a great relationship or financial standing, the process is what counts if you want the results. You don't have to wait until everything is perfect to start. Just starting with the building of the habit and the perfection will take care of itself!

This episode is all about becoming the best version of yourself you can be without getting caught up in trying to be the best amongst others.

When it comes to success in any pursuit, we like to scope out the competition and see what we are up against. And from there, create a game plan and a strategy to become "The" best. In this process, if you are not careful, you can lose your sense of self and miss out on the personal satisfaction from becoming your best. It happens a lot where there's an endeavour like a sport with a competitive element to it. And that competitive atmosphere can be really exciting to engage in. To see how well you stack up with others, however, when you start living so competitively, you compare yourself to others and use it to measure how successful you are. This doesn't just occur in sports or recreations but in life overall.

If you base your success on the typical societal model you may get a boost of comfort and security but you may likely be unfilled. Success is rather quite individual to the person. And when you identify your personal model of success and what it means to you, you can live the way you choose without subordinating to others. You can stay in your lane and be confident with the direction you are going.

After all, it is not about becoming 'The' best, but about becoming 'Your' best, and with that, you may just end up better than the rest even if it wasn't your intention!

When you're a man down, it's time to man up! In this episode I talk about the challenge I was faced with work and how my fitness journey with Crossfit training helped me become stronger and better. When work or life situations get tough, it is easy to see it as an obstacle in your life to your dreams and goals. But with the right attitude and mindset, you see how you can use your current environment, your situation to your advantage. In this case, I took my labor intensive job and turned it into a prime training ground for my fitness pursuit. I take the opportunities to move, lift and carry more and actually enjoy it more. It is because of my desire to fulfil my physical potential that made me see the this situation as something 'on the way' rather than 'in the way'. To sum it up, three great reasons to get fit: To make life easier, to make life more enjoyable and it makes you more useful. And it is not just your physical condition that improves, but your mindset and attitude towards life and how you handle what life has to present to you each day!

In this episode I am interviewing a young lady, Holly Finucan, who has had some psychological battles that lead her down a dark path in her teen years and in her 20's. After being in and out of treatment centres, being put on psychotropics, she had enough and was determined to take back control of her life.

Later on, Holly discovered reiki, an ancient healing art that helps release energy from the body. She talks about how the problem with psychotherapy and mental health specialties only deal with the mind, and according to Holly, trauma is stored in the body. And so with her holistic approach, she helps women bring out their inner child and live their best life through her life coaching program and her reiki practice. Her message is that if we can heal ourselves, we can heal others and when that happens, the world can heal.

Ever wonder where we get inspiration from? It could be a movie of an underdog overcoming adversity and defeating an opponent. For many people, what motivates them are the naysayers who criticize them for their dreams, goals and pursuits. I have carried that mentality for some time and I'm sure you have as well or still do. However, when it comes to proving others wrong, the motive is often times to get other's approval and that is a dangerous motive. For the most part, no one really cares what you do and even if you achieve your dream or goal, those people will have forgotten about it anyways. So your accomplishments will have no real fulfilment behind them.

Rather than prove others wrong, prove yourself wrong. After all, the greatest critics in our lives are those voices inside our heads that like to talk us out of great opportunity, accomplishment. When you say you can't do something for whatever reason you have, prove yourself wrong. Put it to the test. No one cares about your success and fulfillment like you do. I have found that proving yourself wrong is the most inspiring thing you can do. You inspire yourself by proving yourself wrong and when you do, you don't really care what others think of you. Be your own hero in your life and your own coach by encouraging self talk. Empower yourself to step into your potential and overcome your own adversity. And when you do, you will inspire others as well!

We can all identify with our strengths and weaknesses but what is more important is seeing the strength in our weakness and vice versa. In this episode I am discussing the concept of finding strength through the struggle and by how changing your perception of a weakness, you can start to live into your potential. Rather than look at what's wrong with you, look at what's strong about you. And that means actually looking at your weakness from a different angle. There is strength somewhere and it is out of your struggle you find it.

There is also this concept of focusing on your strengths and letting go of your weaknesses. I suggest striving to overcome your weakness instead and explain why in this episode. By becoming aware of what is strong about you while focusing on the areas you may be weaker in and developing them makes you a more well rounded, balanced person. And it is in the process of doing so, you become aware of how strong you are by overcoming. It leads to confidence and mastery over yourself. Embody these two approaches and you will become unstoppable!

In this episode I speak with a friend of mine Cindylou Barclay who shares about her life transformation through her journey with Christ. She shares about her life growing up and the challenges she faced with a sense inferiority. After a destructive marriage in her 40's, she turned to alcohol to cope with her wounds. As a divorced Mother, she was spiraling downhill and her her health was being severely compromised. She was labelled with various mental disorders on top of that and was sent in and out of treatment centres and hospitals.

Despite the life threatening health issues due to the alcohol toxicity, something inside her kept her alive. She knew there was a higher power working through her. She was invited to a Church in Waterloo, ON where discovered Jesus and fell in love. She devoted her life to serving the Lord and developing an intimate relationship with him. Her journey has helped her see her past in fresh eyes and how God was there all along to keep her alive for His purpose for her.

Today, Cindylou is taking more care of her health and honouring the body and following her calling in missions. She has now completed several missions trips in Africa. At the age of 50, she discovered a talent in the arts and has used that to promote God and to troubled youth in the less fortunate areas. She is partnered with SIM Canada, which is a Missions based organization and are recently developing an arts mission program that she is taking part of this year.

Because times are changing and rapidly, to me more adaptable mentally and physically is essential. In this episode I am sharing about how Crossfit will help you develop a level of strength, adaptability and resilience that will benefit your overall success in these changing times. What I have discovered in practicing Crossfit is how the sport makes you more adaptable because of the variety of simple and complex, functional movements. They give you a feeling of self confidence, empowering you to handle any new situation in life. And over time, the workouts in their unique combination creates an incredible physique and one that is very functional for the benefit of everyday life.

Crossfit workouts consist of different movements derived from different sports. Things like heavy compound, olympic style exercise, combined with gymnastics, and track and field that challenge our strength, endurance, metabolic threshold etc. and they are fun. You could be doing power snatches for reps then go immediately to doing sprint intervals with ring dips for example, all for time which triggers different muscle fibre types, creating new muscle development. The workouts are most often held in a gym where the workouts of the day are laid out and lead by a qualified instructor. And unlike planning your workouts and knowing ahead of time what you will be working on, you show up knowing very little of what's in store, so theres little time to prepare. This keeps you on the edge and engaged with the unpredictability.

Crossfit is not all intended to kill you but to drive you beyond what you perceive you can handle. And when you go through it with a group of people who support and challenge you through it, you develop a level of strength, resiliency and most certainly, adaptability, but also community. You feel a sense of belonging, which is most certainly important in today's day in age!

In this episode I am talking about setting the right goals for you and what that means to your overall success and fulfillment. Goals are great and we should be setting them and laying out a sound plan to reach them. However, when it comes to results obtained, many fall far short of reaching their goals. This causes many psychological issues that discourage people from even bothering with goals anymore. It can cause people to resent themselves and destroy their self image. We have to be mindful of the goals we set and have the mental capacity to deal with the process and not just get tied to a result. A fantasy with no strategy is useless and can even be detrimental especially if they are those big bold audacious goals we are taught to set by self proclaimed experts.

A lot of people have experienced the pain of what they perceive as failure in the pursuit of achievement. I lay out several main reasons why we fall short of our goals and why we stop chasing them. We must know what the right goals are for us. They have to mean something and we need a solid reason that aligns with who we are if we are to pursue it. And like anything worthwhile pursuing, goal reaching will come with it's set of challenges that will tempt us to throw in the towel. On, the other hand, there are goals we set that are not worth our time and effort but we like to think they are. All in all, the right goals are great because they cause us to grow and it is in the growing, not the getting that makes the pursuit of something better worthwhile.

Have you ever wondered what do do with your life? Maybe you question it regularity. Maybe you are in a career, a location or a relationship that doesn't light you up. And you are considering your options and exploring new opportunities to live somewhere new, meet someone new, start a new career or business.

Life is full of options and the idea to have the ability to even entertain options or new possibilities is a privilege. But do you also battle with indecision because you are entertaining new options? This is something the common person struggles with. So we have to consider that fact that maybe to have many options is more of a curse than a blessing especially if we don't know how to manage our options. Because when we are full of options it can overwhelm us, create lack of clarity and confusion because we are not focused in on a goal.

But what if you made the decision to go for something more concrete and specific? Decision essentially means death to an option. So what if you stopped entertaining the idea of new options? Afterall, if you are anything like me, you know what it's like to suffer with indecision, overwhelm and confusion. Why not have clarity and a sense of direction? Well you can when you make a decision to go for something. So consider the benefits of have little to no other options, how focused and clear your mind is and how that would feel!

In this episode I am discussing the concept of fuel efficiency as it relates to food as the body's fuel source for energy. For every time we eat is a chance to either energize and nourish us or rob the body of energy and it comes down to how 'efficient' the 'fuel' is. Not all calories are created equal and when it comes to plant based vs animal food, there is often a vast difference between how well the human body can utilize and absorb one or the other.

It is a common myth that we need certain nutrients from animal products especially protein but what it comes down to is the efficiency of the food and protein source for that matter. If a food source requires more energy to break down, it will break us down, making us feel heavy and lethargic. That is why it is critical to eat foods that energize and build us up.

Energy equals more life force and the more nutrient dense calories we consume, the more efficient our bodies run and the better we perform. There is a vast difference between plant and animal foods and how they impact our overall health and energy levels. And if the food is higher in calories, lower in nutritional value, it will always cost us energy. So why not eat for energy in the way mother nature intended?

Often times reason we play small in life is because we are more concerned about pleasing others. Our playing small serves no one so why would we be concerned about pleasing others so much? It is because our stepping out and playing big could cost us our reputation. It could mean loss of acceptance or approval from others. And that, to the Ego, means separation from the tribe, and not being loved.

The greatest fears we have in life is not being loved but also the fear of being ourselves. It sounds cliche to just be yourself but in reality with all the noise and cultural influences, it is hard to know who we really are to begin with.

We are taught about many subjects in educational system growing up except ourselves. And that is a problem when we get into the real world because each of us is unique and are wired in different ways that can be difficult for many to mold into society's model of success (which should not be the intention of the individual). To live successfully and fulfilled is to be free from that mold and move towards our unique calling. And when we get the right education and learn about ourselves, we can start to explore our potential and be our authentic selves and live in alignment with who we are and our mission in life. And in turn, be of greater service to others and actually have others we care about love and respect us. The courage to be ourselves with creative expression creates a ripple effect on others because you let your light shine on them. And if it's too bright for them to handle, don't worry. Love and move forward!

In this episode I am sharing about the benefits of getting outside and immersing yourself in the cold wintery weather. In today's day in age we have the luxury of comfort, like hot water and furnaces to heat our homes.

Most people are afraid of the cold and love to go somewhere warm in the winter. It's a great escape strategy but the buzz is very short lived. Soon you have to come back to reality. And despite these lifestyle comforts, people are still unhappy and feel rather dissatisfied and want more. A counter-intuitive approach like cold exposure may be a great idea.

We heard growing up: "Put your jacket on, don't catch a cold" Well, as a society, we are programmed for instant comfort and pleasure. And the instant gratification mentality can often rob us of joy, wellbeing and happiness. If you are like me, you know the internal benefits of discipline. Doing what is hard so your life will be easy is the philosophy here. When you expose yourself to uncomfortable stimuli for brief periods frequently you will very likely experience more long term happiness, satisfaction and more appreciation for the simple things in life.

All things pleasurable like food, a warm fireplace, netflix or scrolling on the internet become more of a joy and pleasure when you do something like a hard workout, go outside in sub zero temperatures with minimal clothing, cold showers and such. I have found it builds up your immunity and tolerance for harsh environments so you can thrive in the more conventional states and life actually becomes more of a joy and pleasure. It is a no pain, no gain approach in a way, except you don't live in pain, you just deliberately put yourself into a situation of acute stress and build up your mental and physical strength and resiliency. And by doing so you will feel better about yourself and ability to handle life situations better. Because who doesn't want that?

PS: This is not for the faint at heart, only for those who want to try at their own discretion. Be safe but don't be afraid!

When it comes to fitness performance, we experience plateaus especially the more seasoned we get. If you are stuck, it could be a number of things, but in this episode I am sharing some insights that I have learned recently about frequency, intensity and over training.

You have asked yourself perhaps: "Do I back off or push harder?" There's a lot of talk on fitness motivation with youtube and people we look up to talking about it being all about intensity. That if you are stuck and not reaching your physique or performance goals, your not pushing hard enough. I am here to suggest that maybe the opposite is true and that you may be over training. If you feel burnt out and your performance and recovery is diminishing, that is a sign right there.

You might think that frequency couldn't be the solution. After all, you should take a break right? But if you are educated enough on the importance of movement, you know the worst thing you can do is to sit around all day.

There is a fine line, a sweet spot in frequency and intensity where you increase the frequency (if you are not training five to seven days a week already) and actually lowering the intensity. When it comes to muscle building for instance, volume equals gains. And if you train more often through the week, you will likely find your performance and physique improving. This is because of more training time, more repetition and at a level of intensity that is lower so you can train more often. Save your energy for going all out once a week versus every training session and watch what happens to your performance, your physique, your recovery and in the long run, your overall health!

In this episode I am talking about the pursuit of longevity, but not just pursuing it but doing so with a purpose. Many people strive to live long, and not just long, but healthy and happy. It is important that if you plan to live long, you have a plan, and proactively pursue it with daily lifestyle habits like eating and exercise, meditation and the like. These behaviors are common knowledge, yet we know for many, it is not common practice. And even those who practice daily healthy lifestyle habits can still miss out on what it means to truly live a quality, joyful, successful, fulfilling and meaningful life.

This is why knowing tools for longevity is not enough. A purpose for longevity is what we need. If there's no reason for you to pursue longevity, your behaviours towards it won't last long or be effective enough. Now Im not talking about your WHY necessarily in this discussion, rather, a purpose for life, something greater than yourself, something to live for that keeps you engaged. I refer to it as a mission, a calling. It is when you are inspired daily and tuned in on that mission or purpose that gives life meaning. And when you have that purpose, you want to live as long as you can and much more likely to live longer and better. Its the quality of life that counts, not how long you live!. So when it comes down to it, a purpose for longevity makes for a meaningful pursuit of longevity and you can expect to live longer and better with that purpose in mind!~

Dane is full of energy and enthusiasm and his personality will lighten your spirits especially if you feel a little discouraged about the idea of going vegan or if you don't even want to buy into what he shares, I'm sure you'll appreciate and respect him as he is very understanding of other's opinions and choices!

In this episode I discuss the concept of growing pains and the pain of playing small. We experience pain in life, physical, emotional, psychological. However, when it comes to stepping outside of our comfort zones, people back down. We all want to experience comfort and live comfortably. It's just human nature to do so. However, I have learned that our soul yearns for more and it requires getting out of our comfort zones so that we can awaken. Just because you grow up physically doesn't mean you can just stop growing mentally and spiritually. If your basic needs are met and you are satisfied, that can actually be a very dangerous place to be for too long.

The pain of growth is discomforting at times but when you go through with it, you feel fulfilled, accomplished and inspired. And when you continue to play small in life, you pay the price in the long run. Evolution calls for us to grow. This comes from personal development and new experiences that get us out of our comfort zone. Just like building muscle with weight resistance training, you experience temporary pain but you continue with it because you know it leads to growth of new muscle tissue. In the same way, to grow your income, your career, your relationships, it calls for temporary discomfort to evolve to the level. But if you continue to play small, you will pay the price in the long run. Change is hard and being stuck is hard, so choose your hard. One appreciates the other depreciates and you have the choice!

In this episode I break down the difference between motivation and inspiration and why we need to look to inspiration for a sense of drive, wellbeing and fulfillment. Inspiration ignites the soul and keeps the flame burning long after the effects of motivation have worn off. If we are to thrive in 2021 and beyond, we need inspiration. And where do we get it? Well you can be inspired by others but the best way is to inspire yourself. Because when you are intrinsically driven, you will have lasting energy to express that motivation cannot give you. So if you were lacking motivation in 2020, perhaps it's time to shift gears and become inspired. I discuss in more detail in this episode on the importance of inspiration and how to be inspired!

In this episode I am sharing three "A's" that are vital traits that will determine our make or break in 2021, and that is Awareness, Adaptability and Alignment. 2020 was a challenging year for all of us. The coronavirus revealed to us what is truly important and valuable to us by taking away certain rights. But despite, many of us gained new insight, perspective and wisdom (not to mention more free time!) It changed the way we looked at the world, society and people. But overall, we all gained something from it. And it is my firm belief that this pandemic happened for our benefit.

I do not say these things out of ignorance but from the awareness I have gained. I have a new understanding and level of consciousness that has shifted my perspective on the events of 2020 and life overall. I realize that everything happens FOR us, not to us. That is the power of awareness and it doesn't come by accident it is a choice to develop it. And in being proactive in your personal development, you put yourself in a place where you fear less because you are aware of a higher power at work and that God is working together for our good and the good of this world despite how ugly it may seem at times.

We also need to be adaptable. These are changing times and the Universe is not waiting for anyone to adapt. In order to withstand the test of time, it is a matter of being more adaptable to change. Your ability to respond to life and how it unfolds will determine your make or break moving forward. To be strong is not enough, we must adapt and become more resourceful, and when we do, opportunity shows up to better our lives, physically, financially, relationally, everything.

Finally, we need to be Aligned. Alignment is integrity and integrity is integration. To embody what you say with what you do. To determine what you stand for and not back down from. It is about bringing your whole being, physical, mental and spiritual into unison. You set boundaries out of self respect and don't cut corners for quick fixes. You focus on being all about quality, and being truly authentic. When you are in alignment, you are congruent. You live in a state of certainty, clarity and sense of purpose. You live intentionally, not accidentally. It is in alignment that you create a sense of certainty and self control. Afterall, we have no control over the events of the world and we are uncertain of what's going to happen. So to have certainty within, we focus on what we can control, and that is enough to shift our lives radically and make the world a better place together!

On this episode I am going deep into what it means to go inward and explore the depths or our being. We hear all the time that it's the journey that counts, not the destination but more importantly, it's embracing the 'inner' journey that can radically transform our life experience.

How many of us like to travel and make such an effort to make sure we reach our destination? Well in the same, way the inner journey can be just as and more fascinating and worthwhile especially when you understand just how amazing our bodies are and how much distance there really is inside of us. Our systems, organs, glands cover an incredible amount of distance. No human creation compares to God's creation of mankind and so I talk about just what it means to explore ourselves on a spiritual journey and I'm sure you will be left with new insight and perspective on what it means to be human!

I am talking about how to overcome challenges like plateaus, learning to handle your emotions around fitness and the struggles you face that keep you from progressing towards your goals. I share about how to get out of a state of staleness, dormancy in your routine, to shake things up and come alive again. By moving differently, giving yourself a break. To give yourself grace and know when to back off or push harder. Active recovery exercise and even just changing the way you exercise whether it is the intensity, changing up the tempo and throwing a new bag of tricks to your routine is a great way to wake the body up and keep it stimulated for growth and new performance levels.
